I think the building is the perfect addition to the skyline for the 21st century. It compliments and does not detract from The Empire State Building or from any of the classic 20th century marvels in midtown. I fear that will change with the new J.P. Morgan building and Tower Fifth.

since the advent of structural engineering, along with the invention of steel that is mainly achieved by altering the carbon composition, along with iron allows to produce a much higher load carrying capacity. you have buildings where 99 percent of the load (mostly its weight) is supported by the latticework of the frame holding it, while grounded in concrete. so, virtually there is no load bearing walls or any need of them. see the eiffle tower. so you could have buildings that are see-thru, might as experiment with fabric if you like...
the world was flat before we built steel mills.... incredible piece of industrial achievement
