Challenges Faced When Building Various DPDK-based Applications - Vivek Gupta, Benison Technologies Pvt Ltd
Vivek Gupta, CTO of Benison Technologies has led multiple teams to provide solutions for various problems in the networking and security space. Vivek will talk about the different challenges that were encountered while building different DPDK-based applications and how those challenges were overcome. While the solutions were custom-engineered, better generic solutions can be designed for such problems. Most of the applications were to migrate different types of generic Linux-based networking applications to be DPDK based, without writing them from scratch. Time to Market was key. So it was acceptable even if some of the performance benefits were not fully realized. Examples of these projects are -- migrating socket-based applications (SSL based) to DPDK. Integrating multiple security applications as a service chain in DPDK. Vivek describes how the solutions were achieved, what kind of challenges were faced in building such a class of applications and proposes standard solutions to be integrated into DPDK so that such migrations can be done easily.
