- a vlog where we get our dalmatian puppy, Penny! I show a little puppy haul from kmart, setting up the crate and then we travel over 8 hours to pick her up!
I seriously cannot get over how TINY and cute she is here! she has grown so much since we got her!

I was so excited when filming this video and theres a lot of things I didn't exactly explain properly so I thought I would write them here.
A lot of you know that I have forever wanted a Dalmatian, however, I needed to wait until we had the space for her in a large backyard and I had the time to train and walk her regularly. I have researched a lot about the breed and know they can be hard work as they are highly energetic dogs. Finally, we felt like we have everything ready for our new puppy!
Before finding where we got her from, I did look online and did some research to see if there were any Dalmatian puppies that I was able to rescue (most of the pages I found were for in the US) I did check in with local shelters from time to time for the year leading up to this. I just want to make it clear that if there was a puppy suitable for us, I would have adopted her 100%.
With Coco being a priority in our life, it was important to get a puppy rather than a full grown dog, as she will adapt better in our environment. Being a first time dog owner with a pet already, I have done a lot of research which does say getting a puppy is a better decision as I don’t have a lot of experience with dogs. I am very proud to say I am a responsible pet owner and I will do everything I can to ensure when I bring an animal into my life, it is long term. For so many reasons, adoptions or rescues don’t work out for those with existing pets or first time owners and I didn’t want that to be us. Of course we will consider adopting in the future, however this decision to get Penny was one we waited a LONG time to actually do! This definitely doesn’t mean we won’t adopt in the future, but for right now, adopting wasn’t for us 💗
I also wanted to mention that the "breeder" we got her from wasn't actually a "breeder" as such. She had a female dalmatian and eventually got a male and this was their first litter. They are pets and part of her family. I'm not sure if she will continue to have litters but I am so glad I got Penny from her instead of some of the local breeders.

The doggie you were suppose to get looks so sad. 😔 I would have gotten her regardless. I wouldn't be able to choose another like you did.
It wouldn’t have been the right thing to do to make her travel 8 hours while being so sick. We picked the one who kept coming up to us, she pretty much chose us. It was a hard decision but I do believe we ended up with the family member we were meant to have.

This is the perfect puppy, low energy and already calm. With this type of puppy you are less likely to have behaviour problems.

Hey Crystal, just a little bit of advice, please be really really careful with the cheap dog toys from Kmart. We used to buy them all the time for our little baby until one day a plastic toy dried up outside and our dog decided to eat it. Ended up clogging up her intestines and she had to have a massive operation where they cut open her stomach to get it out. Please be so so careful, saves you so much money on surgery and all that pain and stress for the puppy. All the best with your new baby!❤️❤️❤️
Yes, there's been 3 stories in the news here in New Zealand of the same thing happening with kmart toys.
I buy children’s soft toys for my boys as they are made much better and have to comply with safety laws in Australia. They last heaps longer than pet toys.
Molly Nelson just cause she continues to let her dog play with kmart toys doesnt mean she didnt listen. Theres a thing called supervision.
@@xSevenDevilsx Thank you I didn't want to be the only one who says it. I don't let my dog have toys outside because he destroys them and i'll find stuffing all over the yard so he doesn't get toys outside, he only gets toys where I can see him so he won't destroy or eat them. ALSO dog who eat random crap to me sound like they're not properly trained. My dog eats dog food only unless I give him scraps or he gets into thte trash which he only does if we've had beef and the packet is in the trash. BUT with supervision he can't get to it.
@Molly Nelson SORRY NO. NO SUCH THING as being too distracted to take care of your dog, you should treat your dog like a child, you wouldn't leave a child unsupervised with dangerous toys, don't do it to your dog.

Ive had 4.
Snoopy was our first Dalmatian. We got her when I was 4yes old.
She was "free to good home" in the newspaper.
She was the best dog ever. She walked us to school. I once forgot my hat and she brought it to school for me (we lived across the road). Mum knew we were safe in the front yard with her.
She passed away at when I was 14.
Then we got Dodie when I was 17.
We got her as a puppy from a breeder. She was a terror and was known as "spotty face girl" from the breeder. We loved her very much.
After 6 months we saw the breeder had advertised that she had a rehome.
Scarlet (known as shooting star) was a former show dog and was 18 months old. We fell in love immediately and adopted her.
She didn't know how to sit (They aren't taught so they don't sit in the show ring) and pranced instead of walked which meant her nails never wore on walks.
They were both beautiful dogs.
Unfortunately we lost Dodie after 4 yrs. She became very ill. We think it might have been a snake bite but we don't know.
Scarlet then became the spoilt dog. She got 4 meals a day and got to sleep on our beds. She loved vegemite toast and learnt to bark to get it. Scarlet loved the beach and walks.
We lost Scarlet on Valentine's day this year.
I moved out of home at 26. It was then I realised I missed the company of dogs. I began to volunteer at a pound during the school holidays when I visited mum in mg home town (school teacher)
It was here I found Moses.
He was 11 months old.
He was placed in the pound because he jumped up.
I adopted him immediately.
We attended dog training classes for a whole year.
Moses is my whole life and goes everywhere with me.
He turned 3 in January and is always getting attention at dog parks and beaches.
He loves nothing more than to cuddle. He knows fetch and loves all dogs.
Dalmatians are beautiful breeds. They are loyal and affectionate and love to be apart of the family.
They all havev their quirks. Don't let the puppy phase scare you.
Dalmatians used to walk very long distances next to carriages so they love and need exercise and stimulating. Agility or fly ball are fantastic and I recommend a dog club.

I have to dogs one is a sprocker spaniel called Angus and the other is a French bulldig called luna she is so norty 😂 they are both my world and I would do anything for them. I have a dalmatian who is now 5 years old, every time we take him for a walk people always come up to us. seeing children's faces when they meet a dalmatian just makes all the training and all the socks that have been ripped up even more worth it. dalmatians are just gems and sometimes I forget how lucky I am to own one myself! I hope you enjoy raising that little pup and, just saying seeing all of those puppies made my heart so happy!!
Dalmations get big pretty fast so most of the stuff you got won’t last long also they may eat more than u expected *just depends*
I think it’s fine because they have a cat. Once the puppy won’t fit the stuff anymore it will probably belong to the cat haha

Yeah, I’m sorry but I don’t see your point haha. I’ve had many large breed puppies/ dogs and of course they outgrow stuff, we still buy the expensive stuff even though it’s not necessary simply because we like to ad love the look of it, collars etc typically last til like six / seven months, my younger husky is turning seven months in two days and just outgrew his puppy harness and collar ( the harness was a tad large when he was a baby ). Also- you shouldn’t let a puppy eat more so idk what you meant by “ it may eat more just depends “. You should always limit dogs and especially puppies food based on age and weight, even if they act hungry no more, most good dog food brands and the majority in general or online will have weight and age feeding charts.
She did say that, the puppy can use it for a couple weeks/months then they’ll need a new one, so they’re aware that she’ll grow

It's so nice to hear you've done your research with this breed, I know so many people who just jump into getting high energy breeds without researching and then getting overwhelmed. Exercise and mental stimulation is all you need for high energy dogs, give them a job to do and they're right as rain 🙌 hope your journey with her goes super well!!

Anyone looking to get a Dalmatian please be aware that they cannot eat red meat due to their inability to process purines. I lost my Dalmatian from bladder stones because I was unaware that he had to eat a special diet.
Aside from that they are perfect dogs if you allow them to be a member of the family and included in everything the family does! They will not do well tied up in the backyard they will become destructive, they have to be with their people. If you don't have the time to exercise them every day then they are not the right breed for you. If you are a long-distance runner (I am) or a cyclist then they are the perfect breed for you! They are very active dogs for active families.
I guess no dog is happy with not being involved in the family and being tied in the backyard. Just like every dog should only be put into a family that has time to take them on walks. So what you've written isn't just about Dalmatians but every single dog breed!!
Sleepy Head certain dogs are better suited to outside living , I would never put a dog outside myself but some dog breeds thrive more outside. So it doesn’t apply to every single dog breed
@@joshc3899 do you have examples for dog breeds that should be kept outside?
Sleepy Head research and you will find out , some examples of a certain breed may prefer indoor where as other examples of the same breed may prefer outdoor, every dog is different therefore you can’t narrow it down to every member of that breed, however generally dogs like malamutes and certain cattle herding breeds
Sleepy Head I have Great Pyrenees and they love being outside. They are working dogs and guard sheep. Mine would be very unhappy if they had to stay inside. Also, some dogs don’t have to be walked every day. My 5 lb Toy Fox Terrier gets all his exercise inside. He loves to play ball, fetch and wrestle with the cat.

Awe Penny will be so sweet like you. I think you picked the perfect puppy for your family. I bought my son a male Dalmatian puppy when he was 3 yrs old. Best decision I ever made. He was my son's best friend an our sweet boy for the next 15yrs. My son named his baby puppy Captian Spot lol. He had one huge black eye an black ear's. Perfect spots. We loved this beautiful dog so much. He learned to speak. He said I love you. Mama. Agua wich is water in Spanish. So so smart. Opened doors. He was a bit of a escape artist. The only issue I didnt care for was the shedding. Other then that spot was a perfect pet an companion for our family. RIP SPOT...

We used to raise and show Dalmatians. Had over 100. Recently we decided to rescue a lovel 7 month old. Lucy has won the hearts if everyone who see her.

I have had dalmstions since I was 9 months old and I am 21 now. They are so loyal. One thing to be mindful of is because of their light fur they are a bit more prone to sun cancer. I have had 2 out of 3 of my Dalmatians have some form of sun cancer on their stomach. Just make sure they have plenty of shady areas in summer and she will hopefully live a wonderful long life. My girl now is 14.5 and means the absolute world to me
You can also get sunscreen for them I did for my Dalmatian.

For people who have a dog or any pet doesn’t know how lucky they are. I always wanted a dog so badly but I can’t get one and I’m sad because I think they are so cute and fun to play with.
It can’t be butter they are A LOT of work so be mindful they make you lose sleep a lot of potty accidents teething so a lot of painful biting
i know how lucky i am. i begged for a dog for 10 years. just keep pushing. i promise you’ll get one.

Just be patient and time will tell when you’re ready :) Do be mindful like everyone else is telling you that owning a dog can get expensive. A lot of time & effort is also spent on them as well. But boy is it worth it! Wish you the very best. x

I grew up with Dalmatians! My parents are a part of the Dalmatian Club of America. Growing up we adopted retired show dog and the last dal my parents got was a puppy. They are awesome!

I got my beautiful little Dalmatian puppy 2 months ago, also named Penny. She was bigger than your little girl when we got her, and seeing all the little clips of her had me crying like a baby. It's amazing the impact that dogs have on our lives, and I can honestly say that my Penny saved mine. Best of luck with your little angel x

Shayna Foster okay yeah but most of them are there for a reason. barking, jumping, old , sick, agressive etc... some people fall in love with a breed and cant find that breed in a shelter
I've been a dedicated owner of Dalmatians for over 20 years. I started a yearly walk journal 6 years ago and that's when I realized my 12 &1/2 year old female has walked close to 3,000 miles in her lifetime.
I have a Dalmatian called Louie and he is 5 he has a operation due to bladder stones so be aware that Dalmatians are prone to bladder stones so be careful with what you feed her. X
(By the way they live cut up pieces of apple)
Izzy what a crazy coincidence! I had a Dalmatian named Louie as well, who I lost last year due to bladder stones. One of them got lodged in his urethra making him unable to urinate and by the time I realized what was going on and rushed him to the vet his kidneys were already permanently damaged. I wished I had known that they can't eat red meat. My Louie was my best friend and the best dog anyone could ask for. Thank goodness you found out about the stones in time so your Louie can be saved!

I have a dalmatian! I got her as a puppy 4 years ago. She is a huge comfort snob. She wants more than just blankets and wants a full on mattress, but will destroy a dog bed so wasting the money is not worth it. she now has old feathered down pillows wrapped in a blanket :P She's a huge snob tho! And SO sassy. But tip if you want nice blankets for super cheap; Buy them at thrift stores! You could find some really nice ones for dirt cheap and often times in brand new condition. Thats where I get all my pet blankets from.

I have a boy Dalmatian named Cosmo. I recommend getting pet insurance for her just in case cosmo has Urnate Stones and it was a 5k emergency surgery to save him.
CalledMoo yes! Dals cant have high protein diets and are prone to stone! So expensive and scary!
