But why leave ur life savings in the hands of another person…
Yeah, that's weird, why would she do that
Maybe listen to the whole story first???
Stupidity I'd never let my family touch my money
Because "you're supposed to be able to trust family" and this story is why you don't.
@@justroonhere there is no good reason let alone for a startup smh. Good for OP that he signed a document for the loan
Why would she give him her money with what she said about him in the beginning ? I get that he wanted to start a business and all, but still ...
who will give money to a person that never worked a day in his life
It's stupid. but i cant fault her as she really was a trusting sister to her family up until she found out that they are a bunch of greedy narcissists who wouldn't hesitate to betray her trust. One right thing she did though is she made him sign a contract before letting him borrow her money
OP is a doofus for giving her scummy brother access to her savings. Should've just wrote a check or something.
I feel so bad for OP. People wondering why they would be so trusting don’t understand the lasting effects of childhood and family trauma. Being used and abused feels normal and more comforting than being abandoned because at least when the abuse is going on you have hope something will change and you’ll be loved.
Important point!
Why are you paying your uncle? Your PARENTS took that “loan” not you, screw em, let them repay it and save yourself another financial loss.
No disrespect meant to OP but why would you trust someone with zero work experience to start a business, like even if that had gone one to happen the chances that it would do well seem awfully small to me
This is so freaking fake that it is funny!
Honestly, to give a loan to someone like that is borderline predatory. I mean, obviously he’s not a victim and I’m sure she’s not going to jack up interest, but you had to know he wouldn’t pay…
He's got no job or assets either. So, a lawsuit's pointless since he doesn't work or go to college at all.
Taking your brother to court is a sin?
Okay, so what about stealing 25k from your sibling to gamble it all?
That’s not a sin all of a sudden?
Actual braindead parents.
Exactly
Classic conservative hypocrisy 😂
@@notting2640 no that's not a conservative thing this is just an a****** thing
@@notting2640 Excuse me? Can you even explain that? Lemme guess: nah? You’re uneducated. The parents and brother actually sound like sick liberals, way too comfortable spending other peoples’ money.
@@notting2640Excuse me? Can you even explain that? Lemme guess: nah? The parents and brother actually sound like sick liberals, way too comfortable spending other peoples’ money.
So, the parents essentially parentified OP by having her discipline the brother, and when OP did so by teaching him one the most important lessons of life (ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES), they disowned her?
Sue their golden child to the ground and go no contact.
The parents say he's a young guy who made mistakes that he'll learn from, but how is he supposed to learn without consequences? Doing something really bad and having zero accountability isn't gonna teach him anything!
The smartest thing OP could have done, other than not let her brother have full access to the savings, would have been to open up a different account and moved the half she was willing to loan. That said it's better things happened like they did. She knows how terrible her parents and brother are and can move forward without them.
So glad OP has a lawyer friend. This could have been so much worse
Why give him your savings? Write him a check and demand he pay it back latwr with a contract like he did.
Love really makes you blind. 12 seconds into this I was like "why the hell would you ever think a bum who has never worked be able to start a business?"
Very little sympathy for OP, you know your brothers a loser but you still gave him access to $25k
It's really funny that they are trying to set a narrative and lie to the family after settlement, where the family can easily fact check everything.
Op should've include another 5K in the settlement for all the stress they caused.
The Narcs would have probably accused her of being greedy and double down in their beliefs
And for the court fees
She shouldn't even be paying the uncle back since it went to the brother's education instead and he knew about it.
Holy fucking shit. Why do people keep staying in contact with their horrible family? Just because they are "blood" doesn't mean you need to stay in contact with them, if they're acting like complete turds. Once you learn to let people go and detach, what and who ever relative etc they might be, then your life will get so much easier when you know that you got a backbone and won't take any kind of toxic behavior from anyone.
To me it doesn't matter who the fuck they are, relative or not, but if ya go toxic on me or do any shit towards me willingly, then they're gone from my life. I will not deal with bs.
Easy for you to say because you have the experience to know the difference. Have some empathy and shame when you talk down on people
@@Hybrid626the ones who tend to whine about “muh family” tend to 1) be toxic family members feeling called out or 2) haven’t experienced a toxic familial relationship, so they get mad when someone abandons their blood relatives, often downplaying the issues and going so far as to gaslight them and justify the abuse. I’m assuming you are one of the two types of
@@IceJJFishArchive this is the internet. Of course you’re gonna assume and don’t do the decent human thing by having empathy. You’re just as cringe as the next keyboard warrior lol
This is the internet. Stop attacking and start helping for a change
@@Hybrid626 the ones who have empathy for victims of narcissistic abuse dont spew the “muh family” nonsense and try to force a child to get back with abusive family members. I have empathy because i was very close to cutting off my family for their mistreatment of me for years, but fortunately it’s gotten better with therapy and setting boundaries. I feel for people like OP because i had similar experiences
@@Hybrid626 the ones who lack empathy, as i stated before, tend to be the ones who never experienced toxic familial dynamics or are the ones causing that toxicity, who shame and guilt a victim of mistreatment and abuse for leaving family members who treated them like an outsider for years but want the victim to set that aside for “muh family”, selfishness and greed
to the poeple calling OP a doofus or stupid do you not have certain family members that you love with you all your heart and trust with your life? like how lonely are you?
How stupid are you that you leave your literal life savings with someone? If you’re that gullible you should either post your credit card since we promise we won’t use it or grow up lmao
You can love somebody and still recognise they have flaws, i think its weird to posit that love for someone means you see them as perfect and incapable of affecting others negatively
That's not what theyre saying @toaster19_32
The man-blob on the couch who's gonna be Rich Some Day (while never stopping his goddamn video games) is not just a freaking cliche, he's also a bad financial risk - even if he is related to you.
Title needs to be changed to “Gave my jobless unprincipled brother unlimited access to my savings account and am somehow shocked he spent it all”
Op does something dumb, and something bad happens. Do people never learn?
Apparently Not
Remember people, you can trust someone with your life, but never fully trust anyone with your money.
$25,000 is nothing to start an electronics store!!
Perhaps, the friends also contributed with the investment
Ohh!! That's so nice that the brother went home to Mummy and Daddy 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is why you always have a contract
Brother is a Golden Child and has to learn how the world works soon. This is a painful lesson that he will blame the world for but is much needed
Obviously OP is in the right & the parents are absolutely terrible but why hand over your life savings to someone else? That’s so incredibly risky….
golden child
its not a golden child but pain in the ass child, they just try to satisfy him to keep him quit
Good for OP
Well atleast OP has smart friends who let her sign aggreement !!
And who dafak gives credit card with all their Savings to someone who is already so irresponsible. !!
Now sue for emotional distress!
What a sad story. Kind-hearted people make the world a better place. She sounds like she’s in a good position now though.
This literally happened to my Mother..... But my parents were toooooo kind to put them in jail... That's why I don't trust my parent's judgement .
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes 🤷🏼♀️ I have no sympathy for OP's brother and parents.
Honestly
Everyone's an idiot here.
Op for basically blindly giving up money like that.
And of course the brother for all his crap.
Also, how can OP be so stupid?
I don't have a brother who is so awful, and I would NEVER just give my siblings unfettered access to my money.
Just a piece of advice to anyone who might be reading, don't do what OP did at the start here. If you're giving someone a loan, give them the loan. Don't give them access to all your finances. Also don't loan any amount of money you're not comfortable potentially losing completely. If you wouldn't gift someone $1000, don't loan them $1000.
I'm sorry, but op is an idiot for letting her brother have access to ALL of her life savings instead of just giving him the specific amount of money they agreed on.
But I am glad op was able to get her money back, and got a restraining order (definitely seemed like her immediate family, especially the brother, were going to become more of a danger to her).
Best wishes to op though. She made a mistake (a GINORMOUS one), but had good intentions. I'm happy she stood up for herself and had a good friend to help her out.
OP is very stupid. Not in the wrong just very stupid
Okay, so shame on the brother, but why'd you give him access to the account? You should have given him the money instead.
Family loyalty is overrated and this is an example. Don’t borrow or let others have free rain to your money and savings.
This channel doesn't post full stories, it's not worth listening to anymore.
Well I mean to be honest at some point you have to blame yourself because who gives their life savings over like that
Another classic "Do it for Dan" story
The one thing I would have put into place is to turn on notifications for the bank balance.
If this was in the past 10-12 years or so she could have enables email or txt notifications on withdrawals or to warn when the balance is lower than a certain amount.
My checking account is at an online-only account that has this feature AND I have a savings account at a tiny credit union that also has this feature so there is no excuse…
Once again, another case of child favouritism.
Story is AÍ generated
You can't squeeze money from a looser.
Well done!
So out of curiosity, what would happen if the brother just decided to create an LLC or company or something and added OP as a partner even though the company was worth nothing. Would this be a legal loophole to not be able to get sued?
he would still get smashed in court.
I hate to "victim blame" but Op basically did this to himself. May as well just flushed every dollar down the drain. That was stupid.
I can't believe she actually such person
I don’t live alone, I live with my parents, for the year I worked on minimum wage here (€10) I ended with around €9k in savings so €25k for 8 years seems a bit low to me, but I haven’t gone out to live on my own
