I love the authenticity of this channel and how it's a document of your coding journey, not just some internet freak showing us that he's typing on a keyboard
This is honestly true. When creating my programming language it gets overwhelming and I just want to give up 😩, but the rewarding feeling and the result I get is what makes me keep going 😄.
Programming is creativity! It's solving problems. It's making things happen! It's... Oh fuck, segfault! Programming sucks. It's the PM breathing down your neck. It's the bug you just can't figure out. It's... Oh, that pointer gets overwritten here! It's working! Programming is fun! It's awesome! We love it!
I saw that "workout" turn into "loaded_workout" Kalle! :D For those that are thinking what I'm on about, I wrote some advice to Kalle about optimising the app by pre-loading values so they display instantly! I assume this is what it was! Also - I'm curious to know how you will be doing Marketing for the pre-alpha release!
Isn’t showing his progress on YT and other platforms already marketing? He built his „following“ over the years and uses it to be part of his journey, inform them and keep them excited. There will be enough alpha testers willing to try the app out 📱
Haha yes!! Trying to implement it, but not sure if it will be pre-alpha or next iteration. Depends on if I can get it done quickly😉 Mostly right now the marketing is these videos and at the end of a couple I have asked people to email me if they’re interested. But I want to limit the amount of marketing for pre-alpha to avoid too much strain on the app and me to begin with, but already there are way too many pre-alpha signups for me to manage 😅
Coding is addicting. Period. It’s annoying, and you get frustrated, yet part of you knows you’re able to solve the problem, so you keep working until you get the satisfaction of no errors.
I would say coding is addicting if you know what your doing, because the constant feeling of pressure and stress of having assignments but having no idea what your doing is pain.
Been working for a company for two years now and I will say that working on a personal project and a business application is very different. Building your own projects is so much fun and you get to really steer your idea wherever you like. Working on a business application you’re a cog in a very big machine. You have little to no input and you can see a more efficient way to solve something but the higher ups say no. I think people need to be aware before taking a hobby into the professional world.
I love the problem solving... i know their is a solution and once i find it for a problem i've been working on for a few hours it gives me a weird endorphin rush

Thank you for your videos, they are fun to watch! You are right, coding is more about solving puzzles and problem-solving than math. And I find it quite creative. 🙌 I have one question: Do you listen to a special kind of music while coding?
@@LuisFelipe-gp7bo thanks for the reply. Is javascript mostly for interface of a website or can i also build an algorithm on a website with javascript?
I like to think that programming is just like being lost in Siberian taiga and trying to find the way by asking mute-deaf Russian. To find you a way you have to create a language that both you and the Russian understand. Anyway it’s an explanation from a French TV show about a hacker called “Stalk”
I miss the days when I still really enjoyed to program. Idk what happened to me. Like I still love problem solving and designing a solution but I hate the debugging, coming up with good naming, compiling, etc. parts of it which means I often just get that dopamine through coming up with the solution on paper and then not caring enough to actually try writing it.
@@shawnjames3242 Exactly, now the dopamine for each problem is lower and it's becoming less fun to just program. Making something else with it is still somewhat fun but usually I stop before I actually make something functional cause just figuring it out is somehow good enough for me :/
@@shawnjames3242 Sometimes my knowledge distracts me too much of actual work. I keep thinking "yea I remember that there is this software and maybe I should use it and there is this software which I also could use but then I can't do this with that, etc."
Possible theories, your dopamine levels are shot, or you just lost the enjoyment of doing it for whatever reason. Overall, I think instant gratification are making us all more lazy and making things not as fun.
I am just about to learn coding using python language, I used to learn java but I didn't like it too much, I am somehow disturbed by all the patterns stuff and best practices, and it appears to me creativity is limited by these kind of rules. By the way, Great video, I hope your app gets success!
The best way to learn is to think of a project you want to make, open a documentation of every statement in your programming language, and start coding. It stops you from getting burnt out on tutorials because you're working on something you actually want to do.
When, I took Business it seemed like no one cared but when, I say, I studied psychology, everyone pays attention. That’s not why, I took psychology though. I took it in high school but when, I was in my degree program, I didn’t have time so, I took it after.
Hey Kalle, great video, love the explanation and I agree with what you said. I just want to know, doesn't your neck hurt with your monitors so low? You don't have them at eyesight level, or are you use to that. Just saying, you might not be so tire if you raise them a little.
Hello, I would definitely like to get into the software industry later in my job and am therefore already trying to deal with the basics such as HTML, CSS, JS. But when I sit down at my PC, I automatically see my computer games and feel more like playing than learning to program. Is this normal or does it automatically show that programming doesn't appeal to me the way some others do?
it's normal. for me it's just about writing that first line of code of the day. after that I really just can't stop until I have achieved what I wanted to
Set up a local user on your PC with only access to things that will allow you to program. By getting rid of that ease of access it may help you keep focused.
Create a second session on your computer when you only have few work related programs icons displaying on the desktop and taskbar. That way, if you log into it, you would be on your "learning"' mode and would probably get less appealed by games
I’m honestly not sure to be completely honest, and with that pricetag I feel like I should be almost blown away by comfort haha So not sure if it’s a good choice over a more classic style office chair
Kalle can you share with us what are you doing to be productive i have staryed to learn programming but i am feeling that my passion is not the same passion when i was starting it starts down
As I saw the icon of the app and the launch screen was set to the default logo of Flutter... Is there gonna be a 'real ' logo soon? I would watch a video about it (when you make/desing the icon) in the future. Btw i love your videos, keep it up! Programming is bit boring watching from the outside but when you doing it, its soo cool and satisfying to actually build something from scratch.
Yeah it is fun as long as you are working for yourself or your own startup. BUT! Once you decide to work for a company, for a salary - totally different story here: 1) deadlines 2) dealing with "pesky" management daily 3) scrum, deployment automation - got to follow like religion 4) meetings and more meetings - sometimes boring and useless 5) daily report and responsibility to your developer team 6) expectations of you being an engineer not a "sh*t coder" or an eyebrow raiser 7) expectations of you being professional, constantly learning and being a leader in your chosen field Also the ugly stuff: - zero acknowledgement or appreciation no matter how hard you worked - being bashed for small mistakes and for not knowing things - being asked to work longer hours for no additional pay and no appreciation for that - stress, stress and more stress daily - and remember they hire quickly, but fire even quicker Now, once you have your rosy glasses off. Pursuit your dream!
Do you know what else looks really boring when you first look at it? READING BOOKS! So I think we can assume that appearances are really not everything.
To me, it’s the uselessness of the skill. Like, I learn languages and some people would be like, “Why do you want to spend more hours of studying for?” And “you know English.” It’s relating to people, culture, and my own heritage.
