    I built a 12v setup in a milkcrate that powers two sheds (light,outlets,and 4 trickle chargers)currently using agm batt.upgrading to lithium soon.

    Nice setup, only criticism is tiny panel and cheap charge controller. I suppose it does what you need but a mppt charger and a bigger panel would be the next step. Great stuff! ❤️😎👍

      Yes, the owner of the shed ended up putting in a mains feed. I did talk to them about a larger panel at the top of the garden.

    I'm a prepper so I'm building a steel reinforced block and concrete shed, that will be completely solar using AC and DC that will be running a 12v water pump to irrigate plants with rain water from the rain harvesting system the shed will also have, the set up will be 12v with a lot of interesting twist lol

      It's good to stay DC where possible, more efficient. Sounds like you have a nice project planned. The video you watched, was a setup I stumbled across. Very simple.

    I’m just attempting something like this but with zero previous knowledge. I’ve bought 100w solar panel and 12v 100amh battery and mppt controller.
    I want to run 10-12 3w led spotlights on a light sensing timer so they come on at sunset and run for 2-5 hours depending on time of year. Also want a couple of PIR floodlights probably the same as you 10w and 50w.
    Questions:
    How long can the cable to the controller be. Would about 30m be ok? Placing the panel on the shed roof not ideal in terms of position for sunlight.
    The other thing I’m really struggling with understanding is cable size and amp value of the circuit breakers. I’ve been mostly using Greg Virgoe’s camper van videos and while he explains it well I’m still struggling.

    G'Day,
    Great starter system & well done, but 1 important question are you running a DC fuse, as you should be running a fuse per system line at least, mostly to avoid any electrical damage or fires - food for thought - otherwise a great system
    Warm Regards,
    Chris

    • @SolarPowerChannelwithChris
      @SolarPowerChannelwithChris  3 года назад +1

      Hello, its not my system. In fact the owner of the shed has gone over to mains power now. The system has had a full make over, very flash! But yes fuses per item.

    Hello mate, this set up looks perfect for my garden room!! I need a couple of spot lights in the soffit, a few more inside and hoping to have 2x240v sockets inside. Would this be possible using this solar panel? Cheers!

      @SolarPowerChannelwithChris  3 года назад

      Hello, I would chose a much bigger panel. Unsure where you are in the world and how much sun your shed gets. Plus the direction of the panel all count! I have a 310watt panel which cost £120.. please see my other video's. My last video was building a mini power wall. Connected to a mppt solar charge controller and inverter as one unit.

    I'm looking to wire my shed/mini workshop up with solar. I would like to charge drills, use a little bench grinder and maybe push to a heater. Is that possible with this kind of set up? Thanks.

    • @SolarPowerChannelwithChris
      @SolarPowerChannelwithChris  2 года назад +2

      Anything is possible. If you see my other videos. I have a 310watt panel doing what you just asked, I even have a bench grinder. I would use a diesel heater though! They don't cost much, once up running they pull about an amp. Let me know if you need more details or information plus your budget.

    • @ryanpeacock3647
      @ryanpeacock3647 2 года назад

      Thanks for the reply. I think your right, something like a diesel heater would be a better idea. My budget would be under £200 but now feel that might be a tad unrealistic? I'd want a couple of lights, a double socket and possibly an external light. The socket would be for hand tools and as I said a bench grinder... Your material is really useful. Thanks.

    • @SolarPowerChannelwithChris
      @SolarPowerChannelwithChris  2 года назад

      @@ryanpeacock3647 yes, £200 is a little low. Maybe buy bits as and when. All depends on how much time you spend in there. It's worth it once it's done as you will be proud. Something nice working in an off grid shed. Also make note how much sun your shed gets, does an area of it point south? You can get 12v PIR external lights which by passes the inverter, good for the winter. As an inverter can pull amps when on, not doing anything which flattens the batteries.

    Hi, I'm after powering a whale pump (water pump) 12V 15W, but only want it to pump when the sun is out. What type of solar panel will I need for that? :D Does it matter if I had a 12V 60W or would it blow up/over load it?

    • @SolarPowerChannelwithChris
      @SolarPowerChannelwithChris  3 года назад

      Hello, that panel should be fine. When a motor starts there is normally a spike when a larger draw is required. But that panel should be fine, I was thinking of doing something similar myself for a solar hot water heater.

      @@raymondgodon9543 Most switches at 12volts are OK (check the specs). Most definitely not at higher DC voltages, mind. The one thing that lets the system down is the solar panel - in winter the solar power is likely hardly enough to keep the battery charged, if that. Even modern leisure batteries don’t like being discharged to anything less than 100% SOC for long!
      A good idea, but just not really enough for more than a few lights.
