Wow, this one tears me apart. I got to see them in concert a few years ago and even got to chat with Rebecca (lead vocals, mandolin, guitar) for a few minutes and they are just as real and sweet and beautiful as this song would have you believe. So it hurts me to know about their grandparents. Moreover, my own father and both of my wife's parents suffered from dementia at the end of their lives, so I've seen firsthand what it steals. And Megan's lap steel has never sounded more haunting and beautiful and terrifying all at the same time. Thank you so much for this. Love you two.
You listened to the mandolin version! This version is SO hauntingly beautiful. This was the first of their songs I listened to, and I was hooked, HARD. Honestly, not a single bad song from them. Throw a dart at a list...
They are incredible. You can dig any song of them. Have seen them live and it was great. They have become my favorite band over the last years.
And they have done countless covers on RUclips. You can spend hours watching their versions of famous songs.

I discovered these sister about 2 years ago. The are amazing! They are actual nieces of Edgar Allen Poe! 😏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Larkin is Edger’s brother…they are named after him! I’m always so happy when I see this song reacted to. It helps to spread their message more and bring attention to something that we need to pay more attention to. I’ve loved everything I’ve listened to by Larkin Poe. Hopefully you’ll do more of them.
Shame this world isn’t filled with more empathetic and loving folks like you two. This world wouldn’t be so screwed up if it was.
This is my favorite version of the song. The mandolin is perfect for it.
I agree that they should be more well known. I have listened to the for years now and have all their albums. They did get nominated for a Grammy Award this year and I think it's their second nomination in their career. However, it's probably in the Blues or American category and it's not a category that will even be presented on live tv during the Grammy Awards show. It's a shame that there are so many really good and talented musicians that don't get attention because America is obsessed with Pop music which typically has less substance. I am not sure how it is in other countries.
Such talented and versatile musicians. During the pandemic they did a bunch of exceptional acoustic covers of tunes simply to keep all of us entertained. I highly recommend them: "Kiss From A Rose," "Bell Bottom Blues," "You Can Close Your Eyes," and "Wicked Game" just to mention a few.
Some of those covers were in some weird places, and they were still amazing sounding. They have an ear for good acoustics.
Larkin Poe are wonderful. Should listen to one of their live blues songs and one of their acoustic covers. Real musicians.

Originally "The Lovell Sisters, a trio with their older sister, who played fiddle and was lead vocalist. They were regulars on Prairie Home Companion until sis got married and started a family. Rebecca and Megan went on to form Larkin Poe playing more Americana/Blues style music rather than Bluegrass. I Love their music in all it's forms.

These two are one of my favorites. They started off as The Lovell Sisters with older sister, Jessica. That girl could really sing also, but she decided for a family life instead of show business and traveling. Absolutely nothing wrong with that!
This song hits home for me. My mother passed away a year ago and she had dementia. I took care of her for the last two years of her life and it was heartbreaking to see her not only deteriorate physically but even more so to see her mind go to the point she barely recognized me at the end. Truly heartbreaking. RIP Ma.
If you want another heart wrenching song that is a recounting of a tragic event from the singer's childhood , check out I Love You Charlene by Linda Stokley.. She is also half of the duo The Local Honeys and an major song writing talent. Just have the tissues ready, I'm a 57 year old man and have seen a lot in my time, I still fight the tears everytime I listen to this song..
You will not find a song or cover on their you tube channel that doesn’t give you those chills they’re cover channel songs are their renditions of some very popular songs OLD and new look forward to your comments and feelings thank you
