Hey Daniel 😊 I started watching your videos a while back because I was going on a holiday to Corfu. I wanted to understand the culture and I learned the very basics of Greek. I’m not one of the those ignorant people who always expect others to make adjustment for me. Since then, I’ve just been watching your uploads. I’m also an immigrant, but I’m in France, so it is interesting to see what others are going through. Well done for integrating so well. I have also integrated really well here in France. It helps that the French people are extremely nice and welcoming. And of course that I got off my arse and learnt French … still learning…it’s a forever job 😜 Good luck my fellow foreigner 🤩

Greetings from a Filipino living in Denmark! I just felt the need to share this because I am emotional at the moment hahaha (it’s quite long)
Ever since I stumbled upon one of your videos whilst looking for information about travelling in Greece I have been happy watching them-from you showing us your mundane day-to-day life to you sharing the sublime beauty of Greece. I haven’t been home to the Philippines for almost 2 years now and seeing your videos gives me comfort and warmth. I went to Greece last month (July) for a summer vacation and I didn’t expect to fall madly in love with it. I felt very connected maybe because I see a lot of similarities between our culture that I have missed while living here in Scandinavia. I also had the pleasure of talking to a few locals because I’ve noticed that they become engaging and helpful to you when they see your enthusiasm in trying to speak their language 😁💞 Anyway, thank you for sharing your soulful videos! Please please keep it up 🙏🏽🤍💙

On a serious note, this is both good and bad. The good is that it's a more relaxed lifestyle. The bad is that you can end up rotting away while doing nothing with yourself.
Having lived in America and being Greek, I have a contrasting view of coffee shops. OTOH, in the college coffee shop in the states, you saw young people occasionally talking with each other, but mostly behind a laptop doing homework. OTOH, in coffee shops across Greece, a ton of young people on the streets, having fun, smoking, drinking coffee, but also... looking aimless.

    • @anna45333
      @anna45333 Месяц назад +3

Yes. For the average Greek it is. Especially over islands. Cause the prices over islands are aimed so that the foreign rich tourists buy them and get ripped off but this habit chases people away and i believe that some day the tourism in Greece will be hurt by this mentality. Let alone the locals just cant visit the islands and the most nice places. Greeks are locked out of the best part of their country. And this is why over the years the Greeks of the inner land have developed a dislike for the Greeks of the islands especially those that occupy with tourism enterprizes. In fact we wouldn't care if the Turks would attack and pillage their islands. Noone is going to fight for them. Cause these islands feel already non-Greek. Perhaps if the Turks get them we Greeks can have a chance to at last visit them cause the Turks will probably have friendlier prices for the Greeks than those Greek-islanders have. This is our moan with the islanders that has been developed over the years.

I am mentioning it cuz i saw comments below from some Greeks who live abroad and have this nostalgia... Greece is great but in my opinion, Greece u are showing us is tending to disappear. Low lvl of income in combination with inflation and other things that government should implement so that everything can work for everyone as it should, has made ppl in bigger areas very competitive and selfish.

Strong habits don't easily die? I compare this fatality also to the same national habit of simply ignoring and bypassing the usage of the car safety belt by putting a key in the safety belt holderlock in the car, which you can easily find and buy anywhere from most peripteros. in which other European country do you see such things in 2024? nowhere.

In Greece they smoke cigarettes with tobacco. I am a Greek American and live in Queens NY. In NYC, people smoke marijuana. Every sidewalk smells like pot. Every block has 5 smoke shops on it. Some are illegal smoke shops (that sell pot and other illegal drugs). I don't smoke anything. I would just like the pot smokers not to be in front of my house. Also, New Yorkers drink alcohol in little bottles and throw them on private property where people live (like my house). Greece is better.

The country has 3 major problems in my opinion, that led a lot of Greeks, including myself away.
    1. There are laws but they are not applicable,
    2. Driving behavior is amongst the worst i have ever seen.
    3. Corruption.
Rather than that, if you choose to bypass these, you can have a wonderful way of living.

Nafplio is not that small for Greece.

    • @MyGreekLifestyle

I lived in mayor cities, Houston, Caracas, London and Ottawa. So to me a town of 15,000 people is small. Plus, for the grand majority of my audience (foreigners) such town is small. I'll go as far to say that even Athenians consider Nafplio small and some couldn't fathom the idea of living in Nafplio, because it's small.

I don't really understand the question but of course women can sit like that. Greece is not, how to put it gently? , Afghanistan or something. I don't want to be offensive here.
The difference is that Daniel sitting with his friends at one of his friends (panayiotis) shop. If a woman has a shop and her friends appear and say hi how are you?, they will sit and talk exactly like Daniel.
Small town folks or villagers usually sitting around their friends shops for coffee tsipouro beer or just to chat. Especially during the summer. No matter if you are a woman or a man.
Now if you mean cafes or restaurants or bars/clubs it's exactly the same thing.

      Curiosity is everywhere.
Kafenion was for men (and still is) if you are talking about the old fashioned traditional kafenion. It is "strange" to see a girls company in one.
Same as seeing girls playing tavli. :)
