    Totally learned something from this! Man....not sure if other builders know this stuff! Great video!

    Wow, you are progressing quickly! You just passed the other TH Build series I follow on youtube, Tiny Nest (Their link below)! Im building my own TINY tiny house (14') in MA, and hope to have it completed by 1/1/17 for a nation wide national parks tour, and to skip the New England winter. I too am a weatherization specialist (BPI-BA), who found the ultimate conservation goal to be a passivehaus/net-zero THOW. Thanks for being a great motivation. I've followed your channel for years, and really enjoy how informative, positive, and thorough all your videos are. Hopefully see you on your tour! E

      +Erik Lepito AWESOME, Erik! Best of luck with yours- excited to see it. Do please come see us when we're in NY/NJ. Thanks for the compliment on the speed- it's thanks to our friends and family!

    I have a question. From my understanding, the vapor control layer inside prevent the condensation cause by interior moisture, but why would you use open vapor layer outside will cause moisture from outside condense at the dew point ( either inside the insolation or behind it), which cause rot at the frame. Isn't vapor control means vapor don't diffuse through the wall ? why can't you put vapor barrier inside and outside the wall so you don't need to worry about vapor get into the wall at all?

      Putting plastic inside construction gets scary when you consider that water might leak in there at some point and never be able to get back out. Which would rot your wall for sure. Anywhere but Alaska or southern FL, you don't have enough vapor pressure to make anything so terrible happen. The important thing is to give your building assemblies drying potential. When they inevitably get wet, let them dry.

    It's great to see your progress. What kind of insulation did you use in the walls, and which windows did you go with?

      +59seank Rockwool, and simple R-5 double paned argon filled windows, Sean!

    Always awesome to see you doing your stuff, I am looking to get into home performance diagnostics. You mentioned the kitchen vent flapping, have you checked out the Broan Ecovent? it seals at the outside of the envelope air tight using a styrofoam ball.

      +Victor L. Cool, all our stuff is Broan, so that must be something new!

      Actually I used them in my last three houses over the last 10 years, most likely only available in certain markets. Google Broan EV100.

    Hi Corbett, thanks for sharing this build with the world! I was curious, since you mentioned in a previous video that you were not using any spray foam on the build, what did you use to insulate the space between the rough framing of the windows and the actual window frame? Did you just stuff Roxul in there and then tape? Thanks again! (I wish the tour came through Canada, would have loved to see the TinyLab!

      +lefty0mtl, since there really was no significant gap and because the insulating value of airsealing spray foam cans is arguable, we focused on acheiving a perfect airseal instead with Pro Clima tape from foursevenfive.com

      Apparently int. vapor barrier is meant for very cold climate. Matt risinger has a vid on it.

    • @HomePerformance
      @HomePerformance  5 лет назад

      It’s meant for airtightness, in any climate

      @@HomePerformance oh so it's just like the exterior one? where the vapor can be permeable? so you guys dont use any wrap that's just a "vapor barrier"? The way you set up the tiny lab is meant for any climate? Is the tiny house package on the website a detail plan of how you built the tiny lab?

      It’s actually vapor intelligent, but yes, 1 to 100 perms, or something of the kind. Vapor barriers that stop vapor are pretty dangerous anywhere that has seasons, because it’s always in the wrong place half of the year.
