He says those things as if they are easy for seniors. They are NOT. No one wants to help you in the insurance business. If it was that easy we wouldn't be stuck with no where to go as seniors.

What about help for a senior who is very disabled and does not want to go to assisted living and cannot afford her rent. I have a friend who is getting about $1,100 per month including SSI and Social Security and her rent is $850 in florida. She used to pay $500 just a few years ago and she was doing okay but now she's looking at living in her car. She tried living with her son in Tennessee but she was afraid to drive there because of the terrain but I'm not sure it's a lot less expensive their especially if she wanted to live separately from her family. It's really heartbreaking was senior citizens are going through today!

She can sign up for section 8 subsidized housing. Florida probably has a long waiting list but there are areas that have open enrollment. Agreed, affordable housing is probably the most significant problem for seniors that struggle financially. Eric HELPS

If you find you must place a loved one in a nursing home...go often and never, never on a schedule. They must know that someone could show up at any moment.
Also, seek a financial advisor or attorney early. I know money could be tight but there are so many variables you may not be thinking about.

Low-income older adults in Illinois may benefit from the state's Supportive Living program. The program enables seniors to live in a private apartment with the availability of personal assistance, help with medications, and support services such as meals, housekeeping and laundry. There is staff on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents also benefit from all of the opportunities that are available to socialize with family, friends and neighbors and to participate in social, recreational, educational and wellness activities. Communities are located in more than 70 Counties throughout the State.
Indiana has assisted living communities that are designed to either exclusively or primarily serve low-income individuals who are on or woould qualify for a Medicaid-waiver for assisted living.

My mom is in a tough spot, she absolutely needs assisted living, but it has drained all her money and us kids. she can't go to a nursing home yet and we can't take care of her at home. This is getting very frustrating!! I just can't find the right people to talk to to get her aid.
