Totally agree. This is one of the creepiest yet smooth songs. This was WAY fucking ahead of its time. Still one of my favorites from them. The journey they take you on is just beyond anything else that was happening then. The calm, the crescendo then calm then... oh it's a roller coaster. So good
Now that you mention it, I'm seeing tons of evidence for that. The makeup design, the scene with the crab, the locale, the cinematography, etc. Wow. I can't believe there's a Duran Duran video referencing Zombi 2 and I didn't even know about it until recently.
Was more a "John" girl then, but hey, I just love bass players. But Simon came very close in as second. This video oh, how I wanted to be on that night boat back in early 80-ies.
For those of you who weren't alive during the MTV glory days, this band made MTV. So ahead of their time, every video they made was an artistic masterpiece. Not just pretty boys, but seriously talented. They were the whole package ❤
It is songs like these of Duran Duran's that many casual radio listeners never hear that show what a fully fledged out band with so much talent these guys have. Love it.
Saw them recently and they opened with this number. Hearing those eerie synths in the low lights and effects gave me some serious chills as the concert began made it one hell of an opener.
I was at the Tampa show and when they opened with this, I lost my mind! You could tell who the hardcore Duranees were by who was singing along to this!
my second fave duran video of all time! the acting! the shakespeare! nick's wrong timing with the mirror! john's scream! andy and nick working together for once! the band getting mauled by a bunch of undead duranies. roger surviving in the end (he was my fave when I was a kid)!
The first time I saw this video back in 83 or 84 I was determined to find out what he was saying and where did it come from. So because of Simon Le Bon I was introduced to Shakespeare and that was the start of a new life that would have his works and Duran Duran music influence it to this day 34 years later. :)
Absolutely! I spent ages looking through the entire works of Shakespeare looking for this quote and ended up with a lifelong love of Shakespeare and I can say that I am lucky enough to have had a personal phone call from Simon- spoke to him for half an hour courtesy of my lovely brother and his lovely girlfriend Helena!
Also that;s one of the things that I love most about DD was that they wrote such weird and beautiful and poetic lyrics and the videos were and still are works of art ! and they had a sense of humour as evident in their interviews ! Saw them live in Australia in 2007 and they were still brilliant!Half the audience were in their forties and the other half were in the age grou p of 19-24 and when I spoke to the latter group what they loved about DD was what we had and still did like about DD!
What a privilege for being raised in the 50's! My parents have shown and talked about the fun they had when people were never home, people socialized, people had fun, and nobody sat behind a screen!
Raw and artistic. No sellout, disposable pop here. First time hearing this song. Careless Memories is another unique piece of music on this album that is a must listen.
This bass line totally drives the creepy factor; The low-end usually does. My favorite bit to play is that dark B to G to open E at the end of 'echo me'. Always makes me raise my eyebrow on the G to E.
One of my favourite Duran Duran songs. This to me proves that even after 30 years, the band was not just an 80's phase. I feel excited still when I see a video from them that to my knowledge had never released a video. As for Shakespeare and zombies; keep in mind that the group were doing what they were told to do. The video was the creation of a video producers imagination. Artistic creativity, for better or worse. I liked hearing everyone speaking throughout.

I loved this video as a child. The video fits the music perfectly. I love the eeriness of it. And Simon is picture perfect! Love that first scene of him standing on the boat.
I remember going to a goth club in Enschede Holland in the late 80's and this track was played. I wonder how many people knew this masterpiece was Duran Duran?
I have loved this band for ages ( I discovered them 14 years ago when I was a teenager) but this is the first time that I see this video. I don't understand the complaints. The video is awesome and so ahead of this time where zombies are mainstream. Anyway, if you still don't like the video, the song is just too good.
This has to be one of my most favourite videos of the 80's! The fact that they were thinking more cinematic in their videos then their other contemporaries says much to Nick's love of movies! They didn't really put bad videos out! Also had some of the greatest directors as well!

Very accurate statement! Whole other side of the band. This energy shows itself through out the first album more so than any other but this song and video are monumental really! Before Thriller even! Better!!!!!😉Deeper!!!!! There was a depth to this band. I was in pre school when this came out. Saw the video way after the fact around 7and the Ragged Tiger. This band is a big part of my life and I appreciate you posting this video! I didn't have cable/MTV but had the albums so it's great to get watch this whenever after so many years! Cheers
Not only are they video geniuses for their time but they each do their instruments well. In my opinion, because of their new wave look, they had a quick female audience in large numbers and took criticism on true talent at first but love or not like them no one can argue to this day what Duran Duran has done for this industry.
I remember working so hard to save every penny because the VHS machine cost $500 to be able to save/record whatever snippet you could of the videos you loved
A zombie apocalypse video released before MJ's Thriller! I have always loved this song. It's so criminally underrated, and the layers of the song and video combined require you to watch it more than once to fully appreciate just how genius these guys are.
Duran Duran was doing zombies long before Michael Jackson made them cool! This has always been one of my favourite videos. In case you're wondering, 40+ years ago I researched what Simon was reciting. It's a soliloquy from Romeo and Juliet. Unfortunately, I can't remember if it was Romeo's or Mercutio's soliloquy. The whole video is great, though! ETA: Simon is doing Nightboat in concert again! So awesome!
I have a vhs with the guys early hits on video. This one is on it. Careless memories, my own way, lonely in your nightmare. Most of the early videos from first album and Rio. These videos help showcase the band and lots of play onMTV Love this one

Loved this video. One of their best, IMHO. Use to give me the creeps, late at night on MTV back in the day.
One of the best.. Nick Rhodes…!!!! Absolutely the Mozart of the era..!!🥳🥳🥰🥰🥰👍👍🎶🎶😊
Duran Duran
Nick is a Synth Master! He is so creative and adds such depth and texture to the ears with his instrument💯💥🤩!
Standing on the edge of a quay
Low lights flashing on the water for me
Fogging my mind darkens my eyes
Silently streaming for a distant sound
Ripple river yellows
Rising for a breath of breeding and drowns
Stillness overcomes me in the night
Listen to the rising water moan
[Chorus]
I'm waiting
Waiting for the night bo-oh-oat
I'm waiting
Waiting for the night boat
[Verse 2]
Shudders all through me shudder away
Echo me, echo me (echo me...)
Am I alone or is the river alive
'Cause it echos me, echos me, echos me
[Chorus]
I'm waiting
Waiting for the night bo-oh-oat
I'm waiting
Waiting for the night boat
Waiting
Waiting for the night bo-oh-oat
I'm waiting
Waiting for the night boat
Waiting for the night bo-oh-oat
I'm waiting
Waiting for the night boat
[Outro]
Duran Duran
Travelling down memory lane brought me here. I loved D2 and this was one of my favourites.
I remembered that I purchased a video of Duran Duran when Night boat came out, I couldn't watch the video because it scared the crap out of me!!!

Duran Duran Love The 1981
1981
I was a fan of Duran Duran 40 years ago...I was 10 and it was a time when it wasn't cool for boys to like them. So, I was a secret fan...but now I'm out in the open. They're a great band and continue to make great music!
I was a fan out in the open. Maybe that is why everyone hated me ?
Nice blood curdling scream JT :DD
So that's why the mirror shatter when nick see himself in the mirror. He forgot wearing his make up. Good thing the boat didnt drown when they got simon on board he didnt even need make up to be a zombie

This is the best music video EVER!
ON THE EDGE OF THE KEY....
LOVE THE CRABS!!!
ATTACK OF THE BRUSSELS ELITES ON ALL WORLD SOVEREIGNTY
Very accurate statement! Whole other side of the band. This energy shows itself through out the first album more so than any other but this song and video are monumental really! Before Thriller even! Better!!!!!😉Deeper!!!!! There was a depth to this band. I was in pre school when this came out. Saw the video way after the fact around 7and the Ragged Tiger. This band is a big part of my life and I appreciate you posting this video! I didn't have cable/MTV but had the albums so it's great to get watch this whenever after so many years! Cheers
Nadie, jamás en la historia musical, como Duran Duran!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💗💗💗💗💗
Dark and doomy. I love this side of Duran Duran! Been a fan since 1983.
SO glad they made a video for this song!!🙌
Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Duran Duran - Night Boat (Official Music Video) 1981
This song scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Love it.
I am seeing Duran Duran tomorrow night in Boston and cannot wait to hear this tune to start the show. Wow, cool song!
Came back to this after hearing the new reworked version, on Danse Macabre. This original and new version are simply sublime !!! 👌
they opened their 2023 shows with the reworked version. amazing entrance

Definately a great number to open their live shows with !!! 👌
John's screaming 😂
A zombie apocalypse video released before MJ's Thriller! I have always loved this song. It's so criminally underrated, and the layers of the song and video combined require you to watch it more than once to fully appreciate just how genius these guys are.
Best beginning of a track...especially for this time of year. Very atmospheric!.
So awesome!
Probably will remain my favorite music video for the rest of my life
I have a vhs with the guys early hits on video. This one is on it. Careless memories, my own way, lonely in your nightmare. Most of the early videos from first album and Rio. These videos help showcase the band and lots of play onMTV
Love this one
Classic. Andy rules. They all do. Love Simon's monologue intro. Still my fave band.
Definitely my favorite classic video and song night boat, still chilling at my age 51yrs young.
