I dont even know where to start with this level of gaslighting. Are people so uneducated about the long standing role of business in suppressing the dēmos that they'd actually come to believe that they are the solution instead of the problem? Universal sufferage came about in no small part because of the oppressive role business played in curtailing the rights of labour. Democracy literally exists to balance business (first the land owning class, then the capitalist class) in society, which unless said business is a co-op, is inherently undemocratic.
If you want to restore democracy, a good start would be to 1. remove business from the democratic process, and money out of politics 2. Change the system from FPTP - which is used by the UK a country that does not even have an elected upper chamber, and Belarus need i even say more about them - to a PR system. FPTP is what you use when you dont want real democracy but want to be able to pretend that you do at face value.
Edit: also pls do not conflate rule of law with democracy. Business has always used rule of law as a weapon against the dēmos to protect their interests - the police and judiciary were literally originally created to protect land owners from the dēmos who dared ask for more gruel - and fought tooth and nail to subvert democracy with undue political influence using their power and wealth.

The only way businesses can renew democarcy is by converting their businesses to co-op.
Business should stay out of politics
Easy to say, not going to happen because government interferes in business.
They write legislations to crush some industries while giving funding and tax breaks to others. example, gas vs electric vehicles.
They set safety standards they know will destroy smaller business to eliminate competitors of larger corporations. Example the banking sector which once has 1000s of different banks across America which is now monopolized by a few.
As long as the government can choose winners and loser in an economy, capitalists will have a reason to leverage and control this power to their benefit.
The only way to a constitutional amendment separating the free market from the state. The government should only be in charge adjudicating crimes and enforcing contracts. Setting trade policy. Setting blanket taxation levels to all. Dealing with military and local law enforcement.
But should never be able to fund one company over another. For more info on how this would work, check Ayn Rand.
It's impossible to get money out of politics, because there is too much to be gained from doing so.
But you can get politics out of money by reducing politicians ability to affect the economy, there by reducing peoples need to influence politicians.

Politics lay the ground for business ,so one can't ignore it.
1. By stopping bribing politicians to mold legislation in their favor.
2. Stop thwarting the formation of unions.
Remember that one of the slogans of fascism was nothing outside of the state. The use of commerce to punish dissidents is indeed a step in that direction.

Answer: plutocracy, or electoral aristocracy, or at the very least, oligarchy. One day of heavily-constrained, badly-disinformed "democracy" every 4 years.

It's not your job to fight disinformation, because you don't know if you're fighting disinformation or necessary criticism of the system.
You're in no position to say what the truth is.
If you believe you do, if you think it's your responsibility to protect the government from the people, you've set the course towards fascism.
In order to protect democracy against authoritarianism, you must protect free speech and open debates, also for those you believe are wrong in cause and facts.
Because they believe they are right just as much as you do. Neither you or them should be in a position to decide who gets to be "responsible" and protect anyone from the other.
If you believe you do, then you're the danger.

Would be interested in hearing a follow-up segment (or two) on how two points of concern might influence Ms Ballou-Aures' assertion that business leaders' participation in the political process are crucial to its survival. First, how do doctrines such as the Lewis Powell Memorandum, of 1972, square with her ideology? Second, if the hypothesis that sociopathic disorder is at least as prevalent as autism and such individuals tend to gravitate towards such highly disproportionate reward structures as are found in business enterprises, how do we mitigate their (sociopaths) impact on the shaping and influence of American - and global - politics such that we turn back from the precipice at which we find ourselves?
Ten thousand years of human history tells us that the default solution is always bloody...and growing more so with each iteration. Are we truly smarter than those who came before us or merely suffering from a bit too much collective narcissism?
Just seeing the title and i knew this was not gonna be something i agreed with... With business owners having a spectrum of beliefs ranging from idealistic to authoritarian or outright prejudiced, I don't think centralizing power further into the hands of the monetarily controlling class is a good idea. Musk himself regurgitated anti-semetic rhetoric on the platform he now owns... normalizing the fundamental problems we have with finances already governing politics (no pun intended) which unironically already harm a majority of people to benefit a minority of them, as well as further harming marginalized groups seems like the worst possible option.

Many of us Gen X grew our businesses and raised our children while also taking to the streets, working on political change through policy and through building alternative economic streams. Challenging corporate control.
My peers who went off to get MBAs belittled and actively undermined our efforts with ill-informed votes.

Please consider listening to the courageous leaders we already have and use your money and influence to uplift Indigenous Climate Action and other people who have not shied away from this obligation like my rich GenX cohort has chosen to do.
We need your money to go no strings attached to Indigenous Climate Action, green parties, Sunrise Movement, and in the US get behind grass roots democratic socialist candidates at all levels.
Stay out of politics as business people. Get involved as citizens.

Excuse me, do you know who profits from war? Businesses. These days its pretty much only businesses as borders are pretty much set and private businesses are the only ones capable of resource extraction under capitalism (lets get this straight here, "democracy" isnt the problem here, its capitalism).

Same is happening in India , we are at season 15, the grand finale. During Indian Independence, pro democracy business like Jamnalal Bajaj , Tatas helped strengthened Indian Democracy. But today all that is faltering. World should be made aware

American manufacturing failed when the corporate leadership switched to business school leadership from engineering driven.
I want to state this simply... Business can help democracy... But they won't... It's not in the best interest of their bottom line or their shareholders to do so... The end.
She makes the case for having a political ecology and critical theory education in undergrad - just figuring out now that institutions are fragile where social benefit and “democracy” is concerned?
Grateful for her example of organizing and what is necessary to build consensus on preserving rule of law.

It's funny how the notion in the comment section equals politics with democracy. Both are not the same. A business leader could tell their local and regional politicians based on internal company surveys how the people are feeling at this moment. Politicians could then implement the policies that lead to the right measures to improve conditions for as many parties as possible.
As of now, it's mostly just CEOs and SIGs (Special Interest Groups) threatening politicians with job losses in the country and that is certainly not democratic, but highly political. The people, that don't have any power in voting power democracy are in the economical lower class and children. CEOs could improve certain situations if they had any incentives to do so, which is not the case because cheap workforce is cheap workforce.

The USA was never a democracy in the first place. The word doesn't appear once in our founding documents.
So yeah, I live within five miles of the Capitol and on Jan 6th and I couldn’t hear/see anything. In fact , I’m not aware of any location outside of the district where this would be possible. The attempted coup was indeed horrible, but fibbing about this doesn’t help.
