I know most of you watching will be level-headed, and most of the responses have been pretty nice and reasonable, so thank you!
A few responses have possibly misconstrued parts of what I'm saying, so I wanted to address some of those criticisms here.
- I don't really care how long it takes for Team Cherry to make this game. I hope they take (or have taken) as long as they need to make Silkong align with their creative vision. I am empathetic towards indie game developers, as I am a hobbyist dev myself. I know how difficult and time consuming game development can be.
- I'm not trying to mislead anyone with the title / thumbnail of the video. I phrased them both as a question since it's still unconfirmed when the game will be released. The video is discussing recent tidbits of 'news' we've been getting and basing a theory on that.
- I didn't articulate my point about AAA games the best. I know there's a LOT of slop that comes out of the AAA industry, but I was trying to use them as an example to show that Silksong's popularity is fairly small overall, so big game companies *may* not see it as a priority. Compare Silksong's anticipation to GTA 6 or Elder Scrolls 6 and it's completely unbalanced. This imbalance may make it harder for Team Cherry to get Silksong into the big showcases/events. Team Cherry, as an indie team, naturally have less marketing opportunities than AAA teams.
Fact: Silksong is getting one day closer to release everyday.

yeah, i feel bad for Team Cherry. It must be A LOT of pressure to have such a big game in their backs. I just wish them the best of luck :)
Especially with the silksong Reddit community… truly a cesspool now (a void ocean, almost)
Selfless & selfish equally, but I hope the guys are completely blind to the fandom and are just picking away at it undisturbed. A percentage of people’s frustration is warranted. A msg every 6-12mo from TC (not release dates, just fan acknowledgement) would have gone a long way. But. Some of the fan reactions border on insanity and I’d hate to think any of the toxicity could be affecting this next game in any way. Expectation is the source of all disappointment. When there was none, TC killed it…several times! Fans need to pretend Silksong doesnt exist & burn our expectations for maximum enjoyment when it finally releases.

Silksong was rated by the ESRB 2 months ago. HK was rated 1 week by the ESRB prior to release. It's more or less the last major step. The game is imminent. If Team Cherry wasn't so silent, I'd almost put money on Silksong news at the Nintendo Direct this June.
I wouldn't say imminent, plenty of games have waits up to a year between rating and release, but it's at least a garentee the game exists and will 99% be out by the end of 2025
Cyberpunk took almost a year to release after being rated by ESRB. Leth also confirmed that they didn't get a real ESRB rating, but rather through some other company that they sent a questionnaire and they converted it into an ESRB rating.

Expectation is the source of all disappointment.
If I learned anything by waiting 10, 16, etc years for new TOOL albums its this:
-high expectations make the artists take longer with product due to not wanting to bomb.
-Long wait times create impatient, entitled, toxic cultures.
-Unreal expectations + time= often inevitable disappointment.
We love Team Cherry. Be cool to them. Go away, live life. When it releases we’ll be surprised & excited…and maybe it’ll be great 😉🤷🏻♂️
Team Cherry did it to themselves. They shouldn't have announced the game with a release window and a trailer when it was nowhere close to ready.
@@gdawgs101 Disagree with the first comment. STRONGLY agree with the second one: too-early promotion and release date, followed by nothing= not cool. Mismanagement of fan expectations for sure!
@@gdawgs101tbh the release window seems to be forced by Xbox just to say everything shown at that conference was going to release in less than 12 months. Team Cherry didn't told anything about it

Their lack of silence for this long should've been an obvious clue for anyone who still respects those devs. Even the memory and nostalgia of the first game is now sullied with their disrespect and how their PR manager a.k.a community manager only when he needs attention didn't bother to dispel rumors and let companies bait the community and then he engaged in said baiting leading up to the xbox showcase. whenever i watch a silksong speculation video these days i‘m always greatful that i‘m not on social media anymore. i fully understand the frustration of fans who have been waiting for 5 years since silksong‘s reveal, however, over the last year or so, since i‘ve been lurking in silksong spaces, the tone has really turned sour. silksong was revealed under extremely specific circumstances that a lot of games don‘t have to deal with. had they just gone silent and announced it a few months before release, we‘d call them grifters because we never got hornet dlc. there is no way they could have made silksong and made the community happy under the circumstances of the hollow knight kickstarter. truth of the matter is is that silksong will release eventually. that’s not copium, that is my amateur opinion based on the fact that it hasn’t been cancelled and team cherry spent years of their lives on this project. that can be this year, next year or in 5 more years. criticizing team cherry‘s silence on the matter is fine but i really don‘t see how a tweet or blog post every couple months that says ‚still working hard on silksong xoxo team cherry‘ changes anything, at least for me. if you feel yourself become really frustrated scrolling reddit, get up, drink some water, maybe go outside and find a patch of grass to touch. or play another indie game. or play hollow knight again. there‘s a lot to do in the world that isn‘t making your mental health worse on reddit or in a youtube comment section. sometimes all it takes to feel better about something, is to not think about it for a few days.
Yeah, there can be a little toxicity, especially on Reddit - I don't really go on there too often anymore. I try with my videos to be as optimisitic as possible and just discuss the games for what they are, without appearing toxic (hopefully). I just like to talk and discuss games I'm excited about - I wouldn't be making videos about Silksong if I wasn't geninuely excited for the game. I'm not really mad at Team Cherry, I'm fine.

if this lack of news is an actual marketing strategy and not just team cherry being completely out of touch then it should be studied in marketing courses all around the world to show how not to market your game
What news do you want? Bug game 2 will have bugs, will feature bosses. Powerups rumoured. We know what the game is, everybody has heard of it and you and everyone else will buy it, how is that poor marketing or being out of touch?
Spoiling and overhyping your community leads to cyberpunk, good studios dont release a product until it's finished and don't spend 3/4 of their budget on flashy ads that just remind you the game is being worked on. Of course it's going to take fuckin forever, quality works of art take time to produce. They have an actual vision and can't farm out all the production to 100 random employees. If you want games that come out fast and spam you with ads go play cod.

@@za_vishmoongarr but not all publicity is good publicity, look at the comunity, other communities and indie devs don't like us because every indie event with any chance of getting silksong has its chat flodded with hk fans that only spam silksong in chat and don't care about other games, the comunity is split in half between a group of people so angry with tc that someone is probably planning a full scale siege of the tc offices just to get a copy of silksong while the other half is so convinced that team cherry can do no wrong that if Ari broke in their house at night and asked for the soul of their first born they would give it to them, are these the people that team cherry wants to generate hype for them? This not even talking about the damage to tc reputation, the next time they announce a game its not gonna generate that much hype because the people know how dogshit they are at communicating
@@bobby6220this is exactly what I’m saying. I don’t want a flashy ad, I don’t even want a date. I just want somebody to tell me that it’s going good or bad, and if it’ll come out within 2 years. Although silence is a good marketing strategy for a game like this, there is a tipping point when it backfires. We have had nothing for so long that people will start to divide between TC haters and mindless fans that think they don’t do anything wrong. Ultimately, they need to worry about how many people are willing to go to extreme lengths to see this project exist, and I refuse to rule out a literal January 6th-like raid of their headquarters if we don’t get word out within 6 months. This is the point of obsession their community has.
Who knows maybe they are adding so much content and polishing it so at least I know they are working hard on the game and I’m happy about thay
Honestly at this point I hope team cherry half asses the rest of the game and releases it unfinished with a battle pass and overpriced dlc just out of spite.
Yall have no idea what goes into making even a shitty game with 100s of employees behind it, and this is a small indie studio making a work of genuine art with a cohesive vision.
I personally don't think it's going to be announced soon, BUT if it were to be announced it WOULD be at the nintendo treehouse since that would be the most cathartic and thematic experience possible and imo drive the most hype. If it doesn't happen here it ain't happening this year

@@gdawgs101 nah man, I'm getting my information from ShortFatOtaku. He actually, really knows someone that's working on Silksong. If you're gonna try and create the argument that "Team Cherry is just 3 people", there's still the porting side of things and I'm sure that there's free lancer work that's done as well.
The reason I know that ShortFatOtaku is telling the truth is because in April I talked to him in a stream and he basically said that "it's gonna be a while". I then again talked to him 4 months later or so in a stream again, and he said something along the lines of "it's funny you say that because I actually do have some insider information".
Now, all SFO said is that it's going to be a while, same as that stupid summer games guy, only I got that information sooner, a lot sooner, so I didn't have to cope like the rest of you lot. Now, I'm interpreting that "It's gonna be while" to be "end of this year, early next year" That makes sense to me, when I piece all the evidence together along with confirmed information. You can decide whatever you want, but that's my full thought process. End of this year, Early next year.
I can forgive team cherry for taking a long time to make it, game development takes a long time, especially with a small number of people, I can’t understand though why there is a lack of communication with the community, even a simple “hey we’re still working on the game, thank you for your support” every few months would be enough to satisfy the community, yet they are dead silent

I highly suspect silksong is dealing with an engine switch after the whole unity fiasco so either the game is soft cancelled or it will be another couple years before we hear anything
An engine switch *could* be possible, although Unity did seemingly roll back a lot of the changes they originally made, so it's not as bad for developers now. They seemingly had the game in an almost-done state in May of 2023, as that was their original target. I think at this late stage of development, it would be a bit of a hassle to switch engines, even for Team Cherry.
