My grandfather was a sheet metal fabricator at cocatoo Island and retired the same day the last of this class was refitted and returned to the navy in 1991. I'm glad I can still see his craftsmanship.
I visited Onslow in 2002. This video brings back many memories, and a question. Why did these submarines use round bulkhead hatches as opposed to the oval hatches used on American submarines?
I did a tiger cruise on this one with my dad when he was in the sas regiment and he took me from Fremantle to Darwin and around Australia back in Fremantle in 1980.s
