I hope you enjoyed me testing the waters in finding some Wandavision outfits but in true vintage patterns. If you enjoyed this type of video please let me know what show you want to see next!
Wait no coffee?? Are you being held captive?? Is this a cry for help??... another awesome video I loved wandavision so much now you need to make some of these xx
there might be a "playsuit" or romper pattern that would do as a base for the magician assistant outfit, some of those are pretty daring. ( for "modern" techniques there are drafting tutorials for playboy-bunny style structured bodysuits, but that veers away from the point of finding vintage to base it off.)
Not seen WV but I would not be surprised if it was deliberately Historic-ish not Historic Accurate. my fave historic show Poirot is in amorphous Deco Time. I know Damn well they cheated on non principal characters with revival wardrobe from the 80s & some of the buildings are 50s futurists but that just makes the World all the more Immersive. Similarly it sounds like the Historic elements on WV are made to be an exaggerated memory of the times as opposed to an accurate portray. And, this may be done as an inside joke or an artistic statement but whatever if it works it works! great show! would love more like this
For the magicians’s assistant costume, I’d suggest a 1950s maillot/one piece swimsuit pattern similar to Butterick 6536 (1953 I think) or McCalls 3977 from 1956 (omit skirt) designed by Emilio Pucci. When I was 16, I owned a vintage swim that was very similar to Wanda’s outfit but mine was pastel blue gingham, not blinged to eternity.
as a knitter i have seen 1950s knit boleros in this shape, however the bolero in the show is definitely machine knit so you would need to knit in an extremely fine gauge to get that look. Most of the knitting patterns i have seen for boleros are usually a batwing or raglan style sleeve over the set in sleeve of her bolero.
There were actually a lot of similar rounded boleros in the 50s and 60s, but (as you mentioned) they were usually knitted. There are some really nice reproduction patterns on Etsy if anyone needs a starting point.
For Wanda's wedding dress McCall's 4008 is really close. The only difference is that it has a flat front panel for the skirt and it's a teen pattern. But the skirt is an easy fix and most people won't be expexting to find their exact size anyway. And for the bow dress, Advance's 5436 looks very similar besides the buttons down the front of the bodice.
I crochet. I love to crochet. I'm good at crochet, but I can't knit. The way you talked about knitting is exactly how I feel about it. Flailing hands included. This was a wonderful video. Thanks. Wouldn't mind seeing more like this. Patterns for historic influenced cosplay.
I loved this video. And I also agree with the whole bolero situation. The top part of that outfit took me right out of the era and back to reality. It just looked wrong and bugged me a lot.
This information is /very/ dangerous information, I hope you know. Have you watched Agent Carter? It's wonderful and on Diseny+ and involves Peggy hitting men with blunt objects until they stop moving. I need basically her entire wardrobe
I know I’m late but simplicity 1154 would work for the wedding dress you would have to alter the skirt. But I love this dress. I made it for Christmas Simplicity 2763 is close for the bow dress
That was fun to see those old patterns. I remember some of them. I graduated high school in 73. I tried to find more things that were Edwardian and Victorian in style. I loved Simplicity 8305 the Tiered Dress. I wore that out to dinner, to parties, BBQs; it got a lot of wear. I also had an empire waist dress pattern too. I haven't seen the pattern yet when looking through old patterns on your website or any of the others. My mom's philosophy was to throw the pattern out once you made it. I tried to keep it but sometimes she would go through my things and all of a sudden they were gone. (Like when I went to Summer or Winter camp every year, not only as a camper but as a teacher or cook when I got older.) I now have crates of patterns ....
The modern looking bolero is what my grandmother used to call a "soul warmer" (directly translated from norwegian). I googled "sjelevarmer" and found several examples, all knitted. Not sure how old the consept is, but my grandmother was born in 1915 and died in 2003. I remember her wearing hers and it was well worn back then.
Wedding Dress-McCalls 4008 is pretty close too. Bow Neck Dress-Simplicity 1620 & 1982. Magicians Outfit-Lutterloh swimsuit from 1950s is really close! Vogue 7677 is good too. Simplicity 9723 for Monica’s shirt. Simplicity 3746 has a fabulous rounded bolero. Vogue 9311 is really close to Wanda’s outfit in Ep 3.
I’m a rather new vintage sewer and just discovered your channel and subscribed. Loved this video! I’d be a fantastic series! I’d particularly love to see any patterns that match up with outfits from The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel!!
This video had me so excited! Thank you for pattern suggestions. A Wandavision cosplay is high on my list of to dos so this is super helpful. Always look forward to your videos and really appreciate the awesome content. I just got my first vintage pattern and I'm excited to get to sewing.
From watching your presentations I had a realization. My sisters and I always wondered why my mother always had to wear a belt. Her waist had long since departed and her bust had gone south. She was a young woman in the time period that these styles were popular and looked good in them. Sadly she never acknowledged that ship has sailed.
I love this kind of video, you could cover 1950s based movies like Ladies in black or mona lisa smile. Whenever I watch them I have to put down everything just to stare at the clothes!
I know I’m late to the party but as a Wanda lover and hopeful Wanda cosplayer this is hella helpful. Thank you so much for this! I’ve been looking for the shirt dress pattern since the behind the scenes photos dropped. I’d love to do the nightgown one day too but my perfectionist brain may never allow me to begin it for fear I’ll never be able to 100% replicate it.
I ended up getting Simplicity 3384 for the 50s bow dress. Technically theres no bow on the simplicity pattern but the detachable collar looked the closest I could find and I plan on extending the collar and adding the bow. I plan on making a few of these outfits. You could go to a whole con and just be wanda from the series!
What fun! I really enjoyed seeing how you 'recreated' these costumes/clothes. Now I'd love to see you recreate the dresses from the series "The Queen's Gambit" because those are to die for. Cheers!
There were wedding/bridal peignoir sets, maybe there are patterns for those. My understanding is they were more elaborate than everyday sets. Just a thought.
This was fantastic and I’m hooked on your channel. Excited to add you into my RUclips mix. That being said…I would love a suggestion or five for the Agnes plaid dress in E1…or an Agnes episode in general (wait let me pop out and back in incase you already did that…okay you didn’t…phew)!! Lastly, I saw someone else mention Marvelous Mrs Maisel…would love to see your pattern suggestions for season 1 outfits…or even just the episodes focused in season 2 where they’re in The Catskills for the summer. Those were great and we are entering summer now so that would be fun. TTFN 🤙🏻
This was super cool to watch! I actually already bought Simplicity printed pattern 1319 from 1955 for Wanda’s shirtwaist dress. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it’s not as exact of a match as I’d have liked but I liked the collar so I’m going to tinker around with a mockup to get it a bit closer. I.e. getting rid of the button down front on the skirt and flaring it out a bit more, etc. It’s a good enough base for me to do so anyway.
Well. This was fun. And a peek into the show everybody is talking about - thanks for that. We're sticking to DVD's of Sherlock right now. - Luddite Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
The wedding dress is an exact duplicate of the wedding dress in the Audrey Hepburn film, Funny Face. Even as a very little girl when I first saw it on Saturday afternoon movies, I found the dress stunning. My wedding dress was exactly like the bow neckline dress, only my dress was full length and the drape around the shoulders was larger and stiffer. I got married in 1990 and it was a high end wedding dress that was fashionable then, so maybe look for the pattern from the late 1980s. I love the vintage look.
Hi Stephanie, Advance 7902 may give a great substitute for the rounded edge, collarless bolero? It looks to be pretty close-ish, just make the sleeves long?
I was wondering could you help me locate the original vintage pattern of simplicity 1459 vintage repro 1950's dress pattern and the reproduction of vintage 1950's sewing pattern b29 women's one piece drop waist full skirt simplicity 1195 no th are on etsy?
The original of 1459 is Simplicity 2954. For Simplicity 1195, have you checked on FB groups? There are so many people out there looking to find new homes for. My favorite are Sweet Vintage Patterns, Vintage Pattern Bazaar and Nerds Budget Boutique.
I hope you enjoyed me testing the waters in finding some Wandavision outfits but in true vintage patterns. If you enjoyed this type of video please let me know what show you want to see next!
This is the kinda content the mainstream media consumers need when obsessing over popular shows
Thank you so much! I was hoping so, instead of the inevitable "vintage reproduction" patterns that will come out of this show.
Also I had forgotten about that STUPID BOLERO UGH
Right?!?!?
9:56 Vogue 5038 from the 60’s is almost an exact match for the bow/collar/sleeve/Bertha situation!
AH!!!! AMAZING!! Thank you so much! That is almost spot on! You ROCK!
Wait no coffee?? Are you being held captive?? Is this a cry for help??... another awesome video I loved wandavision so much now you need to make some of these xx
I know right!! I didn’t realize it until I was full on filming. 🤣🤣🤣

GIMME ALL THE WANDAVISION PATTERNS PLEASE
Right I love that show so much!!!

I hope the costume designer is nominated!
ME TOO!!! She did such a phenomenal job of bringing all the eras to light.
Literally everything about this video brings me so much joy. Love from a vintage dork, Marvel fan, and actual Canadian! :)
Thank you so much Robin! I am so glad that you enjoyed this one. I went out on a limb and it seems like there shall be more coming.

I love this video. I love the fact that Stephanie found the closest patterns to what wanda was wearing in the wanda vision episodes.

That is what I was thinking, and thank you for helping folks head in the correct direction!
I would love to have you do this for old shows and old movies. The music man comes to mind.

Vogue’s vintage pattern line 1094 has a nice drop waist and a boat neck. I’m partial to it because I made my wedding dress from it 🥰
I loved this video. And I also agree with the whole bolero situation. The top part of that outfit took me right out of the era and back to reality. It just looked wrong and bugged me a lot.

Oh I have watched Agent Carter and I do love it but I am still not drawn to her wardrobe.
I know I’m late but simplicity 1154 would work for the wedding dress you would have to alter the skirt. But I love this dress. I made it for Christmas
Simplicity 2763 is close for the bow dress
Thank you!
I'd love it if you'll try Pushing Daisies next. The are two short seasons full of beautiful vintage looks.
Oh interesting. I will have to look into it.

I have never been so inspired to sew with a vintage pattern before Wandavision. This video is just what I needed, thank you!
Oh Mary! I am so happy to hear that!
What a fabulous video! Such a great breakdown of the costumes! Thank you also for the shout out
Thank you so much! I loved your creation SO very much!

This was a lot of fun! Please do more. Advance 6993. Check it out in pattern wiki. I think it's close to the bow collar dress.
Oh cute! That is definitely a good collar and bodice for her dress! Thank you Michelle!
I’m a rather new vintage sewer and just discovered your channel and subscribed. Loved this video! I’d be a fantastic series! I’d particularly love to see any patterns that match up with outfits from The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel!!
And I’m going to have to troll my 70s stash to find suggestions for you. I could swear I have a similar pattern...
Wow!! thank you Stephanie, I really enjoyed this video. I hope you will make more like this.
Thank you so much! I enjoyed digging into the Wiki to find all the patterns I didn't have on hand. It was LOTS of fun putting this together.
This video had me so excited! Thank you for pattern suggestions. A Wandavision cosplay is high on my list of to dos so this is super helpful. Always look forward to your videos and really appreciate the awesome content. I just got my first vintage pattern and I'm excited to get to sewing.
Oh yeah!! I am so glad that I could help a little in your cosplay adventure. I would love to see the final product!!
I am a new subscriber, I am so glad you popped up in my recommendations.
Love this episode!
Thank you so much!
this is absolutely the type of content we want

Thank you so much Colette!
Love your hair and dress in this one! So beautiful! :)
I would love a whole series of this !
Thank you so much!

I plan on making a few of these outfits. You could go to a whole con and just be wanda from the series!
This was great! The costumes were so cute! This must have been so much research. I want to sew some vintage now.
It was a fair amount of research, but asking me to dig through patterns is like asking a kid to open presents on Christmas morning! I LOVED it!
Loved the breakdown of this!
Thank you so much Salinda!
For the 50s day dress I used simplicity pattern 1459 for mine. It’s easy to find at a Joanne Fabrics. (I’m not a professional so don’t @ me)
Oh no!! No @ on this channel!! I am glad one of the ones that can be picked up at the store can help replicate it. Thank you for sharing. 😄

Aww thank you so much! I do have Mrs. Maisel coming up in my list, but closer to the release of Season 3.
This was fun!.. and surprisingly instructive too :)
Remember that movie Pleasantville? I think it would be cool to see a pattern/authenticity review of that one
Loved this so Much!! Good Episode
This was super cool to watch! I actually already bought Simplicity printed pattern 1319 from 1955 for Wanda’s shirtwaist dress. Advance 9585 is super close to Wanda's 50s dinner dress!
Excellent video and I love this idea!
Thank you so much!
Love watching you.
Thank you so much!
Love this! Would you do Lovecraft Country!!!!!!!!
Thank you Monica! I can certainly look into it.

I found a pattern that kinda matches the bolero. Advance 2283. Found it on ebay.
Great and fun video!
Love your outfit.
I just found and bought a factory folded butterick 7618! I can’t wait to see if I can make a replica!
OMG YEs!!!
Where did you get your super cute top? Also, you look so pretty in this episode. Love this content!
Hi Stephanie, Advance 7902 may give a great substitute for the rounded edge, collarless bolero? It looks to be pretty close-ish, just make the sleeves long?
Also, McCall's 3184 ! (Edited as I typo'd the pattern number first time around)
