As people get older, we think about people that you're grateful that they lived during your lifetime. They touched your heart. Phil Collins is one of mine. His music helped me through some really hard times in my life. I'm an old lady now, but, when I listen to him now, it takes me back to a time when I was young, beautiful, full of life, love, and pain all at the same time. Thank you Phil Collins for being a part of my life. You will always have my heart.
your comment touches my heart: "a time when I was young, beautiful, full of life, love, and pain all at the same time" - i was always handsome enough and full of crazy energy - i never realized, how much easier things are, when you are like that - five years ago i got seriously ill for the first time and things changed drastically - now i´m under medication, which takes just too much of my energy, i have grown fat and my mind feels like it was dissolving slowly - i´m just 62, but i feel much older, i doesn´t feel to good... :-( i admit, i´m not a fan of phil´s singing (apart from his second voice things with peter gabriel, which i still like a lot), but for me, he always was an adorable drummer and has definitley a place in my heart also... :-) love and best wishes from germany
I remember the first time I heard his new album. Didn’t even know it existed. Was in my car, remember exactly where on the exact road, when I was bouncing along to You Can’t Hurry Love and realized...”Hey, this isn’t Diana Ross!” Phil has been important to me both as a member of Genesis and as a solo artist.
I've seen a lot of drummers in my life, but Phil Collins is/was the most smooth, fluid, and effortless drummer I have ever seen. He made it look easy. Love Phil and Genesis!
Phil spent WAY too much time listening to the british press, who are pretty vicious on just about everybody. He's got more money than he can possibly spend in ten lifetimes and can do what he wants, the 'poor me, some people don't think I'm cool' kind of wears thin fast. I don't know if its his way of trying to get people to feel sorry for him or whether he's manic depressive, but he's a grown man. After you are 20 who out there actually pays attention to 'whats cool' apart from the fashion industry (which he is very obviously not spending much time with).
At his peak he was very, very good. There have not been too many performers over the years who could drum, play keyboards, write songs and then sing them. Like him or loathe him he was a top notch artist.
Me too! I’m 54 I saw them on the mama tour 84-85 and again on the invisible touch tour 86-87 they gave the best show ever! Home by the sea number blew me away live!
"One of my favourite songs of all time" meaning not very much time when you begin with "I'm 19." HA HA! I have loved most of his music and the only reason I don't love it still is because I have listened to it so many times I have had to take a break.
Phil Collins was so much more than just his solo stuff .. The songs that he did with Genesis were awesome , and the drum work involved with his rock/fusion band Brand X, was absolutely amazing!

No matter if he don't play drums anymore or haters giving him crap for that, Phil Collins is still fantastic. I'm still proud that he's still my all time favorite artist.
Phil Collins is a gold member in the pantheon of great rock musicians. Amazing drummer, powerful and unique singer, brilliant song writer. His music and influence will endure as long as there is popular music. Thank you for so many wonderful memories Phil.
2 days until the 40 year anniversary of the release of In the Air Tonight. Phil Collins coming out of retirement would be a savior to the music industry
As a drummer of over 50 years of playing I am in aw of your talent, your feel for a number, it has encouraged me to keep on drumming and guess what? I am back where I started playing, The Shadows numbers and loving it, thanks again Phil. Denis Gilmore 'Drummer'
@user name nerve damage, his shitty drum set up and posture fucked up his back, shame, if he had better ergonomics on the kit he likely would still be able to play today
@user name look at the way his toms are set up, they're super high up with an extreme angle and the floor toms are really down low, it's far from ergonomic, that was one of the concerns they addressed when his son started playing his kit
a legend, as I was a boy I heard Collins' "Hurry I must be going" from sunrise till dawn. I slept with my phones on my ears and woke up with them on the next morning.....thanks. Phil, many fantastic memories
Not only is he an amazing drummer who influenced other drummers all over the world, he is also a magnificent singer. Listen to some of his live performances, they are just as clean and on spot as the studio records. Amazing, I wish I could sing like him.
Phil ,man you inspire me to the fullest,to come from the back seat of Peter Gabriel, take over the band and his job as a lead singer? ,And never miss a beat?! Com on people! Phil and genesis have been my hero s ever since I first heard ripples. I was hooked. I didn't know the Peter Gabriel stuff until I got into the back catalog. This was 1977. Have been a huge fan since. Of Steve ant Peter. And all of Tony Mike and Phil s solo work as well. This band.in all forms truly changed my life. I even named my second son Collin after Phil. Wish they could go on forever.
As the musician that he is, he defined a level of brilliance , which cannot be repeated...His versatility, creativeness and his solidity as a songwriter are simply second to none...This man is one of the very best
Phil, you are the Best ever. My favorite drummer. I played drums all my life and now in my 70' can't do it anymore , my wrist and knees are finished. wish you good Health.
His ex had a store in Vancouver Canada and his son went to school here, one thing we can tell you he is a very decent man Friendly down to earth AND and a monster talent TY
Absolute legend, fantastic singer and one of the very best drummers ever, great to actually listen to Phil talking about his work. Keep well Phil, we miss the shows.

💙2023 I miss you already Phil!🥺😢 A billion heartfelt thankyous for all you and Genesis have given us!!! Phil had zero crappy songs. Pop music isn't cool, it's popular. If it were supposed to be cool it would be called 'cool' music, and any cool music that became popular would subsequently become popular music, because it could no longer be cool music.
There's is no such thing as old music. There is just good music, bad music and mediocre music and it all subjective. One man's chicken dinner is another man's trash. But if you manage to write, track and release records that sell tens of millions of copies, there's a fair chance that you know what you're doing.
Well said. I used to 'hate' certain bands and musicians when I was younger, so I can admit now that it was mostly jealousy that they were popular and I wasn't. There are musicians whose approach to music I dislike, and that's just a matter of taste. I have the utmost respect for the amount of work, sacrifice, and personal risk that goes into music that I don't like, and sometimes I wind up liking a song or a body of work by an artist I might have disliked before. For example; to this day I'm not a fan of Sinead O'Connor's music, but I learned how to record and edit vocal tracks from the way that she works, and I can appreciate her professional ethic and no-nonsense, hands-on approach in the studio.
All time great his music evokes some great memories as I was growing up from the early genesis right thru to his solo stuff, top man and brilliant musician.
I was a member of the Genesis fan club. ID # 1039. lol....still remember. First time I heard the albums The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and A Trick Of The Tale I was hooked. Seen them many times.
Andrew Villanueva I saw him at Twickenham when Genesis reformed in 06 and the stadium was shaking, I can't tell you how insanely good he was. It was a gift for my now ex at the time but I think I enjoyed it more than her.
The body of work this man has produced is what ultimately put him as my favorite drummer. Brand X, 70’s Genesis, Marscape, Steve Hackett ‘Voyage of the Acolyte’, etc. pure mastery. 🐾
I can remember getting into Genesis as a teen like over 35 yrs ago lived them great music tobad they can't be younger and keep that music going but we all get old lol great guy Phil
You are loved Phil! Just like Genesis!💓 back in 1980 Santa Clara when I was 17,I had my Off the Wall and Michael Henderson and Phyllis Hyman albums. But that Spring I met my rocker stoner friends. I left my Boxing magazines and soul albums at home around the corner and walked to Mike's house in my white nike Cortez and Jordache jeans. Chocolate thai and rock albums were introduced. That's when I heard "Squonk" on his Seconds Out album, yes, album, for the first time and that was that!💓🚀 Love you,Phil! "Feel better!"
Phil, nobody can ever take it away from you Bro. Hey, I don’t play drums as well as I use to either but I’m happy I can still pull off, some smooth jazz.
I don't believe for a second he no longer plays the drums well, he's been a very under rated drummer for a long time and I'm sure he can still play his ass off!
binkwood well, maybe he's not that popular these days when talking about famous snd notorious drummers, but actually you can see at specialized magazines (like Modern Drummer, in this case); they have this sort of categories, with those called masters, and even among them those above the rest; well, Phil Collins has always been at the top, and when you see lists of the top 10 drummers in the history or rock: you bet he will be at those lists most of the time. Now, of course he may feel he doesn't play that good these days, but according to his very high standard that would mean that he's still a very good drummer next to a pretty big list of drummers from these days; but particularly on this case I think he's talking about playing not the drums, but as a singer, as a frontman, and that with a reunion of the complete Genesis band he would leave that place to Peter Gabriel as a singer; and yes, both are great at that, but with Gabriel was that part of the theatricality he brought to Genesis and made them famous for that.
Phil has had to tape drumsticks to his hands. He can't grip them due to nerve damage. He also has a numb foot and walks with a cane. His spinal cord is damaged and he would be crazy risking further damage by playing drums.
He can't play as well as he could and that isn't good enough for him. You can't expect a 65 year old to play as well as he did as a healthy 30 year old. Unless he's Buddy Rich
Honestly, Phil Collins has been praised as a drummer and one of the best in the business for decades. Sadly, he has sever nerve damage and can't do it anymore. Hell of a run though.
hey phil, you and and the guys from genesis are masters, adele, beyonce, and all the rest are not worthy of a wart on your asses! Every time I hear the albums, or see live versions of y'alls stuff, I can't help but get chills of the good kind!
Hey Nunov this is Phil Collins (secret account) I just wanted to thank you for your kind words. It's true Beyonce is not worthy...I was amazing! And I still am!
You referenced Beyonce? No wonder this generation is plagued by solo singers or untalented boy bands who rely on gimmicky footage to sell their latest songs. Eww How tacky.
George Master Oh yeah. Uncool since he performed at Live Aid and made an expensive media spectacle of himself for recognition. It's called arrogance. If you are truly talented and playing for the sole purpose of charity??? Who funded his hypocritical expensive Concorde, choppers, hotel expenses +++ to fuel his ego at both venues? He said in his own words he asked Robert if he could play with Led Lep? (It was labelled as a Led Zep reunion without Bonzo!) [Somehow he weaseled his way in with no proper rehearsal]. He then wrote his amazing autobiography. [Ok so we care?] To write via an editor to whinge about how shyte their Live Aid performance was and bitch about many - including Paul McCartney is pathetic. No wonder he is only known on YT as a drummer.
Any musician (or most people) would appreciate this person who morphed from this drummer/backing vocalist turned, front man for an icon band, singer, songwriter, producer, actor, Grammy winner, score writer...other than dancer, Mr. Collin has done it all at levels above and beyond.
I'll Always remember Phil as Prog Drummer in my Favorite band Genesis in their Classic Prog Era 1971'-1977' !! The "Pop" Genesis era and the other stuff ............. egh !
oh cmon..dont be like that. genesis lasted through EVERY decade and era. they had to put some progressive/pop/art rock in there. that was THE stuff at the time. they would have faded out if they didnt. shit like mama, home by the sea, tonight tonight tonight, brazilian, domino, that's all, and a ton more are fucking BRIILLIIANNTT songs
Can’t agree that he was one of the best drummers ever and I wouldn’t think that Phil would agree either but he was obviously a very good drummer and an amazing artist
how do you define the best drummer ever ? Its a subjective thing like saying who is the greatist guitarist in the world ? in reality theres no such person technically hes as good as any one else I’ve seen in the rock world

You never stopped being cool Phil.
Haters Gonna Hate.
Achromaniac they only hate because phil’s little finger has more cool than all these hater combined
Some are nasty to Phil collins and I don't know why Phil Collins is a brilliant drummer and great Singer .
Phil spent WAY too much time listening to the british press, who are pretty vicious on just about everybody. He's got more money than he can possibly spend in ten lifetimes and can do what he wants, the 'poor me, some people don't think I'm cool' kind of wears thin fast. Maybe people dislike Phil because he slagged punk rock off back in the day,he had and still does have a massive ego??????
@user name do some research of what Phil said about the sex pistols it may enlighten you.
At his peak he was very, very good. There have not been too many performers over the years who could drum, play keyboards, write songs and then sing them. Like him or loathe him he was a top notch artist.

You forgot, actor.

Aye. Phil on Brand X was just .. Get the Fuck from out of this world!
Agreed. I was watching 'Return of the Giant Hogweed' on here just a couple of days ago. Brilliant drummer
I wouldn't call it "amazing". It was good solid drumming though.

It kills me to see my heros age. To everything, there is a season.
Better to see them age than die, as a couple of my heroes (Prince, Bowie) did.

strange way of reasoning you have, that's exactly what I said
D. Carrara horrible isn't it, just remember the good days, drumming on the lamb and great singing on genesis and solo albums
So true. My childhood hero David Bowie lost in space. Gutted to this day

It's amazing how as much as Peter Gabriel had a huge solo career, his drummer in Genesis had an even bigger one.
Phil Collins is a nothing short of a Legend. While his Legacy will Live Love Infinitely~
Anyone that hates on Phil is hilariously absurd.
The man is incredibly talented - played for decades and has been freakishly successful.
Phil Collins had so many great songs and I'll never forget him on Live Aid and crossing the Atlantic by concord to play both London and Philadelphia.

binkwood well, maybe he's not that popular these days when talking about famous snd notorious drummers, but actually you can see at specialized magazines (like Modern Drummer, in this case); they have this sort of categories, with those called masters, and even among them those above the rest; well, Phil Collins has always been at the top, and when you see lists of the top 10 drummers in the history or rock: you bet he will be at those lists most of the time.
I agree with you. 😊
hey phil, you and and the guys from genesis are masters, adele, beyonce, and all the rest are not worthy of a wart on your asses!
You don't need to shit on artists to raise up an artist.
@@mikearchibald744 shit on em because they suck then
I NEVER thought of Phil was uncool!
George Master Yeah that I don't get either. Why do they say hes not cool!
@@kazabushy Paul McCartney looks like an old bitch and has little talent as a solo artist
@@michaelkatz4675 I guess that's why he is so stalked and so famous!
@@kazabushy Paul McCartney and his music both need some balls. His music sucks and he is like an old bitch -except, at least an old bitch has balls.
Such a relaxed, down to earth interview.
Mr. Collins in Brand X, check it out, it was his best drumming!
Phenomenal drumming. Many people have no idea the talent he had behind the drums.
@@jasonwilliams6005 he had ????
he stil hes it ive you can move your hands and arms than you can stil drum !!
Seeing Genesis in September, Covid permitting. Can’t wait. Nic Collins on drums.
Saw him in the late 70's early 80's when he was one badass drumming/singer for Genesis! Hell of a show.
Any musician (or most people) would appreciate this person who morphed from this drummer/backing vocalist turned, front man for an icon band, singer, songwriter, producer, actor, Grammy winner, score writer...other than dancer, Mr. Collin has done it all at levels above and beyond.
Sounds like he's saying "I don't care anymore"... Except in happier way 😁
Singer ??? Songwriter ??? DRUMMER.......first of all......and one of the best in the world !!!
Precious man,lovely ,I miss you too..love..
One of the best drummers of all time n my favorite drummer ever. Its good to see his son Collin following in his father's foot steps.!!!
Turn it on again!
Phil collins music always made my day
Phil I am 46 fan when I was 15 Lernde the drums no jacket iam a nanny know still love the drums thank u 4 the lessons 19 85 God bless
First class drummer. Just watch him at Live Aid analysing whole bands and dialling his tempo to suit them. A true master of his craft
Did he not balls it up with Led Zeppelin. Although Jimmy Page being off his face didn't help.
@@ashyclaret I don’t think there was any saving that set 😂
Absolute super star.
And grounded.
So rare.
Phil Collins you've always been cool to me! Absolute inspiration as both a drummer and songwriter

"Bubble Gum" Pop MTV stuff, I'm a Classic Prog guy at heart. It's the way it is ! : )
hes very self aware of his career. must be pretty grounded.
Phil seems to be a nice guy. His music has made a difference in who I have become.
I was very surprised to see the level of complexity Phil played drums and be able to sing while playing. Hats off.
Anyone that would dis Collins is simply jealous due to their own lack of success musically, Phil Collins is a LEGEND!!!
Phil is Great! I'm so glad to see him.
NOBODY was bigger in the mid 80's than Phil.
Yes we do miss you. 👍❤️🇨🇦
Can’t agree that he was one of the best drummers ever and I wouldn’t think that Phil would agree either but he was obviously a very good drummer and an amazing artist
how do you define the best drummer ever ? Its a subjective thing like saying who is the greatist guitarist in the world ? in reality theres no such person technically hes as good as any one else I’ve seen in the rock world
I love Phil. Thank you Phil.
Phil Collins is one of my idols for drumming and singing.
Phil rescued Genesis from a Peter Gabriel shaped hole, and did it marvellously. A Trick of the Tail is a superb album. Good old Phil.
He made me pick up a pair of sticks
