I'd like to present this video about Andrew Huang - I've been a fan of his work for quite some time, and I was recently able to sit down with him to chat about things related to his career as a musician, youtube personality, and some of his thoughts on being a musician in this day and age. A huge thank you to him for the special hang!

Thank you so much Nahre for this video! It's a real honor to have someone of your talents take an interest in my work and process. Looking forward to many more hangs. :)
You deserve it dude, your videos are so inspiring
Sup Andrew!!
I believe "masterful" is a great descriptor for you both. Looking forward to seeing the results of more hangs AND maybe even a collaboration??
Must be dream like, to play a mini moog in a almost completely white room, :) I’ll be locked in there for 72 hours straight just playing it
Nahre and you are both amazing musicians
Fantastic! I love the fact that Andrew is so fun and creative but also clearly a pretty deep thinker about what he does and his role in the music world. Every video of his reminds me of the importance of purely taking pleasure from creativity. I love the new paths the internet is opening up, where we're free from old restrictions and concepts of how things 'have to be'. Great video Nahre! (and thanks for including me in the montage at the start!)
12:15 I know it wasn't at all what you intended, but that hit me hard...
I'm 54, and I've been an amateur musician (guitar, bass, a very small amount of keys) for over 40 years...I watched the industry change from the old "big label" machine, where the record companies decided who got to be a successful musician, into today's "anyone can do it" mentality...I watched the technology grow and change, and I spent (and wasted) a lot of years believing that the growth of computers, synths, and eventually the internet, were stifling true creativity and creating artificial talents...
I was wrong, and people like Andrew Huang (and many others) are proving themselves to me to be incredibly talented, creative, and hard-working musicians who are making vital contributions to the landscape of "music" and also transforming it in ways I never imagined...
Today, I find myself exploring much of what your generation grew up with (and possibly take for granted)...I'm learning how to record through a DAW, I'm starting to delve into soft-synths and programming loops and beats (look at me with the words) and I'm constantly amazed at what is possible, and how the tools now at virtually everybody's disposal can enhance even the barest germ of an idea...
Are you lucky to be a member of this generation? You bet your ass you are...but at the same time I truly hope that you are aware of, and have respect and appreciation for, those who came before you, and also understand how much harder it was then than it is now...
I'm 55 and I'm in exactly the same place. played guitar for about 45 years. learned piano as a kid, but basically "forgot" all my theory (I'm working on that thanks to folks like Rick Beato, Adam Nealy, and many others!). The tools we have available now are letting me experiment with creativity in ways I never could before. And I'm having more fun that I could imagine was possible while dressed!
appreciative boomer moment
very cool
thanks boomer
As a relatively young musician (21) who works out of a DAW with lots of loops, beats, and soft synths, it really makes my day seeing older people embrace the new technology and having fun with it
cheers to you mate
I can’t believe all the hard work you put in to your videos and this one in particular. You inspire me every time, and so does Andrew.
How are u not verified yet?
That procrastination trick blew my mind.
I had to write that one down.
This is not just two inspiring musicians, but two amazing role models
The procrastination context switch is so important to keep productivity up over time and not get locked into excessive tweaking.
It's really refreshing to pop into another project, or sample selection/creation, and then go back to writing a synth line rather than get lost in the loop of adjustments.
He is fantastic
omg legends supporting legends i love this!!!!!!!!
Thanks to RUclips introducing me to Nahre Sol and Rick Beato and Adam Neely and David Bruce, and now you're introducing me to Andrew Huang (1.6 million subscribers and I never knew!) we see there is an increasingly densely populated firmament of talented and inspiring auteurs.
I am so glad that your discussion brought Andrew around to discussing the discipline of how he gets work done. I especially like the bigger background project as a procrastinator to inspire all the other 'smaller' but in fact more significant works - because it can really become a time sink - I have to try to build discipline to limit time spent on all these inspirational influences, and spend time developing my own competence.
Thanks for the new influences. And please, more on self-discipline!
It was in fact 'Be Safe' PSA - ruclips.net/video/jUWTGBaWXnM/видео.html - that first introduced me to Andrew Huang. Funnily enough, I can't seem to find it on his main channel. It _is_ pretty odd TBF, but 100% brilliant nonetheless.
@@DodgyDaveGTX Many people found him through Pink Fluffy Unicorns.
Such a creative and meaningful way to give valuable insights into the new dawn of the music world through depicting continuous change in people’s perception and approach in music. Amazing interview (questions and responses are mind-expanding and worth thinking) and tribute idea (it would be a magnificent starting point for creating new series!) and I can’t wait to watch the whole video! It’s great that your videos approach all genres/styles and perspectives in music from the equal distance. In today’s world, our music cognition has been shaped by open-minded musicians/educators like you and Andrew Huang and I am sure that if you would live in Renaissance era, the end results would be so brilliant as well, however, you chose to try the difficult path in which you enlighten the new generation’s direction in music. You are the new vanguards who will represent the music of the future and I want to thank you for taking this precious, challenging role and recreating this Renaissance atmosphere for us in this day and age in order to enhance the world’s music cognition! Great content! Thank you for the open-mindedness you demonstrate all the time! It’s great that as a classically trained artist, you try to define the role of your artistry and lead your community to reach a bright future as well! I hope the so-called crisis in Classical Music can be overcome by vanguards like you Nahre! Thank you for this influence! Have a great day and week and hope you can eventually spread your valuable vision throughout the entire globe and people can have the necessary encouragement to question traditions and change their perspective on everything! 😊 As one and only Debussy said in one of my all-time favorite quotes: “I love music passionately. And because I love it, I try to free it from barren traditions that stifle it.” Thank you Nahre and thank you Andrew! 😊 P.S. Great Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara once said: "If an artist is not a modernist when he is young, he has no heart. And if he is a modernist when he is old, he has no brain." I really wonder your opinions about this interesting quote. Thanks in advance! 🙌🧠🎶
Woah, Nahre! You did a hell of a good job. I loved it from start to end~
It's incredibly refreshing seeing all the youtubers I subscribe to being mentioned on your channel!
Ahhhh! My two favourite musicians on youtube! Amazing interview, thanks Nahre!
Thank you so much for this video interviewing Andrew Huang. I have recently discovered your videos and found Andrew about a year ago-I can’t get enough! His ideas are so creative and his videos are unique (as are yours). Take care and thanks again!
A legendary video... i will download it, watch it over and over again from time to time. Amazing piece. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this wonderful video essay! I have been following Andrew for a while and this was a very insightful look at his creative process and philosophy. Really great questions and conversation. I also recently discovered your channel and I have been enjoying everything you do, I hope I can catch one of your concerts in Toronto soon!
We live in truly wonderful times. Passion, Authenticity and Work Ethic will win out every time. Both Nahre and Andrew have this in spades.
This is great - Andrew is one of my biggest inspirations, and while he's obviously very open to talking about his process on his channel, it's awesome having you asking insightful questions from an outside perspective to really dig into that creative philosophy stuff.
Finally got around to this video! Sooooo gooood!!!
Thanks for this video Nahre 😊. Both you and Andrew are a big inspiration for my music. Love to both of you 😉
Amazing character radiates from both of you, and I am so thankful to have access to videos such as these. The fact you and Andrew both share the holistic optimism about music's is inspiring, awesome. Thank you for sharing!
Andrew's musicality AND organization skills are very inspiring to me. I'd never think about planning for my own procrastination to be productive. Thank you Nahre for the quality content. Just subscribed! :)
by far my two favorite youtubers right here!!! Nahre got me into the Reface CP and Andrew got me into Arturia gear! Now I've got a new addiction to blame the both of you on!
Wow! Two of my favourite RUclipsrs in the same video. Fascinating and insightful and entertaining from start to finish! :-)
*WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY*
I scrolled down, read this comment and went "I don't get it" and literally then got to this part.
Yes? I feel so confused right now.
Scrolled down here and was about to comment that haha
@beepeeb clickcilc oh ok
Came here to see if anyone caught this.
I was not disappointed!
Andrew has been a consistent inspiration for me as long as I've known of him (since back in the original songstowearpantsto.com days!), so this is a fascinating look at some new parts of his process. Thanks for sharing, subscribed!
Didn't know about him, but immediately subbed right after this video. Some real cool content there!
Very interesting video! Love the intro. Andrew Huang's channel is full of great inspirational content!
I love this musician youtubers scene. It's a real music scene like hardcore, metal, rap, etc... where people eventually cross with each other, but instead of sharing the stage, tour together or support the peers in the concerts you do it on youtube with videos or comments in eachother's channels. Really cool!
So much to be gained from this, thanks so much for this video Nahre and Andrew!
The cream always rises to the top!!
Nahre, Andrew, Aimee, Rick, Adam, Paul, Mary, Samurai and so many more - always lots to learn from you guys & girls
Great to see the collaboration as well!
Thanks for doing this video! You’re both terrific!
cool! i've only seen a few of his vids - you've opened my eyes to his variety/eclecticism. what an inspiring dude
Two of the artists I admire most in one video, quite a pleasant surprise!
Hi Nahre, lovely video and great interview, I've been a huge fan of your you tube channel for about a year now. I'm very much a huge fan of you and David Bruce's channel and Adam Neely's channel and now I'll definitely be checking out Andrew Huang's work. The video that followed this on my feed was your piece on performing and practicing which I also took a lot from when it came out. I then went and watched your piece on negative comments on you tube which deeply saddened me as its did many of your ardent followers I imagine. I would love to see the experimental and improvisational work that you and your friend performed at that time that you mentioned in this video that didn't make it back onto you tube - I think with time and temperance all the 'commenters' may have gone and the people remaining will be the true followers who are receptive and keen to see this work and enjoy it as we have everything else you have released. Please consider re-posting. Thanks in advance and I remain a humble and constant fan of your wonderful work.
I've watched this before, but I'm just now realizing how great an interviewer you are. Given how much you've explored into different styles of music, it would be really cool to see you interview many different youtube musicians, and other industry experts.
Love your editing of this! Great interview 😊
Lol 9 minutes into it I went to click the thumbs up button and realized I had already done it
Love the video. We need more people who take time to be honest with themselves here, like you two.
I wish RUclips recommended this video sooner! Awesome video! Thank you!
Hey thanks Nahre for introducing me to Andrew Huang. He's a very talented multiinstumentalist and the amount of work involved in creating videos with the many edits and the blending of ideas is sometimes mindboggling. But little by little I guess. Hoping to win the lottery some day so I can afford the many tools I need like Andrew to create such cool ideas. That's my way of saying I'm retired and broke. hahaha The emmergence of the digital age has made it even harder for musicians to do a total work these days. Just when you think you have what you need to make a great project in comes a new product to make it even harder to make a completed work. Yes the creation of Halographic interface is the next level. haha Good luck with that...
this is so awesome :D I love that you two know one another and get to hang out :3
Love this video! Great interview! :)
This was so good. Amazing editing, and really good interview. I need more of these videos :O
Loved this interview. Nahre and Andrew are both excellent content producers on RUclips and I don't think I've seen anyone one RUclips work as hard or with as much of a positive attitude as Andrew Huang. I may not agree with every direction with which he takes a track but it's always interesting and creative and his music has really helped expand my ideas of what music can be and I'm almost always inspired by something in every video that he makes.
Nahre this was very kind and I think Andrew deserves it so thank you for putting so much goodness out there.
Such a beautiful and deep video. Thank you both! :)
Lovely video! You ask excellent questions that inspire great answers from an interesting musician. Keep it up!
i still wonder: does Huang do it all by himself?? I feel like he HAS to have an editor or videographer. If not, then he has my ultimate props (and some worries for his health because he is seriously busy!).
It is completely amazing how he has so much work, lighting, editing for RUclips, making everything look and sound nice - and still has time to be that creative to create stunning projects. If I have a lot of work, there is almost no free space in my head to think a lot outside boxes and be very creative.
Yeah not just the music, the videography is full effort all the way.
haha very late reply here, but he previously mentioned that he got an editor, but he still helps with the editing. He is his own videographer, as far as i know. I don't think he has any health problems, because of the way he works, for example like he said in the video, he has so many different genres and videos to work on at once that are so entirely different, that he will never get tired or burnt out by one project. Also he seems like one tough and smart dude, who can multitask really well and handle stressful situations like it's nothing. Of course, this could just be a shell, and he actually has some health problems, but i don't think so.
so inspiring every time, both of you. thank you!!! 🎶
Thanks. I've seen his stuff around but thanks for the interview. Will pay more attention.
i've loved watchin andrew grow from some kid on the internet making songs based on people's prompts, to this music wizard sensei imparting his skill and wisdom onto the web, or as mr bill put it "big boss andrew huang"
Had only seen a few of his videos before, this was an awesome introduction!
Andrew Huang’s ‘Learn music theory in half an hour’ is still one of my favorites. Nahre, thanks for sharing your musical world with us. ❤
I used to not watch Andrew Huang, just because I wasn’t really into music technology and electronic/experimental stuff. Though, I definitely thank you for making this video. I realize he is a musician just doing what he loves, and it’s pretty awesome. Thanks!!
Hanging out with Huang, nice Nahre Sol. Groovy to see musically adventurous explorers sharing the wonder. To infinity and beyond Nahre Sol.
This is an incredible portrait of someone who is easily one of the biggest influences for such a wide spectrum of musicians and music enthusiasts
Nahre, you and Andrew both inspire me and I’m a guitar player!
Idk what it is but i just love the production and editing. Feels like a mini doc or tv interview 🙌🏻
you both are my inspiration! thanks for the video Nahre
Two of my favorite youtubers!!
Andrew is a musical human that has evolved into his ultimate form. It's very inspiring!
Loved this interview, it was very interesting, it could go longer.
So happy about this videoooo,!!
Colourful experiments with life sounds creating music. The multiple projects with multiple layers make for some sweet ideas and results. Being brave enough to share what may be seen as practice rather than everything being polished is something I enjoy in other's work, my own I am ever critical and can hear such clumsiness it is less easy to enjoy but I do it anyway. Great questions Nahre. Art for art's sake or art for originality from inspiration and for commercialism. A fine balancing act to keep it real and marketable. The power of optimism to inspire yourselves is something I admire. Thank you.
Edited for grammar...I never notice my writing mistakes until I post.
Man, i first heard one of his electro/dance songs on another youtube video and the creators of the video selected it out of a public youtube pool of songs so I spent a whole day looking for the song lol. Awesome to hear his process in this interview!
The product is the practice is the most important thing I have heard in a long time
Great quote on purposefully having a big, daunting project to procrastinate on to make it more motivating and easier to work on smaller projects. I like this guy, smart. :)
8:38 Nahre sol, That question you asked is genius!! It goes in all forms of art, whether it's a book or painting, movement, music..all are meant to be shared. Really loved all the free content you're sharing 😁
My two favorite people! Ugh love you guys!!
Love the coordinated clothing! (And the video, of course)
Everything Andrew said spoke to me. My big takeaways are: Everything is a product and a process, He is usually procrastinating from a big project with smaller projects, so they seem like breaks, not work. Bravo!!!!! Everything you produce ignites and inspires me
I wonder what sort of music Bach would create, if he lived today - with all these possibilities and inspirations. His music from 300 years ago is still so modern. And I'm a big fan of both Nahre Sol and Andrew Huang. Great video!
WOW I LOVE YOUR AESTHETICS!
great video 👍🏽
He's a pretty articulate guy. It was interesting hearing about his process.
Great video, thanks for sharing
Great interview. I just wish it was longer.
sharing the process, taking down the wall on the struggle to make things (like the secret that even andrew has procrastination projects he avoids) is such an enlightenment from my teens (pre internet) thinking i was the only person that struggled with the music process so much and so it’s my fault.
12:14 This is what I agree with. Where the tools of today make it so much more possible to do music and art the way you want, you produce it. You may choose to do what you think or know what other people would like to hear and see, but there is an option for exposure regardless. So I tend to disagree when people talk about how young artists are not doing interesting, or complex music today.
Very insightful, thank you!
Sub'd to both of you already and well versed in your respective musical approaches and talents (as you've chosen to share so far). I used to think I was a clever bugger ... now I'm just another student, learning another level of clever. Thanks and cheers to you both. $0.02
One awesome person interviewing another awesome person. That's kind of awesome.
Really good interview.
great video.. so true.. everything that you do as an artist takes forever to perfect and release... yt has given a whole new platform for creators. Not that making videos is easy, it's just a different thing than the actual content. But all these videos are incredibly hard to do!
Good interview
Beautiful video.
3:00 I don't call this procrastination, I call this being a volcano of productivity.
I know andrew is already a pretty big youtuber but i still dont think he gets enough credit for his devotion, hardwork and creativity. To be such an influence on me as an aspiring musician/producer, i can imagine he inspires and motivates hundreds of thousands of people.
Andrew is an inspirational artist and a nice bloke.
Procrastinating on your projects with another project is something I've found to be helpful with my own progression as a composer, even as one who isn't a professional and is just composing purely for fun. It's an easy way to make sure I'm always writing, even when I'm not really feeling it.
Fantastic!!
Wow, Andrew Huang is amazing. Thank you
so yall about to drop a mixtape? my ears are ready for the 🔥🔥
Just one word for @andrewhuang....A legend✌
Brilliant always
Every time I see Andrew make music it makes me want to make more music :-)
thank you.
10:52 basically me now too (software engineering, music production, books... save for the gym) -- great video @Nahre Sol
