    Wonderful video today! ...... Happy New Year to all of You as well ...... Things seem to be going pretty well now and Honestly after only 90 days in the new barn the girls seem to be learning their new routine pretty quickly. Just watching some of the older videos in the old barn the change in their routine is huge and as we watch along with all of you the girls seem so much more relaxed, and social to both each other and all of you. I heard you say that the milkings are averaging between 2.5 & 2.7 I think per day which seems awesome for just 90 days into the new routine. You can also get from the videos that all of you seem less stressed and there is a new sense of calm throughout the new barn. With so much new technology in the new barn to learn it can be a bit overwhelming at first but from what we can see you are picking it up as quickly as the girls are adjusting to their new routine too. I suspect the next 3 months will continue to iron out more of the wrinkles and things will become smoother. As Always THANK YOU for continuing to share your journey with all of us....... Heres hoping 2025 will be prosperous and healthy for Hollcana farm........

    Hi hope all goes well in new year...we started robot over 2 years ago,,, one bit of advice we got from visiting farmers before we started was to stay away from cows and they will find their own time as long as udders are suiting easy attachment....put any problem cows on fixed time milking
    Good luck 👍

    The honest assessment of your cow progress with the new barn and robot is helpful. Expectations are hard to set properly and being realistic about the effort required to get all cows fully trained is helpful for personal satisfaction. How do you think the robot and compost pack are affecting SCC? Where are the slow learners in their lactations? Have you had to train any heifers yet? How well do they do? Does it "rain" inside the barn now that curtains are working properly?

    • @HollcanaFarm
      @HollcanaFarm  17 дней назад +1

      @@melvinstein7739 Thank you! The slow learners are mostly further along in their lactation and the new heifers are much easier to get on to it. I think we have trained at least 4 since we moved in. The robot and compost are pretty good in regards to SCC. It might be a little more difficult especially while getting the pack started. The curtains working properly has helped with the raining problem. We need to keep on top of it when the weather changes so quickly though.

    Absolutely beautiful barn. You guys are doing a great job and thanks for showing us. Im in a 30 year old freestalbarn and would love to get robots. For more milk start with youre drycow ration. Make a balanced tmr for them. Only hay will not get high enough peak production in next lactation. Invest time and money in becoming youre own feed expert.

      @HollcanaFarm  18 дней назад

      @@JB26502 Thank you! I will tell the guys what you said. We know that having the dry cows separate from the bred heifers now will make it easier to feed each group better. Thanks

    Sounds about right for 3 months in. It will get better. We feel here that you get more fetch cows in compost barn system but when managed well cows do well. We really like the LVI tillers but they are expensive. I have seen chisel plows and reverse rotation roto tillers booth do good jobs. Bedding is your freind when in doubt add more. Winter is the worst time for the pack.
    Mix up fetch times dont train them to be fetch cows.
    On production side make sure they are getting enough energy to sustain peak milk. Seems feed men like pulling to much energy out of the bunk to get cows to go to robot. Its a fine balance. My opinion here compost cows use more energy just walking than freestall cows.
    Happey new year

      @@jessebitler8956 Wow! Thank you for the great advice! It came at a good time. We are struggling the past 4-5 days. It was going really well for about a week and now we don't know what is wrong. I think there is something wrong with the robot arm but not sure. Numbers are down and 3 hours in the night nobody went. I think I need a reboot🥴

      @HollcanaFarm we know the frustration. We are 7 years in 240 cows on on galaxy astrea robots.......some days it's still frustrating. High quality forage and keeping ration consistent are a big part of keeping cows moving in robot barn. I dont know much about the lelys other than I wish I had them instead of what I have at this point. I could sense a familiar frustration in your sons comments. If we can help look us up at Vista grande farms llc. Or jon at we cover has our contact info. Lots of people have helped us

    Hello Happy New Year. Do you want to go out to pasture with the cows in the summer? Greetings

    • @HollcanaFarm
      @HollcanaFarm  18 дней назад +2

      @@Jerseyhunger We will continue to pasture our heifers and as much as we love pasturing the cows we will keep them in for this year, at least, to get used to working with the robot. We will need a good fencing plan to make sure they come to the robot sporadically instead of all at once. We already kept the cows in during the day and only pastured at night since they didn't do well in the heat during the day. I love cows out in the field though. Beautiful!
