Hello, I was the only one where I live who was saving all the leaves in a big heap to use in my then just started vegetables garden, now more and more wake up. Lived in France for 23 years before coming back to the Netherlands in 2014. Learned a lot from the French, they called the leaves the black gold. You leave one heap for 2 years and use what you need and start another. All my kitchen scraps go into a recipient I made from a pallet, mix it with green and black you just scratch it a big and you find a mass of worms feasting, don’t believe all the idiots who tell you, oh no don’t put in meat, fish or citrus peel and so on. I start another on after oktober and if my bed are empty I put the ready one on my garden beds for the winter and cover with the leaves. Free and very intelligent.😂😂😂😂😂😂

So true. Just about everything goes into the mulch and fish is absolutely wonderful fertilizer. I don't throw meat in mine anymore because we have too many bears coming to the yard but we used to where we lived before.

My garden is a jungle but there`s no weeds. I occasionally chop up the more packed area with a hand pick ax, make a small hole for transplants, or dig a trench for potatoes, and I sprinkle my green grass clippings, mowed over leaves, leaf mold, cardboard and pieces of rotting logs all around the garden to keep a thick mulch layer everywhere.
I haul in rich forest soil and leaf mold in my garden dump wagon to make piles for growing squash, melons, potatoes, carrots, beets, rutabagas etc. Food grows in my garden all year here in central Louisiana and I`ll cover plants if a very bad freeze happens to keep them healthy.
I also fill cardboard boxes with forest soil on top of a packed, gravel parking area here that`s a dead zone and continually expand that area into a growing zone. I put leaf mold, chunks of rotting branches, some living compost with worms and green grass clippings in the boxes before filling with soil and planting.

First time I have seen your channel.
WOW what an AWESOME garden you have.
We live in South Africa 🌍 So we are new to gardening. We had to start from scratch in this new garden. We moved from Johannesburg to Kwa Zulu Natal two and half years ago.
Had to get used to a new climate which is quite different to Joburg. Flooding, hail and wind storms. Extreme weather.
Very challenging. But I love gardening and you have to pick yourself up and start again.
Here where we live they don't leave bags of leaves on the side of the road's. I have to rake up the leaves and bring the bags home.
We have a huge Maple 🍁 tree in the complex we live in, and I spend about an hour raking up the leaves. There is a local park a few mins drive from here, about 20 Maple 🍁 trees are growing there. Tons of leaves to be had. Last year collected many bags of Maple 🍁 leaves there.
Our daughter and son-in-law gifted me a vacuum/blower for Christmas last year.
Much easier than using the lawnmower. But the downside, I got plastered with dust from head to toe, and I have and have a bath. 😂
I started last year collecting leaves. Wonderful how the leaves have broken down, pitch black about 1 foot underneath the leaves. Lots of busy earthworms and grubs broke the leaves down. They did a great job.
I have shared your video with my gardening family, friends and my neighbours next door.
I love to experiment and try different things in the garden.
Its fun to explore and experiment, I have learnt a lot.
I have watch many videos on RUclips and have learnt a lot
Love to see how people all over the world garden. So interesting 🤔
Thank You for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Very grateful.
Much love from South Africa 🌍 Peace and blessings ❤️

This method has served me well over the years and you're right, as you dig into the leaves, the richer the mulch becomes. It's gardener's gold for sure. We sometimes rake the woods to get leaves and ground fodder. Raking is good exercise. Everything we rake up goes on the garden, leaves, grass clippings, tree bark, you name it. Thanks for sharing my video. Many blessings to you.

Where I live now there are very few trees that drop their leaves in the fall. What I've found is that if you cut your grass every week, before the seed heads can mature, and put a thick layer of the clippings on the garden it will work the same way. Grass breaks down faster than the leaves will so I'm always adding more. A good thick layer prevents new grass and weeds from growing and my hubby is happy to not have to dispose of his clippings or weed wack around the beds. I'll place about a 4 inch wide layer of clippings around the beds and that gives the lawn mower enough room to get right up to the bed and not disturb anything in the bed. Anything that blows into the garden wont take root because the mulch is too deep. When something actually finds a way, it comes out very easily. Usually it's the ants bringing in seeds that grow and not seeds that came on the wind.

Dandelions also put down a deep taproot that pulls minerals from below so all the plants can utilize them. Dandelions also are medicinal, from the flowers & seeds to the roots, the entire plant!🌱 🌿 Tea, tinctures, leaves in salads, and we can even make wine with the flowers. Dandelion is one of the most valuable plants!❤

Same for grass off your lawn. It’s high in nitrogen. The next week gets put on the priviouscweeks so it all rots. No weeds and cuts way way back on potatoe bugs.

@raymcdonald731 Yes, you can mix with garden soil in October or add to the compost pile one or 2 years before breaking, then add to the soil .Can't use March or April before planting ,too strong horses manure can burn plants 🪴.

I agree with your gardening methods bcuz thats the way I've done it for years. I also use ground up wood chips, saw dust, and the old hay waste. A little homemade charcoal wood ashes, and coffee grounds are great too.
Don't forget the epsom salts on the strawberries. They like the relaxing "bath" and become "excited" to bloom & grow. LOL

I must admit, that's one reason I've never chosen to garden. I despise pulling weeds, and am not a fan of large water bills. I've been told that horse manure is some fantastic fertilizer and seems to be a great mulch base too.

Great video as always. I was happy when you mentioned hay for mulch as I live in an evergreen forest where there’s no leaves! Only needles and tons of pine cones. But I can find hay…so I’ll give that a try this year. It’s amazing that you don’t have to water!!!

Keeping my faith Our Heavenly Father will guide me to my forever place, so I can grow food and be with nature. You actually quoted Bill Mollison. We usually went back to tilling as our garden has been over 1 acre. Each year reducing but Bill suggested as a start 12 trees, 3 of each kind. Maybe 3 walnuts, 3 hazelnuts or chestnuts, 3 cherries, 3 apples. Far less work & results for hundreds of years. We can't grow nuts well here however. Well unless we build a 9 foot fence my 18 deer kill most everything by rubbing or eating even my tomatoes last year. Easy would be to consume them but I mentioned CWD. So working on repairing my 1600 foot rail fence for a beef as I think Alberta Beef is better than potatoes for health & builds soil. We sowed clovers & alphalpha
