Man I feel so bad for you guys! But I think it was a smart move to not let Swissbeatbox upload the video since this would cause lots of harm for your image!
Man this is tough. As a performing vocalist, the sound issues you described are the WORST. You feel so helpless. I respect your decision and im sorry you have to make it in the first place
We learned a lot from this, and we have no excuse but to use what we've learnt, and to do better next time. It's all about learning along the way. 😁 Also, big ups to SBX for organizing this massive event 🙏 To resume. Our objectif is to do shows. And we have not much videos online. This would have been our main video out there. Except, we can't show this to organizers and ask them to book us for shows since every vocal part was out of tune. We will do better next time. :)
I would have been absolutely livid-maybe even withdrawn from the competition right there at the soundcheck. You guys were clearly far more professional than I. Seems like SBX didn’t really understand how important their own event had become. Definitely no longer the case. But putting on a show like that with that many artists, that’s supposed to be on a professional level, is gonna be way more expensive. They will need to charge commensurately for tickets in the future.

The amount of work you had all put into that showcase to be undone by issues outside of your control is heartbreaking to hear. I hope SBX learns from this as it hurts their content as well - if beatboxers aren't able to perform at their best they won't draw in more people and interest will drop. With this simple explanation I think we could all understand your choice. To organize a big show without any failure is really difficult. And sometimes there is worst than sound problem, like speaker start a fire during concert, or crowd mouvement that deadly crushed people. Here it's "just" an artistic problem, but any failure of the organiser have to weigh on the artists. So too bad for this 6min in this particular event (who stay overall a super good show spread on 3 incredibles days), important is to maximize OUR chance to can see/hear YOU in lot of futures events!

Brez..... all I can say is don't worry about it I know you guys will bring it in the future and I wish you all the best and thank you sincerely for all the content so far. Scotland loves squib....respect
I was in an a cappella group for four years doing shows all over the states each weekend. The problem BreZ describes makes it impossible to lock in the sound. This is a HUGE problem and i'm so sorry you had to deal with that at GBB!
Yooo brez, I get you. It should be dissappointing when you sacrifice so much work time and money for something and I have been in situations like this before in my life. I get you and yeah I think its the right decision for you guys and you can come back even stronger since now you have worked with one another so much. Much love ❤️✌️
There is no need to worry about the voices of dissatisfaction. For many it is entertainment, but for you it is a kind of advertisement. It is logical that you will not advertise yourself with something that just sounds wrong. I was the lucky one to hear you live. Although on the one hand I was delighted, because it was my first GBB at any time, my heart aches, how many problems during the event were with its most important aspect - the sound itself. After all, I will be glad to be able to hear you and each one of you again in different categories, where you won't have to worry about the sound, but only enjoy the moment ♡
I'm very sorry that you guys are not releasing the video. I was looking forward to it, and even if I didn't agree with it, I just loved your performance. But now that you've told me why, I'm not complaining. I could see that you were serious about GBB. You don't pretend not to know what happened, you tell us what happened and why, and you give us your opinion. BreZ, this is what I really like about you.
That practice of more than a year and a half requires a dedication that not everyone has, that proves that you are more than incredible... you are S.Q.U.I.D!! That dedication is going to take you guys high!! ❤️
Thanks for all these explanations, very interesting to be able to see your performance from your perspective. Maybe could you upload a video of what the show should have been like in the first place?
When I watch it live I knew there was something wrong too sad on the outcome cause by the sound issues. Hope you compete again and get the bacon next year
Firstly, it is very unfortunate you had to go through this. I wonder if you could do your showcase as a shoutout for SBX, that way it may get the exposure you need. That was just an idea though I hope you will achieve greatness in your future endeavours.
Oh man i remember being really confused at gbb because many performances (especially the very musical ones with more than one person) were somewhat out of tune and at first i thought it was about those specific people just not being as good live on a big stage but at some point i suspected something with the monitoring... It was really sad because i feel like we were robbed of so many great performances and - as brez said - the artists were robbed of these great opportunities to show their skills... I get that this gbb was the first one of its size and organisational extent and everything but i really hope they will be better prepared for the next one... Amd much love to squid - i loved the wildcard and i would love to hear more
i feel so bad for you guys, people do be hating without hearing the hardship you guys have been through, for a year and a half, stopping jobs to meet each other, the money, the energy that has been worked for a year and a half had all been wasted, i respect each and every one of you, feel very bad man.
Hey Brez, Weighing in here from a professional events production perspective (and as a fellow a cappella artist). This is a complicated issue we struggle with on both sides of the hiring conversation. 1) As a festival organizer, I need to understand how an artist will sound like live under "show" conditions. This includes adapting to adverse sound conditions, something that can come up from a bunch of different sources. There's a huge amount of risk in booking a "fragile" artist, so something we evaluate when selecting artists is looking at how they sound in a few different venues. That's why we don't just book based on produced music videos - you can camouflage sound quality behind excellent production, and we need to know what we're buying LIVE. 2) As an artist who uses in-ears for performance, it took me YEARS to get used to the sound in them. AND I use professional IEM earbuds. AND I have a talented sound engineer with whom I've spent countless hours honing my mix and had 100+ shows to test things. It is REDICULUS to expect an artist to get on stage and use them for the first time at a 5-minute sound check. Alas, that's a recipe for failure, and watching your showcase live on-stream, I could immediately tell there was something off in your monitoring. HOWEVER, I have to give you HUGE props for how you handled yourselves - I've been on stage with artists who were far less professional with IEM issues, and you guys held it together like champs. Also, while your harmonies might have struggled, your overall performance was excellent, and I was hyped throughout! Here are some takeaways: 1) Rehearse in the monitoring situation you'll be using on stage. Rehearse in a bunch of different monitoring situations. Plan for ways to "check-in" and reset if things are starting to fall off the rails. That will make you a much more resilient group. 2) In Ear Monitors are a big investment, but worth it in the long term. However, they take a while to get used to, so if you're going down that path, leave a lot of runway before your show. 3) There's a lot of great content in your showcase! Include chunks of this video in your "highlight reel", alongside the rehearsal video for the opening sections - festival organizers also want to see you at your best. 4) You've got something special here, and we would love to see more! Let's continue the conversation about SING! Toronto by email. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment. Yeah I agree with everything you say. We've all already worked with in ear-monitoring but never together as a crew. If we had more experience with this it would have been "easier", but as said, 5min of soundcheck was really too harsh and it was almost impossible for us to find what could work out. I'd like to continue speaking with you about the festival but you haven't replied to my emails a few months ago 😅. Trying to reach here may be easier ? Haha
Wow, really interesting insights! Hope you can exchange together… would be happy to hear that Squid have opportunities to perform in festivals in the futur!
@@BreZBeatbox yes, my apologies. It’s been “on my list”, but the festival details have been in flux (thanks, COVID) for a while, and I’ve had to put it on the back burner. Now that things are a little more clear for us, I’ll continue our email thread, and hopefully find a way to make some awesome music happen in Toronto! Cheers!

Bro Tell sinjo to master and mix the part that was executed well and show that to organizers . Like the part 3:39 and let sbx upload your showcase with the name squid exclusive beatbox showcase clip or clip compilation .
If only these issues weren't happening all the time at the gbb, but your performance would've been amazing if the sound quality had improved. But it's obvious you guys will have better chances in the future and are at a high level already, just some more things to overcome.
Very understandable for you guys' reason. Really wish that SQUID will join next GBB and this problem won't happen again, so you guys can destroy the stage. I believe this is the same reason why the Razzones asked for their video to not be uploaded. Your target is not just winning a competition but much higher than that.
I KNOW WHAT YOU FEEL BRO.. we can understand yours reason.. i just remember a few years ago when MB14 and ELISSE perform in SHOWCASE and MB14 versus BART , the timer countown slowly not in normal time. So that situation make both of them must improve or freestyle beatbox to cover the worst timer ,, so i hope in the future GBB can learn and prepared more clearly and best of the best. thanks *cmiiw
It really sucks that, for the casual GBB viewer, all of what you are gets portrayed on a couple minutes on a video that will stay there for everyone to see, regardless of the context. I remember a round from Thai Son that didn't go as he wanted it to, and that's all people are gonna remember him by if they don't look for more, when the intended result was crazy good. So sorry to hear the conditions were this bad and glad the video got taken down then. You guys rock.
Complétement compréhensible, c'est bien différent d'une qualité de son passable, mais on adorerait vraiment avoir une video quand meme s'vous plait, ça serait gentil :)
super tough, definitely been there before! if y'all can find a way to get it professionally filmed, i'd happily throw some money at that - obviously not ideal without the audience but i think it'd still help you get booked!
I understand Brez. If that happens to me in a live stage I would start sweating, get more nervous and stop and cancel the video. Im a person of constant mistakes if that helps. One of my wildcards took me more then 50 attempts. Now imagine that happening in a live stage. 😰
Maybe you can record the showcase together and Sbx uploads it as a shoutout? That way it would get the attention it deserves, in high quality and you guys can use it to promote the crew to event organizers.

Brez..... all I can say is don't worry about it I know you guys will bring it in the future and I wish you all the best and thank you sincerely for all the content so far.
Huge respect, look forward to your next shows
There is no need to worry about the voices of dissatisfaction.
I subscribed for your hard work man!!!!!!
BreZ, this is what I really like about you.
thanks for the transparency man, It didn’t make sense to me previously why Y’all decided to get it unposted. Thanks for explaining.
That practice of more than a year and a half requires a dedication that not everyone has, that proves that you are more than incredible... you are S.Q.U.I.D!!
That dedication is going to take you guys high!! ❤️
When you think about the fact that the judges had over 20 minutes of sound check, each, for their showcases... it's ridiculously unfair.
say that to pepouni
@@hungngbumbum Yes, let me call him.
@@shira158 wait fr🤣
Pepouni will take at least 80$ from you for calling him
@@hisokabeatbox9053 uhhhh why need to call just dm that’s it
Thanks for all these explanations, very interesting to be able to see your performance from your perspective.
We love you bro. We love you SQUID !!! Esh !
Hey Brez,
Weighing in here from a professional events production perspective (and as a fellow a cappella artist).
Here are some takeaways:
1) Rehearse in the monitoring situation you'll be using on stage.
Cheers!
Very well said, and great insight!
Cheers!
You were not the only crew who had struggles based on that in-ear monitoring unfortunately :(
It just brought tears in my eyes because i am in the same situation right now where after giving it all at the mean time Everything goes in vain.
This is the most important video to make people understand that a lot is going on while putting on a great show and not everything goes on planned....
7:06 Me : This actually sounds good
Brez : Seriously ? 7:13
I hope you post your rehearsal video with SQUID because I'd love to watch the proper showcase :D
Bro Tell sinjo to master and mix the part that was executed well and show that to organizers .
Like the part 3:39 and let sbx upload your showcase with the name squid exclusive beatbox showcase clip or clip compilation .
I think many loopers also faced this problem I hope they speak up.
Thank you for making light of the situation.
Oh and btw, you look better without mustache
hope SBX find a way to fix this problem in the next GBB
As a Texan, I just love that you use "y'all" :D
If only these issues weren't happening all the time at the gbb, but your performance would've been amazing if the sound quality had improved. But it's obvious you guys will have better chances in the future and are at a high level already, just some more things to overcome.
Maybe you guys can upload that showcase recorded in studio?👉👈
Very understandable for you guys' reason. Really wish that SQUID will join next GBB and this problem won't happen again, so you guys can destroy the stage. I believe this is the same reason why the Razzones asked for their video to not be uploaded. Your target is not just winning a competition but much higher than that.
So much effort gone to waste, your guys work ethic is amazing though !!!!
Bro don’t lose hope
U guys will win the crew category next year
It really sucks that, for the casual GBB viewer, all of what you are gets portrayed on a couple minutes on a video that will stay there for everyone to see, regardless of the context.
I'm super into the honesty but still giving props to swiss.
I understand AND respect your decisions. Next year 🦑 def takes the gbb (if there are no sound system problems again ie)
respect and love from India
Great video!
C’est compréhensible 😬 force à vous
Respect and support, Your team do nothing wrong.
super tough, definitely been there before! if y'all can find a way to get it professionally filmed, i'd happily throw some money at that - obviously not ideal without the audience but i think it'd still help you get booked!
I understand Brez. If that happens to me in a live stage I would start sweating, get more nervous and stop and cancel the video. Im a person of constant mistakes if that helps. One of my wildcards took me more then 50 attempts. Now imagine that happening in a live stage. 😰
but when I watched you guys from the livestream, I thought you'll gonna won that crew category.
I've had this problem on stage before one time the sounds wernt in sync with the monitors and it was tragic
Yeah, that sucks, plain and simple. Sorry you guys had to go through that. Hopefully SBX learns from their mistakes.
I hope you will upload the version you recorded in the venue, because the showcase is awesome
Would it be possible to upload the clips from the rehearsal and the parts that went well from the event onto this channel maybe?
Man that sucks. I really waiting for that video cuz I likes your Showcase :/ big love 😊❤
P.M. your beard is so cool ! 😀 🧔
Maybe you can record the showcase together and Sbx uploads it as a shoutout? That way it would get the attention it deserves, in high quality and you guys can use it to promote the crew to event organizers.
