This is absolutely OUTSTANDING advice, THANK YOU. I’ll be 76 this week, I’ve been shooting for 60+ years, and I cannot wait to they this superb drill. It makes so much sense to me. I also want to try a 2 - 2 - 2 with my Ruger GP100 revolver; it’s capacity is low, but (for some reason) I can hit where I am with it.
Thanks a lot Sir. I’ve been lucky to take several of Dave Spaulding’s classes and when he offered a instructor class, I was fortunate to get selected for that two week Handgun Combatives coarse. No doubt about it Dave is a great combatives pistol teacher and I count him as a mentor and friend. Thanks for sharing his passion for teaching the real world application and use of the pistol. You’re a top notch guy Ken for giving credit where credits due. Keep up the great work. Bill H
I know Dave. And I can tell you, those little white cards of his are THE DEVIL!!! Nothing but love for the man. Hell of a good instructor. His style is more wise street cop than GWOT. Regards, Marky
Love seeing a legend such as Ken STILL doing his push of the craft. Thank you sir for still pushing hard out there. The newbies of the Insta-google-tweet world have nothing on the ways of the legends that marked the industry in the right way.
Thanks, I'm 68 and just learning. I'm mostly a Benchrest rifle shooter 22 lr. 1/10" bull at 50 yards. Learning pistol shooting has been fun and a great learning experience
I alway love to hear what you have to say. As another older guy in your age bracket your pearls of wisdom are something I can use. Most of the shooting stuff out there seems to completely overlook us. THANKS!
Is that a slam on Crown Royal? 😂😂 Good Stuff Ken! I have been using 3x5 cards and small paper plates stapled to scrap cardboard on my standing targets for years - largely because I am cheap, but they do make for great targets for those center mass and head shot hits. And, just as you said change the drill up to suit your needs in terms of distance and time(s), but the idea is to shoot and move while maintaining good accuracy. Love it! 👍👍
I'm going to try this exercise. As a country boy who grew up hunting and placing that first shot, I've always tried to put accuracy above speed, (even though my trigger finger can sure get carried away doing a Bill drill). Not my fault, I just blame Wilson.......lol
What is your thought Ken Hackathorn on leather holsters for carry? I've heard after a while they colapse and might push the trigger when reholstering.....
💥🔫Superlative Shooting Ken!👍🇺🇸 Great 2 see u still shooting like that in ur 70s!👊😎🤙 What Gun Was That U Were Using? And how can one get in touch w/Dave Spalding for Training? THNX!👍
Love it . "Doesn't teach stupid shit". I've always been a big advocate of teaching very simple stuff because you can do simple stuff under stress easily. Why you looking at your feet no bad guys down there. LOL BTW Line dancing lessons will help your lateral movement.
Unfortunately It seems very soon we will need a tactical training video on how to take on the gun confiscators when someone leaves a false anonymous tip that you’re a dangerous person that needs their guns taken away with no due process, no warning, no warrant, no charges etc.

i'm not an experience shooter like you at all I did get a gun that came with a red dot it was pretty much free. I don't carry that gun. I use it as a range. A couple times I did not put enough rounds through it. To feel comfortable carry like I do with my 365 micro. That I conceal, that is the NRA edition. With the irons and. There the night addition and after hundreds. And hundreds of rounds through that gun. I carry it religiously. Some people say that they would rather carry their glocks with their red Dots and I tried to tell them that I shoot a good amount. I probably shoot maybe a couple 100 rounds every 2 or 3 months. But it's through the same couple guns every now and then I'll take one of the safe guns. Or home guns or safe queens to the range. But mainly the ones I carry and almost always. It's the sig I'm shooting. Religiously with the irons and to prove my argument with my buddy. I made the point of the because that's what distance away from a threat. If you're going to have to use force, they're going to be very close and you're not going to be able to get the gun out fast enough because we were doing Conceal appendix, whatever speed drawing from the holster mine with the irons. And the perfectly retented or whatever the word retention on my holster. For that gun and the night sights, call mount lightning fast every time with no. Snags, no problems. I noticed probably 4 out of 10 times that we were doing it as fast as we could. He could get it out fast 6 out of the extra second or half a second because it got caught on his shirt or something. He had to correct that as well as get it up. To target you gotta remember at the distance of a real threat that little bit of time to adjust the optic off of his shirt or readjust his shirt to get it out of the holster because it got caught on Something on the way out at the distance of a eminent threat could mean your life plus I've always send side was able to own a hand gun. Never even was interested in red dots. For those don't get me wrong, I have the Red dot optics now for other weapons. Like my AR pistol and my ACC Glock chassis system. And Some of my rifles And some of my super high-powered PC p air guns. But that's all for planking target. Shooting taking my time and needing to use them for distant shooting or just for fun. I have 3 old rifle that I could hit 100 yd plates probably a good amount of times with A. Red dot or no optic VS the scope. I would hit more but I think it's more fun to use something harder or more challenging. That's the only time I use. Optics is in a situation like that. As far as everyday. Carry or home defense. My guns all have no upgrades. Or anything fancy that I will be carrying. On me, religiously or using for home protection Would? Be my everyday carry pistols with iron sights until I can get to my shotgun which I don't need any site. I just need to aim it around the corner and start pounding the trigger. Lot of people talk about AR15. S for home defense and it's just crazy. How not that I'm inexperienced, but how much I've learned before. I've jumped into things and listen to people like you and just learned on my own. That Simp. Le is best and to me. Optics are not needed. In my opinion, unless you are shooting for fun like I have a bunch of different optics for my A. R style twenty two lr And that is fun to use With all kinds of different sites from red dots to long scopes to prism sights. And so on, but as far as home defense or my everyday life. Or self-defense, none of that nonsense. To me, that's all novelty, because I'm not a hunter. Or I'm not shooting people far away. Because they're no longer or. Become a threat at least where I live until. They are pretty much in a situation Or with me where it's my life. Or theirs and I no longer think that I have no other choice but to end their life to keep my own. And that's probably how it is everywhere. Foot, I know some state. You can shoot people by protecting your own property and stuff like that. I don't believe in that. Maybe shoot them i* t** a** with a high-powered pellet gun. Or paintball gun like their a** up. What about 50 paint balls and 3 seconds? But nothing lethal, especially if they're stealing, change. Or your car stereo and you catch them. There's no reason to shoot them with a firearm. I don't believe but anyway. My point is. On the way I would need an optic to actively hunt or shoot people is if there was a Civil War. Or some type of apocalypse and I had to Start hammering the long guns out the top floor windows. Or the roof threats coming constantly at my house. Then I would worry about optics. And long scopes and getting good with them and learning real quick. I'm pretty good and quick with long scopes. And long rifles Or long shoot in somewhere with high-powered rifles at targets. Far away and making adjustments. But as far as s***, you see in movies where people are on the roof random common citizens that don't shoot like you that have scope bolt guns even AR guns with long-range scopes. Just head shot after head shot after head shot is ridiculous. But it's entertainment but all in all sorry about the novel. I agree with you about the red dots. And I do not believe in any situations beyond competition or rain. Shooting that they should even be on a handgun. That's my opinion. But to each is own And I can back up what I say by anybody with the same skill set. I have, I'm not a pro. Shooter an advance shooter. I would say I'm probably better than the average shooter. Because i've done thousands of holster drawsb And even bought a 1.1 version of a blowback BBB gun of the 365 I carry religiously so i can go in my yard and do that same to all with the same feel of the same gun and actually fire at different things at different areas with the sites and I'm not Bob mundan, but i can get that gun out of my holster from an appendix or. Strong arm, sometimes whatever they call it on the side. Depending on the weather, I'll wear and over the waistband holster. That is covered by my shirt that I can get the gun out even faster and on target but not only can I get it out fast but I can hit things Very fast because There. 'S.A. Bunch of ways you can shoot guns. But I use what they call a competitive hold. I guess especially on my 365 I have it mastered to where I have both thumbs riding the side of the slide on the left where the Slide cuts for that reason and I know the exact amount of pressure to apply to that slide before it causes a malfunction. I've shot it so much. I'm just saying I know that I can get my gun out faster than my body. That has an optic because we practice. Just as much as the other and he gets snagged more than. Or I can't say more than me. I think I've got snag a couple times because I didn't pull my shirt up quick enough to get the gun out as I was learning but I know for a fact that I can get it out. Lightning fast on target and can hammer that little gun with a tight group at 2030 feet. Doing like triple taps or even a mag dump at 15 feet, keeping a 6 inch group. I've even recently had a gun range, dude. Or range master sergeant, whatever they are, watch The Range. Watching me shoot the 365 and coming out of the holster onto the target and hammering it. And then getting a back down in the holster. And then doing it over and over fast as I can. Because I had to get certification through the range and pay more money for that Ask me if I compete or shoot competitively with the gun. I Was using because apparently they do have a microcompat class. You can compete in and he was amazed at how accurate and how much control I had over that little gun I couldn't imagine how thrown off I would be if somebody put a red dot on my sig. I would have to get it off immediately LO. L. But to each zone but I would be willing to challenge anybody to the accuracy theory and getting on target faster. And maybe just maybe they would get me on the distance. But that would be if we had limited time if it was take your time and hit s*** 50 feet away or so or 3040 feet but I could take my time and they could too. It would be a dead drawl. I would bet money. I just don't see the point I don't carry an optic and I've used multiple optics and I do use them on other guns. Just not my handguns, especially my carry gun. The only thing I put on that is a quick detached. Ridiculous flashlight/laser with the strobe. It's so ridiculous. It's made my Warrior land called the crossbow. And it pretty much all performs and for the price. Destroys Any other set up I've ever seen are used. Of course A. There are shore fire that are brighter. I would think but mine is 850 lm, probably with the holster. I paid a $100 or less on. EBay, and it lights up the whole yard and the strobe would literally give someone wanna seizure if you hit them. 5 feet away unexpectedly. They would be blinded for at least 20 seconds to where you could get away or relocate. And whatever, but i'm talking to guns or talk about guns too so I ramble on Comments to keep myself busy and entertain and to p*** people off. Because I write novels LOL but to each zone. Just be safe out there everyone and it's true. I guess if you're used to a red dot or you're a new shooter. I mean, that might be an advantage but like he said. I'm always looking for that front site. And I'm not looking at the target right away. It's a whole different minds that I didn't know. It had a name and was an actual thing for people. I thought it was just me and other people that their brain just didn't work right to adjust to it correctly. And I was also told that I couldn't shoot an optic that well because I have. Or used to have a habit of closing one eye. And I still do sometimes on some shots that are further but mainly. I will spend one eye to keep my dominant eye on that target. Because two eyes open will throw your peripheral off and take your concentration off the front and i'm out
