And this is why you don’t throw food on swan nests… !

- Honestly guys, I know the people who do this mean well, but it’s so dangerous to throw food on nests! The pens don’t need it, they get off and feed each day so throwing food at the nest is both unnecessary and dangerous.
Some amazing pics of Sydney today though, action pics of Sydney the goose chaser. Not nice for the geese, but that boy is majestic!!
Swans are very protective of their babies and people should leave them alone, had a male that lived in a pond for 20 yrs, lost his mate. Found a new mate had a broud and then this stupid woman in a kayak got to close and the dad went after her and the Dec came and killed them. IMO they should have her instead
Agree with you there, she was at fault invading their home 😔
Why would anyone kill a swan for attacking potential predators that get to close to their brood? It's not a bear or a crocodile that can actually do serious harm and might develop a habit of attacking humans. It's a bird that a person can just clamp under their arm and carry around like a duffle bag, and they don't have any actual weapons or defenses beyond their size so they basically have to bluff their way through any encounter with a creature larger than them.
I agree. Humans can be SO STUPID
That's awful.
The problem with swans and geese is they scare them when they have goslings rendering them helpless and vulnerable to prey.
That male swan has so much work to do!
Yes he has his work cut out for sure!
Ciao ragazzi.

They are truly beautiful and should be respected in the same way we expect privacy and respect 💜
Very true
What a beautiful scene in a beautiful place.
As a child my uncle gave me some old bread and said to go across the street to the river to feed the Swans I was so excited to feed them next thing one launched out of the water & bit me he chased me as I ran home. That bite hurt a lot. Never again did I feed any type of Bird. Lesson learned.
He was probably nesting and being protective, always need to be mindful.
Not gonna lie, its very expected considerin how geese in general go about being territorial. Swans are just the prettier version of them.
Daddy’s doing his job! 💕
Yes he’s amazing, we love our Sydney ❤️
Im curious if that rat has taken up residence within the nest, if the eggs or cygnets may be a target.
The rats live along the lakeside, I see them regularly and will feed them away from the nest as they need to eat too, but it did seem to be searching for food rather than living there and that’s a worry. Hopefully it was after food scraps and not the eggs, but they can and do take eggs too.
I’m putting a sign up today explaining about why no one should throw food at the nest.

It looked like a water vole rather than a rat.
Rats can get their teeth around very small birds eggs. They cannot even get into chicken eggs, they have to roll the egg out of the nest & try & crack them. I would not think a swan's egg had any fear from a rat. The rat would not have the jaw strength to penetrate the egg, even if it could find the angle to do so, I don't think they would have the strength to roll one out of the nest either. They really struggle even with chicken eggs & would rather find an easier meal. If the rat was living in the nest it would be for warmth & protection I would think. The swan didn't seem very concerned or she would have got up & chased the rat as soon as she saw it.👍
That was a fun watch. Thank you!
I've seen chickens kill rats. I assume the swan could do the same
Nice video and very good advice.
Thank you!
Thank you for this enjoyable video, I must point out though that the swan on the nest is a Cob/Male and the other one on the water is a Pen/Female.
I know ❤️
Heartwarming to see that even male animals and birds wants to instinctively protect their families! 🦢❤️
Lol Sydney. The series of video-stills of flight were really something.
Canadian geese are call “Cobra Chickens” here as they will attack anyone or anything near their nest
I love all birds including swans. We are lucky to have so many different species here in Ontario, Canada
Beautiful!
Lol…great video! I’ve never seen this.
We had a swan and goose combo. It was with the geese but it didn’t seem to be well accepted. I’ve not seen it this yr. I also saw what looked like a part white duck and sea gull. A hawk took interest. It too was among the geese.
Fantastic video!😲
Thanks! 😃
Beautiful birds 😊
Is it true they can break bones hitting others with their wings ??
No, not unless you have a condition that causes weak bones. They can give a very nasty bruise though and cause soft tissue injuries.
Didn’t realize swans were so territorial. Knew they could get mean, though.
They are Extremely Territorial ❤
Very very beautiful sharing friend new subscribe your friend 💞💞💞💞
Is that stanley park
No, it isn’t. I don’t know where that is.
Stanley Park is downtown Vancouver, Canada right on the ocean with nice lagoons. This video (I think) is from England .
@@abuelitacaicedo3185yes you’re correct, this is in England 😊
Just a wee note: they are Canada geese, not Canadians or Canadian geese. Thank you.
Not Canadian Geese - Canada Geese! Don’t really have nationalities!
I always call them Canadians, it gives them more personality ❤️
They have lots of personality without being called the wrong name. I liked your video and the message you were sending.
Love nature, so much human prattling not so much.
Your attracting the other birds into the swans territory, They Really Dont want the attention,Or the intrusion .If you want to believe the anthropology, fine, but ,.
The other birds live there all year round, it’s a mixed population with the swan pair, greylag geese, Canada geese, moorhens, coots, little grebes, mallards, tufted ducks, gadwalls, wigeons… always a very busy lake with birds. Nothing to do with anyone attracting them, they were there long before we were!
A beautiful video ❤😊 You are doing a good job 👍 Thank you very much. 🙏🙏🙏
This is so funny to me lol the way it literally runs on water and the geese know their in danger but stay in the water like it’s a game😂😂
One time a swan bit me but it was tickly and not sore and I was a toddler lol
did the swans get the rat
Wilma pecked it on the head but it’s been back as people keep throwing food on her nest 😔
@@reallifewiththecrazybirdla2660 not good
@@reallifewiththecrazybirdla2660 we have worse than rats on The Sankey canal , Mink
Mink here too, and otters.
That swan is craaaaaazy.
No, just very protective of his nest and partner. They mate for life.
