  • I began photographing the Legado Luxury Apartment project almost a year ago. However, on the early morning hours of April 1st, 2024 while a quick storm of the spring was passing through Arizona, the project all went up in flames threatening hundreds in the neighboring Homestead Talking Glass Apartments and businesses surrounding the area. This was the largest structure fire in Prescott Valley’s history and where outside agencies, as far as Sedona, Arizona, were called to assist. And when it was all said and done at the end of the day, not one life was lost, and no serious injuries reported. So, to all those involved, 1st responders, those behind the scenes, those cooperating and helping neighbors, thank you. Job well done.
    This is my short documentary.

Chuck was a good Councilman. I enjoyed supporting Council as Town Planning Staff back then.

This is so sad, it was going to be a beautiful and vibrant place! Was excited to try the rooftop restaurant. Hope they rebuild it.

However, kudos to the 1st Responders and all those directly or indirectly involved. No life lost and no serious injuries, and when it's all said and done, and it was contained.

@@ChuckAbles 💯 coulda been so much worse, possibly would’ve lost all of downtown if it was windy that day.

Barry Barbe was the man behind the restaurant and gourmet market...he runs El Gato Azul and Torme in Prescott.

I can imagine the heat! I worked traffic control for a similar fire, at a huge apartment complex, under construction, in Houston, Texas, a number of years ago. From several blocks away, the heat felt quite uncomfortable. All of that wood will burn quite hot! I did not get any pictures, that being before mobile phones were in common use, and was also before I had the added duty of photographing crime scenes.

I can only imagine. The 1st Responders and folks nearby did a remarkable job.

Terrific photo essay. Was the apartment section wooden framing? Trying to figure out what was so flammable. The early shots looked like mostly concrete and metal. Nice job! M246?

Thank you so much, I appreciate the comment. The apartments/businesses were being framed in wood as far as I could tell. And as I understood it, a 700-apartment complex. Most of the images were taking either with the Q2 or Q2M with a couple of flyer cameras in there. I found the Q2's make for great daily cameras, especially when going back and forth to work that can cover a wide range of photo opportunities. My M246 on the other hand I use for the event/street occasions because I love the down to earth, simplistic feel of it in hand. Having said that, there is one photo from the M246 in this presentation.

@@donjagoe it was not 700 units
..it was closer to 329. The construction model was known as a "Texas Wrap"...the slab concrete parking structure would be surrounded by wooden apartment building. Finished facade with spray on material covering basically chicken wire. Very cheap construction for very high rents. We live a mile away and found pieces of rubber and soot in our front yard. The folks living in the apartments next door were evacuated. I'm sure they're not happy that the Fains are going to rebuild.

Get ready to document Part Deux...Fains intend to do it all over again. The biggest eyesore in this town will rise from the ashes and rubble.

As of yet, they haven't. I'm keeping up with the news day to day.
