    If you are average size - 5’ 9” or so, the Ford Transit is plenty wide without flairs. We put a 5’ wide by 6’ long bed with head and feet pointing to the walls (East-West). This is with an inch of foam and 1/4” plywood with fabric on the walls. After planning to do the capsules, I just couldn’t get comfortable with the cost vs benefit for the work.

    Very informative!
    In the PNW, it rains a lot! I prefer the window that opens upwards so you can still open your windows without the rain coming into the van.

    So lovely that US people talk in inches only on a global medium like the internet.... so useful for the rest of the world 😅

    Hi Jeff, great video. I do prefer the Vanspeed capsules for my sprinter 170 extended. However, I would like to install the artic tern windows, 300x 700 mm. (Internal blinds are 375x742 and the cut hole is 303x703). You indicated that Artic Tern’s are not possible. Could you please elaborate on that. I greatly appreciate it as I need to make my mind soon. Without having internal measurements or details of the capsules is very difficult to check. It also seems that there are some differences between those for 144 and 170/170 Ext. thanks a lot for your assistance.

      I don't know the exact cutout size of the Capsules, but they are made to fit the CRL Half Slider Bunk Windows. The cutout for these is 33" X 10". You could check with thevanmart.com but I don't think the Arctic Tern windows will work.

      Same interest - Capsules with arctic tern windows

    • @FS_STIG
      @FS_STIG 25 дней назад

      The knock off flares can't do the Arctic Terns, the Flarespace has cutout options for the Arctic Tern windows including the new flat window in a darker finish.

    Why not just use a "North / South" bed orientation (instead of East / West) and still get a full length bed but without the expense of the flares? I feel like a van looks much more stealthy for urban camping if it doesn't have flares. Thoughts?

  • @CJ30123

    The flares have to be the most absurdly priced thing in the van space.

      I agree. Its fiberglass. They should be carbon fiber for this price

    Are they both secured just with adhesive? Can they be bolted to the van?

    • @OurThrivingLife

      Capsules can be bolted, Flares cannot. The adhesive is plenty strong, though.

    What is the point of having capsules (in the white interior van) if the mattress does not go to the edge on either side. Your head and your feet are in the air. Also the person sleeping towards the back does not have enough space because the capsule does not come all the way to the rear of the van.

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  2 месяца назад

      A. The mattress DOES go edge to edge; and B. The opening is 48” wide, which is plenty of room for two people to sleep within the opening of the capsules.

    • @Photostoryhr
      @Photostoryhr 2 месяца назад

      @@OurThrivingLife Ok, it did not look like it did @6:00 on the right side. IMO 48" width is way too narrow for two people.

    no comparison on windows from CR Lawrence and Artic Turn, Van speed will lose sales just because of this. I am in Canada and we use windows from Wilderness Vans similar to Artic Turn, much better and more practical windows especially in Rain as the are louvered windows not sliders where the rain get s in.

    Flarespace comes in at $1799, not $2400... maybe your adding trim rings??

    • @OurThrivingLife

      $1,799 is for the ones with no window cutouts. The version with window cutouts are more.

      @@OurThrivingLife So Flarespare without windows: $1799 while Vanspeed without windows is $1799.90
      With windows the Flarespare is $2297 and the Vanspeed with windows is $2359.90.
      Flarespace with windows and trim rings is $2976 while Vanpseed with windows and trim kit is $4109
      You have window choices of 10x33 sliders, awnings and Arctic Tern windows, AMA sliders and Van Windows Direct with Flarespace, just CRL 10x33 sliders with Vanspeed
      Flarespace intergates well with bed systems from Flatline, Rigwell and others, Vanspeed does not.
      Flarespace doesn't charge taxes, Vanspeed does at $250+
      Flarespace charges $99 for shipping, Vanspeed charges $150
      Flarespace also offers a full depth flare as well, not seen or compared in the video

    Great Video! Any suggestion where to get these for other Vans?

  • @scottchassey66

    Thanks very much for the video- some great information! However, I'm wondering if the length measurements were a proper comparison given that the example with the Vanspeed Capsules was taken from a narrower point, higher up in the van since there was a mattress in place. I don't suppose you'd be willing to measure at the same location as you did for the Flarespace flares- across the bedframe and therefore at the very bottom of the flare/capsule? Or even better, to also measure a Flarespace set after the same thickness mattress is in place since this is a better measurement of usable space for a sleeper. Having the complete set of measurements (width at rear - bed platform height, width at front - bed platform height, width at rear - mattress height, and width at front - mattress height) for both products would be amazing! Thanks again!

    such a timely video for me. Just ordered a 144" sprinter and am considering if i can get away without adding a flare. I am 5'9" and I was considering adding only 1 flare on the passenger side, as i want the driver's side to be totally clean. Or . . .adding no flares and bumping out as much space as we can from the interior. I am guesstimating that one flare with a window on the passenger side will give me 2" - 3" of real length added which would be more than enough for me. (my wife is 5'2") Thoughts?

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  5 месяцев назад +1

      2-3" sounds about right. The Vanspeed Capsules would add about 4" on the passenger side, and 6" on the driver side, but I think they only sell them as a set.

    ok if i were to comment on the you tube title that came across my feed, length does matter. just saying, who to hell comes up with these titles, sounds like clickbait more and more. enjoy the length.
