Thinset between grate holder and spacer and drain will bond everything in place. Grout may be applied between the outside perimeter of the grate holder and tile.
Just so ya know, Mr Schluter was an actual tile guy also around the time you were probably in elementary school. I used Schluter for the first time about 20 years ago with their drainage mat on a second story pool deck on an 18 million dollar mansion back in the day in Naples Florida. Schluter could have patented their bonding flange drain had they so chose to do so. I’m using my first FloFX drain on a shower now. I ordered several.
Im stressed about my shower build. I watch tile coach a lot. He says you don't need a shower pan liner if you build your bed on a slab and then use liquid laticrete membrane. Whats your opinion?
Tile Coach is right. That's what you call a sealed system. The one with a pan liner is called water in/water out. FloFx has an adapter so you can use it in either one. Both systems are working very well, with the sealed one being the new trend.
Flofx and Schluter pre fab pans aren’t compatible. You have to use a schluter flange for their pans. Rss (revolutionary shower systems) offers pre formed pans with the cutout to fit flofx if you request it or if you use a schluter drain flange you can order a flofx grate conversion
i know it depends on the shower size, but if you only have a 2inch pipe stub out , no 3 piece drain already, how high would it need to be? i ask because some of the showerss only have a 1 piece drain already, no threads and was wondering in that case would i need to involve a plumber? these 1 piece drains are usually done in a recessed shower where no liner or waterproofing was ever done, so after i rip out tile and mud pack theres just a drain there thats glued. so if i adapt this drain approx how much pipe do i leave above concrete? or would i have to chip out some concrete? thanks
the "fleece" does nothing.... why does every youtuber that gets these free flofx drains to review always say the same thing? if you remove that white fleece the drain would work just fine.
I've watched a ton of shower build videos lately, and this had by far the best explanation of the FloFX drain. Thank you.
Thanks I appreciate the comment
Looks like the black abs is visible once the grate is in place
Does the black plastic grate holder get grouted into place?

Super helpful! Thanks for the video!
Just installed my first one and will use nothing else from now on. Great vid! Great product.

Awesome video thank you!!!!
Thanks for watching
Thank you for the video and explanation! For a DIY such as myself, would you recommend the Schluter foam shower pan + flo flex as good combination?

@@OBFTILE , I know this is an older post, but as you know, flofx made a new drain to fit schluter systems foam pans 👍
