  • What is the thoracic duct?
Describe the course of thoracic duct?
Name the areas not drained by thoracic duct?
What are the relations of thoracic duct ?
    What is aortic opening?
What is the beginning and termination of thoracic duct?
Why the thoracic duct is beaded in appearance?
    What is chylothorax?
Thoracic duct is the largest lymphatic vessel in the body.
    Length: about 45 cm/ 18 inches.
Extent: It extends from the upper part of the abdomen to the lower part of the neck.
It crosses the posterior and superior mediastinum.
Appearance: It has a beaded appearance due to the presence of numerous valves.
The thoracic duct drains the lymph from all the parts of body, except:
    1. Right of the head and neck
    2. Right upper limb
    3. Right of chest wall
    4. Right lung and right of heart
    5. Right surface of liver
These areas drain by the right lymphatic duct.
