Referring to non-representational artists, he says,” their art didn’t represent the outside world ( whatever THAT means ) or take you to another place. It reinforced the fact that you're looking at a painting." Why does a non-representational piece reinforce the notion that you are'' looking at a painting'' any more than a ''realistic'' work by Andrew Wyeth or Edward Hopper or Winslow Homer or Norman Rockwell does ?
