Here is some advice for everyone in regards to the "abandon ship" DO NOT GO INTO THE RAFT HEAD FIRST. they will fail you for that. Grab the side of the raft, throw your legs over, the roll in. Reason being is that in a real scenario, you'll snap your neck going head first.
It’s a breath of fresh air on your channel! You definitely care about new recruits coming in. I feel like you’d make a great teacher/professor once you get out!
To those of you that do not know how to float/swim and are going to boot camp in the future. Do yourself a big favor and go learn how to float/swim before you go to boot camp. Your local YMCA may have a swimming class available either for free or for nominal fee. Even though, the Navy will "attempt" to teach you (aka the sinker), the instructors will not be nice about it; they are not babysitters after all. The instructors will scream at you, then you will be scared and you will cry. It is an unnecessary and extra stress that you do not want to go through. I was an EOD/Diver and qualified as a Navy 1st Class Swimmer. I was going to become a Navy Swimming Instructor for my Shore Duty, but then realized that I did not want to be dealing with the crying "sinkers."
@@NeoDeity : Being in boot camp is stressful enough; the recruits should not wait to add even more stress by waiting to learn how to swim while they are in boot camp; they should have learned it beforehand. In the early-2000's, an issue of the Navy Times or All Hands (I don't remember) stated that about 30% of the sailors in the fleet cannot float/swim efficiently enough to save themselves in an event of emergency. Even though, all sailors & officers have been, at least, qualified as a 3rd Class Swimmer. The "jump" part of the testing used to simulate abandoning ship off a carrier deck. In my time in the Navy that was from a height of 30 feet. This jump looks like 10 feet. We crossed our arms (to prevent catching clothing or body parts on parts of the ship like antennas). We also had to cross our legs (to prevent a water column from entering our trousers and causing bodily injury to our sensitive area). I had problems with heights so I didn't pass on the first jump. I cringed when the instructor/grader would yell at me, "Do it again!" A scary skill that sailors must be able to execute when necessary.

I took the asvab and qualified for the nuke job I wanted. Then I found out about the naval academy. Should I enlist or wait until next year when I can try to get in to Annapolis?
If you haven't already, I suggest you look up videos here on RUclips about being a Nuke. You get a bonus for signing on as one but from what I heard its a pretty miserable rate. :/ I was looking at it too but after seeing the videos it definitely deterred me from wanting that rate. But if that's what you really want then that's great you qualified for it! Good luck man :)
You have to do what's best for you and makes you happy but yeah she said ☝️ there are several videos that will tell you the pros and cons of being a nuke
If you think you have a realistic shot of getting a nomination to go to the academy, then wait and go to the academy. Back when I enlisted (in 1999), I got 96 on the ASVAB and my recruiter was trying to push me into nuke, but I refused. I was adamant about becoming an EOD Tech. However, if I could do it all over again, I would have tried harder in school and get a nomination to go the "Anal Academy" (now, I am just making fun of those ring knockers).
The Navy has hair regulations that all sailors are required to follow. Your head will be shaved in bootcamp, its like a right of passage, think of it as your individuality being stripped from you and your being molded into a member of the team.
I had to have swim class to practice because I failed the week4 swim test, I had one final attempt to pass or I was going home they said I was scared didn't want to go home, I passed some didn't they were sent home wk.8 was easier
So im a 14 yr old and im looking this stuff up because being in the navy is my dream always has been so if anybody in the comments got any other tips that would be great and my only problem is that im working on is swimming but i would love some tips ab how it is there
Be careful with the "sinkers" around you that will try to grab onto you. I remember kicking someone, that was trying to grab my neck, away from me as I was swimming pass him. When the "sinkers" get scared, they will try to grab onto anything that comes close. Then, both of you would sink (then, fail the test). By the way, sorry to whoever that I kicked off me. I still do not know who he was and I still feel bad about it to this day.
Though, the pool is inside and the heat will be on, but it will still be cold, but not freezing. The temp. inside may be around 70 degrees in the winter.
I don’t know if it was just with my training group (I graduated Jan.25) but if we didn’t know how to swim they still made us jump and then they had the guy with the pole stick it out so you grab and pull yourself back to the side of the pool so you can get up and then they direct you to the kiddie pool

I leave on Thurs for RTC and I can't even swim.
I leave the 17th and I can’t swim either
I'm leaving next month and i can't either swim
@@marcjosephtan9402 they'll teach you.
why would you go to navy boot camp and not learn to swim first?
@@ShadeMiller One of the many reasons why I joined. As you can see, it went pretty well learning how to swim.
I remember using our dungarees as float devices and our shirts
Do the people who don't know how to swim need to jump from that platform?
no, if you can’t swim they will teach you
Yes you do. Unless you happen to go at a time where at least 4 or 5 divisions are at the pool at one time.
What week does this actually happen in boot camp?
From reading online, week five.
Can I ask you a question I 5'8 right now and I 189 pound would i able to join the bootcamp?
I leave for bootcamp this month, am I allowed to choose my swim technique?
Yes
I only know how to doggy paddle aye aye ron swanson (parks n rec reference)
I’m so scared I’m from Beaufort (the lowcountry) and I wouldn’t say I can’t swim but I have severe anxiety due to my family and friends trying to teach me the Hard Knock way but I really want to know ho DEEP that water is
Girls and guys go to bootcamp Together??!? In marines this barely came out for once.
Hello! Thx for this. Question: if I wear glasses how would they help me with that? Cause for me literally I can’t really see after like 5 mn with no glasses on🤔
I wanna do this shit again!
Fuck no they pushed us.
Finished boot camp about a year ago. They pushed everyone in our div and we all complained about it. Got told to suck it up.
It's. Not. That. Bad. Though.
Yall gotta chill.
Bootcamp is easy asf. I cant believe I was ever worried I'd fail. If you want something to be scared of, u should be scared of falling asleep in battle stations.
Good luck.
I leave tomorrow, can’t swim so i was gonna wing it but this vid is cool. Put me at ease knowing i won’t drown lol thanks 🙏🏾
How’s it going?
How’d it go
I took the asvab and qualified for the nuke job I wanted.
Why do most sailors cut their hair?? I ain't doing that when Im going to join the. Navy
The Navy has hair regulations that all sailors are required to follow. Your head will be shaved in bootcamp, its like a right of passage, think of it as your individuality being stripped from you and your being molded into a member of the team.
Luv the content man.
Yeah them was the days....If you ain't ordnance you ain't 💩..
How deep is the water they make u jump in?
12ft
My heart shaking watching, for me the scariest thing is that drop like will I be able to swim back up😅😅
How was it for you?
I had to have swim class to practice because I failed the week4 swim test, I had one final attempt to pass or I was going home they said I was scared didn't want to go home, I passed some didn't they were sent home wk.8 was easier
I heard that you had to jump
Off of a thirty foot tower?
That was so much fun!
So im a 14 yr old and im looking this stuff up because being in the navy is my dream always has been so if anybody in the comments got any other tips that would be great and my only problem is that im working on is swimming but i would love some tips ab how it is there
In our town, The Red Cross offers swimming lessons. That might help you. Good luck!
You’re 16 now! 2 years to go. Good luck 🎉
Wow they made us float on our back for 5 minutes
Was on the swim team in high school/college, this will be my rest day just wanted to know what I was getting into before I leave for boot camp
Bootcamp was super easy.
Is there heat inside or is it freezing cuz I’m going in December
It has to remain cold inside because it stops the spread of germs
Though, the pool is inside and the heat will be on, but it will still be cold, but not freezing. The temp. inside may be around 70 degrees in the winter.
So they ask you if you know how to swim before they start giving instructions ?
I don’t know if it was just with my training group (I graduated Jan.25) but if we didn’t know how to swim they still made us jump and then they had the guy with the pole stick it out so you grab and pull yourself back to the side of the pool so you can get up and then they direct you to the kiddie pool
@@karolyncortez9874, that is what they have done for years 👍
What I thought was kind of funny regarding the swim they will help u learn but I couldn't understand y would anyone not learn how to swim before u came to boot camp did those people not know ur going to be on a ship surrounded by ocean. How else did they think if the ship sinks u would drown. The recruiters should be working with these depers so they're ready
thanks bro nice video
Is that RTC great Lakes Illinois???
@Blackhawk 7755, yes 👍

How deep is the water they make u jump in? 4 ft 5 ft?

If that was the case u would severely hurt yourself on the dive in
Any advice for those who wear glasses?
Once you pass meps and you get to bootcamp they will issue you nee glasses at boot. I only wore them for class honestly
@@USNAaronPereira Are you allowed to wear them in the water? Or how does that work? I saw a few guys in your video wearing glasses.
Personal choice I believe
@@USNAaronPereira Oh okay thank you so much!
You shall put your glasses into your shorts.
