For example, Tau Nick, Guard Nick and Genestealer Nick just rambling about what they like about the lore or gameplay of the factions they are experienced with. I think Nick hit nail on the head with his dig at the crisis suit outrage. People who have been crying 'Muh Flexibility!' really have not been using any but maybe 3 different kinds of weapons. And almost all people spamming suits in 10th were using Cyclic Ion. I am glad he included this line, because really this is what it boils down to. No one was using flamers, no one was using burst cannons, they were likely using Missiles, Fusions, or Cyclics.

    • @johnkaravitis3487
      @johnkaravitis3487 9 месяцев назад +3

      Not really fond of it, myself. I think the solution to the CIB spam was to just limit them to one per suit. Easy fix to the spam without having to go to the extreme of splitting crisis suits into three separate datasheets that only have specific 2 weapons.

    • @ninneplug
      @ninneplug 9 месяцев назад

      The way to fix it was to take away the CIB from regular crisis suits. That's all that needed to happen, one simple change that both solves the problem of "the kit doesn't have that bit in it anyway" and people not being able to give up that crutch and branch out with other options. They went way too far and they're objectively worthless now, especially if the rumored points costs are accurate, they're way too expensive for the pathetic amount of firepower they'll be putting out with only two guns. And it makes no sense not being able to take support systems like shield generators anymore when there's enough in the kit to give one to every suit. When we're at the point where we're removing option IN THE KIT and going against the "Swiss army knife" design of the unit that's been present since day one like 20 years ago...
      The designers clearly just didn't care, they didn't "get" the army because they personally don't play it and don't have any real passion for it, so they phoned it in as quickly as possible so they could focus their effort on the next Marine supplement, no doubt. Put it out there, who cares, the nerds will buy whatever we make.

    Having played my first game with all Kroot, I'm loving the new detachment. The rampagers are a bit slow and unwieldy, but the army is very tanky (though that may just be me being used to 8th/9th Kroot). The Krootox really are the standout with their buffed guns and solid melee profile, I think they're better than the rampagers, and are 10 points cheaper to boot. I was able to down a Redemptor on turn one in a 1k point game by overlapping a bunch of buffs. Kroot may seem like they can't punch up, but they can do it now, it's just in an ambush, commit most of your army to a single target kind of way.
    As for the strat to return a unit, I hope your right, because that would be amazing, but from what I understand, when the unit dies, the character is no longer attached to it, so the strat would only bring the character back,. not the whole unit.

    I like your argument to the whole "battlesuits aren't as versatile" complaint that, while technically true, how many variations actually saw use. As they're arranged now with 10th edition not having point costs for weapons, you have an anti-infantry configuration, an anti-heavy configuration, and a general purpose configuration, which seems like a reasonable compromise. Imagine a Mont'Ka detachment of Fireknife suits getting guided opening volleys, rerolling hits to try and get as many Lethal Hits as you can with the opening strike.

    • @ninneplug
      @ninneplug 9 месяцев назад

      It's a valid point; the CIB was the best option by far and was being used like a crutch. But 1) that's GWs fault for failing to balance the options properly, and 2) easily fixed by just removing the CIB as an option, which is the most sensible thing to do since the kit doesn't have the bit in it anyway and it's the entire point of 10th editions obsession with simplifying/dumbing the game down. They've been doing it for other armies and taking away options the kit can't build, so it was expected here.
      You will have players using other builds because without the CIB dominating the wargear list and standing out as the most obvious best choice, and people who still want to field crisis suits because they're cool, naturally trying the other options since they don't feel like they HAVE to take the CIB. And before the CIB there had been multiple configurations in the past that worked for different things (there were also a lot more than just those three classic "named" builds, if I'm not mistaken). But now you can't experiment at all, you can't have fun trying different things because you're locked into one of three specific builds that are needlessly rigid, and if you started just last edition or with the index at the start of 10th, you're being punished whether you spammed CIBs or not, and forced to rip your suits apart or buy new ones to replace them with "legal" configurations. And "Legends" isn't a solution, most people (and local events and GWs own tournaments) will refuse to "let" you use them by default, and it might as well be considered 40k's version of a ban list.
      It's too heavy-handed and reeks of a design team that clearly didn't have a dog in the fight and just shrugged it off because they didn't care. No one actually plays Tau up there in the ivory tower, so they're just guessing at what they think we want or what's "balanced" or not, and I see massive points drops coming in the future, unless they're suddenly okay with having an army sitting well below their "sweet spot" they love so much. I'm not expecting everyone in the studio to play every army or to be passionate about literally all of them, but their job hinges on them at least knowing about these armies they personally aren't into and how they're "supposed" to play, and as a fan you can really feel it when they aren't...well, feeling it. And it's worrying because that was allegedly the reason Squats took a 30 year hiatus from 40k, because no one in the team was feeling it anymore, and they didn't know what to do with the army or what direction to take them in, and even now, it's pretty obvious that if it weren't for Deep Rock Galactic of all things, there wouldn't be any Leagues today, since that seems to be the main inspiration behind bringing them back. Someone ELSE had to do space dwarves and make it a hit, before they came in with "W-wait, we did it FIRST!"

    Creating the Crisis datasheets was an effective way to to not only limit CIB spam (a wargear rule could've solved that), but to have different weapons have different points cost with a supplementary rule, to also prevent a "pick the best option", since now point efficiency is relevant now. Flamer/Burst = 140 , Fusion = 160, Plasma/Missile = 165.

    Nick, I'll always love how much of an absolute dork you are and how you have zero shame about it. It's truly inspiring. That Star Wars joke at the end was so blatantly cringe that it circles back around to being cool. Also I was pretty iffy on the Crisis changes having always been a huge fan of the customizability aspect, but you've convinced me that the new codex and the changes to how they work is certainly worth being excited about.

      Considering they removed the free Age of Sigmae datasheets from the webstore when they moved to 3rd edition; it seems more unlikely to happen in the current climate than not.
      That being said, if they sold them as PDFs with a vastly cut down price and a print on demand version - with the box sets carrying the special edition physical release as always - then that is at least a step in the right direction.

    I think it's a very good codex and the change to crisis suits is IN THE END a good change. you needed to find a way to balance them after the remove of points on weapon choices, without overpricing the units as you said.
    I also like how this technically means UNLIKE the start of 10th, you can actually run 9 full squads of Crisis suits....that's a lot of suits..

    • @LordEladan
      @LordEladan 8 месяцев назад

      Or just simple dont run a single one. For me they dont excist in this edition. I'll stick to Stealth, Ghostkeel, Riptide and Broadsides. That 9 "full" squads are 3 each, maybe not as much as you though. And 1/3 of them are pretty useless with plasma nerfed to 18" and special rule only to unharmed squads. And I dont think they get that cheap that 6 shots from the pods could be worth it for damageoutput.

    1. Sunforge units are better than Starscythe flamer units, even without Farsight, using the Bonded Heroes rule.
    2. You can take a Mont'ka detachment, with a Pathfinder with Coordinated Exploitation, and two HH's with Ion Cannons and using the Supercharge profile + Killing Blow + Focused Fire stratagem, you give both HH's +1AP, Sustained Hits 1, Lethal Hits and Assault, and they can wipe out a full 10 man squad of Heavy Intercessors in one turn.

    Got some Mathhammer for everybody regarding the new Crisis suits:
    Looking at the maximum numbers (disregarding point costs for the moment), the new datasheets actually win out slightly.
    Looking at the old datasheets, we can have a maximum of 3 units of 5 +1 commander. Let's say we go 3 guns and 2 shield drones on each: that totals 18 models, 54 guns, and 108 wounds.
    With the new datasheets, we can take 9 units of 3 (3 units per datasheet). Putting the max allowed of 1 shield drone on each model, that totals 27 models, 54 guns, and 135 wounds.
    Obviously, points cost and weapon effectiveness will temper how much of an improvement/reduction this ends up being.

    The warshaper 0cp strategem is worded that 'once per battle round, one unit from army can use this ability' so that would mean only one Shaper can use it per round. So you can get 20 kroot back for 2cp, and then get another 20 back for free in the same turn only in that order. Its the same limitation as having multiple captains in a SM army.
    Still worth having the two shapers so you can always bring back 20 kroot per round for free. 😊

    So dear Nick, thank you for your review and always having a smile on your face no matter what GW is doing with the rules. I have to kindly interrupt you here. You made a few statement that are not really what I was from expecting from you. Especially you calling out people that it wouldn’t be a big deal to loose „some“ customization. There are 3 presets and you can’t even take duplicate drones. I was never playing 3 CIBs and constantly played my crisis as Allrounders, but most importantly I have built and painted them like that. It was my big hobby dream to have an army fully painted in wysiwyg and I finally achieved that last December. Now the new codex is releasing and I am loosing my longstrike, crisis suits and crisis commander (I own two and gifted one to a friend, now I have to get one to play them as a crisis unit). We loved the flexibility and there role on the battlefield. I be put a shitload of work into that just to learn, I am never going to play with them on a tournament since I am not able to keep up to the speed of GW shifting the meta and now even loadouts. I am not saying that I was offensed by any means since we are all grown ups, but this debate/hate of competitive players or people who don’t care about wysiwyg against players who are facing a hard time in there beloved hobby is just downright wrong. Everyone has e different reason for the time invest and they might vary al lot so please be respectful and provide help instead of writing comments like „cry baby“ and so on 😂 This is still our hobby and we have different ways to express it. If you are a comp player and you face such a comment of someone being not happy about it, then provide knowledge on how to solve this in terms of rules, building armies or just don’t giving a fuck. My advise right now: adapt to those specialist teams and play one troop of classic legend suits as your super elite choice in casual games. Actually having rules for one unit for casual and competitive games is…AMAZING!!
    What I would like to expect from GW is one simple thing. Please provide all the legends datasheets in your app. Because of these updates I will move to BattleScribe and cancel my subscription for the app.

    I think they should do something similar to the Crisis suits with GSC acolytes, not to the same extent but Demo charges are kinda similar to Ion blasters taking the heavy mining weapons is just not as good and the points as well are compensating for demo charges. So maybe splitting them up into two data sheets might not be a bad idea.

    I almost always ran very diverse Crisis teams in 9th. 3 5 man units, one with 24-30" range with plasma/missiles, and the other 2 with cyclic/burst/flamers. 1 unit for murdering vehicles and elites, 2 units to drown lighter infantry in firepower.
    Cyclics were always good for versatility, but the danger and price was too high to spam.
    Losing the ability to really turn a Coldstar into a death machine is going to hurt more than anyones talked about. It was by far the best way to put consistent, precision damage downrange.

      What do you think is good? They lost the ability to use the best weapon on their suits, can't customize their load outs, locked to minimum size units when their best Strats cost 2 co so you would want to use them on a big unit. Lost characters, lost prototype systems, only 4 detachments compared to more for every other faction that has a codex. Stealth suits for an upgrade and firewarriors are arguably better with their new special ability. New Kroot are fun but they don't let them interact with our main army rule.

    • @Admiralkirk95
      @Admiralkirk95 9 месяцев назад

      @@WaywardpaladinYou main army rule doesn't it say "T'au empire' units, I believe kroot have that. I think? I'd have to ask my brother he's the tau player.
      But this is coming from a space marine perspective. Your army was already ok (In 10 edition standards anyway) before the codex and it's looking like it's more of the same. meanwhile space marines have about half their detachments(one good thing about having less detachments is they can focus a little more, Space marines got to worry about 6 plus balance it out for future sub faction detachments which kind explains why Dark angels sucks so badly) being good but internal balancing is the real issue. There was even a decent and not overpowered strategy(Atleast as I saw it) using Uriel ventris, Marneus calgar and Devestator centurians and the ravenguard detachment. Then GW is quick to nerf that into the ground by increasing prices all gravis and the centurions.
      I'mnot saying it's perfect and as someone who's only been in the game for 10 I see what they are doing. My brother straight up predicted that Crisis suits would be turned into more specialized units(The unit cap of three kinda sucks though) Losing the best weapon is both good and bad. Cause it was just too predictable for people to just spam the cyclic blaster. But it was a very good weapon. They are trying to obviously remove it for more variety and to encouragemore aggressive styles of play cause I believe the blaster was the longest range weapon?
      Don't get me wrong, it's got bad. But from what I see Tau is eating better than space marines in my honest opinion.

Like the close quarters flamer one is called Starscythe and the long ranged plasma/missile one is Fireknife? Like Fire... and Knife. Flames and close quarters, it writes itself. I have no idea on the actual balance of any of it, not one to really play tau, but that naming is a very strange choice (though kinda funny), and I could easily see causing at least some confusion with newer players.

    the kroot war shaper can only revive one unit he was attached to the once, and only the once per battle round. if its allowed, as the unit is dead before you can use the strat, but i assume its a battle tactic for this reason too, other revive strats are not battle tactics, unless its a typo.
    so if you have 3 war shapers in 3 different units, you can revive 3 units max for 0CP but once in each battle round.
    the other revives will cost 2CP and to get 2 units revived in one turn, you will have to pay 2CP for one unit first before using the free 0CP ability/strat

      The internal balance was wack

    • @ninneplug
      @ninneplug 9 месяцев назад

      It has nothing to do with "internal balance" it's literally down to the fact that the gun doesn't come in the kit. That's the main reason the issue was addressed at all.
      When a new one comes out later, or when they feel like doing an "upgrades and transfers" pack for us like they do real armies like Marines which is what they really should have done, it'll come back again and will somehow be considered balanced enough at that point to be included. Sales are what "inspire" the design team, which is why we lost all those characters: old, outdated models that will come back with fanfare when they have plastic replacements for them.
      Then again I dunno, they also banned crisis suit commanders even though the kit comes with extra armored bits to build a commander. So they just straight up took away an option the kit could make for no reason. Also, you can't give your plasma suits shield generators even though the kit can build that, and it was "so wack" no one ever used them, especially in tournaments. Suits just got nerfed into the ground until the next edition, so for the next 4+ YEARS, because of ONE wargear option being problematic, and the design team being unable to see the easy and obvious solution to that alleged problem, and instead completely missing the point of crisis suits to begin with and going against 20+ years old design philosophy that worked just fine, up until they thought they could get people to buy $800 worth of Tau enforcer commanders to outfit their suits with CIBs in a past edition...except 3D printing came and killed that idea for them, so now they take it away and pretend they care about "balance" suddenly.
