Blashill is the second longest tenured coach in the NHL, without a single winning season. No one should have tolerated a 4 and 20 collapse in the second half considering that is his normal pattern every losing season. Gerard Gallant was available last year and I kept my fingers crossed hoping that Stevie would take a shot at a coach that has done nothing but win everywhere he is gone p. You see what the Rangers have done since he’s come on board, they are pushing Tampa Bay for the best record in the east. Blashill has no business behind the bench and everyone knows it except him.

I love that Mac is doing these, he’s pretty spot on with his analysis. Anyone who is complaining about Larkin doesn’t understand hockey. You couldn’t ask for a better leader on that team. He’s a Diesel engine, you never see a lack of effort from him, even when the team is down those legs are going and he takes it upon himself and goes and buries one. I’d like to see a stat of how often Larkin scores when the team is losing badly, bet he’s on top of the team. That’s a leader, even when you’re down the work ethic is still there. Even Scotty Bowman used to say that a coach has a shelf life. That after a while, players tune the coach OUT. Scotty could motivate players. Look what he did with Sergei. Players were afraid of Scotty. But even Scotty knew when it was time for him to go. Players don't fear the coach anymore. They don't fear getting benched for performing bad. Stevie NEEDS to allow his coaches to do that sort of thing. But Blashill isn't the coach to do it. The players don't care anymore about what he has to say and LOT of it has to do with the fact that he coached MOST of these players while they were all in Grand Rapids together.....so professionally...in the NHL....they shortened that time that Scotty used to talk about because they were all working together in the AHL. The experiment is over....get him out of Detroit IF they ever want to make Detroit HOCKEYTOWN again.....I'd love it if D-Mac would respond to this comment :)

The early years of Yzerman’s career he was a 50 goal scorer, but once Scotty came an reorganized the team Stevie became more than a scorer. He became a more well rounded player. Understanding every aspect of the game. That’s what made him a great player and captain. Not his scoring. Give Larkin a break we all know what he is capable on the ice. His job as captain is to lead the team, not be the number one goal scorer. I have been saying for three years now that Blashill needs to go.

Larkin is a leader of the red wings and that is just sad bc there is no one else to step up and thats why it took forever to name a captain. If he was that great of a captain it wouldn't of taken forever to name him. Right now the wings are at a low and they probably will be for another 4 years until they can get something going. Bad moves in the office and trash picks makes a crap team.

1.) I was not in favor of Blashill coaching the team before the season started. For Yzerman to allow Blashill to stay and prove himself was only giving him a fair shake like redwings did for Dave Lewis after Bowman Retired. Maybe if the redwings have more depth at some of there lines I think they would be fine. To get 3-5 more veteran guys to fill out the roster would vastly improve the roster.
2.) Larkin might be one of the most gifted scorers the redwings have on the roster but when it comes to leadership I'm unsure he lives up to that role.

Hey D-Mac! You gonna make some turtle soup with that bat? I'm with you though. Larkin deserves to be here. I want to see a change in the coaching position. I wanted Quenneville in Detroit when he was released. At this point something needs shaken up. C'mon man!

The wings have too many guys who don't play fundamentally sound hockey. Haven't seen great defense in Detroit in years. They give up way too many penalties, SOG, turnovers and fast breaks. Being fundamentally sound would make this team, as it stands, a lot more consistently competitive. These blow out losses spell big trouble.

Special teams are still... HORRIBLE! Blashill can't just say "oh well, the special teams coaches suck again" he's got to be like... Screw it! I'll fix it myself! That's why he needs to go. Sorry, I like Blash as a person and I'm not rooting against the guy but... There's NO REASON the PP is that bad! Seider, Vrana, Larkin, Bert.... Come on! That being said.... Wait until after the season. We don't want to accidentally win with 5 games or so left and move down a draft slot.

I love this team and organization, but the fans can be pretty silly. The frustration is understandable, but I think this city should know better than to blame a player for the abysmal play. We heard it with Yzerman and Zetterberg as captain, now we're hearing it about Larkin. (I dont recall any Lidstrom heat)

Of all the people in a media position who talks about their teams... D-Mac is by FAR the most qualified. He knows what the hell he is talking about. Love these comments from people who don't. Folks Blashil is there for a reason. He's there being the bad guy and teaching these young guys how to play and be pros. This team is still too young to compete. They must develop. Soon as these young guys are ready for the next step a new voice will be there. Just relax and look at the big picture. It's coming.

  • @Marshall7302

i swear that Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi are the only 2 players really playing hockey. there's a few others that play along but whos names are heard in play by play but it seems they are dependent on one line to make plays... and hope the goaltending can cope with Nedeljkovic between the pipes. Just saying back to the basics.. passing catching passes.. not passing creating turnovers ... when the players have given up just because they didn't make the playoffs again.. its frustrating to watch, equally frustrating to watch the good players get sucked down. Is it coaching?... when i see so many missed passing attempts sometimes just sloppy plays... thats on some of the players to tighten that shit up. Big shake ups need to happen. but lets start finding the root problems. Lets see what the Y man makes in the next few months.

@@justinshavers4692 You got that right. I miss that puck possession. Sustained pressure in our defensive zone, can't clear, everybody floods one player, leaving the other players open, missed assignments. We'll flood a star player, leaving someone else open, and the player we leave open, gets a pass and scores on us. I'm tired of it.
