  • After doing this tutorial I've decided to relook at a couple of my processes, but getting survey grade datasets using multiple softwares gets pretty complicated especially when Trimble throughs a curveball in a software update like they just did. My only suggestion to those of you that are getting into this fast changing field is trust but verify. My WingtraOne datasets are unparalleled in reliability and accuracy. Due to the reliable workflows, I've been able to notice software changes occurring in WingtraHub(APC, Offset up, JXL, etc), Pix4D(geoidChanges), TBC(pointcloud Transformations), and the everchanging never reliable civil 3D. Hopefully this process will be useful to others. This process is evolving with every software update, and the more I use TBC the more I am starting to think its probably ok to keep using multiple software's because when one doesn't work you can use the other.
    Key notes for this process:
1.) TBC 5.81 as of 1/17/2023 does not transform point clouds using the import dialog. The work around is assign a grid projection-import then scale to ground.
2.) In a blank civil3d acad template leave units as feet to import grid tif image, then change insertion unit to us survey ft and then do the drawing settings as well to us survey feet. Then import points and landxml.
3.) Currently Cad does not scale DEM files int feet to usft. What that mean is that you can change all of you settings in a drawing and the DEM will not come in in the correct place, I suggest not using it until autodesk fixes the bug. The work around is to assign sf as coordinate after importing dem into cloud compare and then use the rasterize and contour comands to export a dxf of the desired contour interval. The contours can be imported, exploded and then used as breaklines or contours in a surface.
4.) Don't try to do a project using PPK only you will get burned, and 2 visual targets is all it takes to catch 90% of the unit errors most software will throw at you.
5.) Pray that your client doesn't have the deadline on software update day.
