One option to freeze the subject when you're doing a long exposure is to fire a flash first so the slight movement afterwards is a lot less noticable. I've done similar light painting in clubs where i do 8 sec exposure. First I frame my subject and fire the flash then I move the camera towards lights and lasers and move it around to paint in the colors.

Another tip, when painting light..use one light to paint your subject for 2 seconds or so then turn off light, remove subject from frame and then paint in your abstract light movements, a hell lot easier when having more people on location to help but allows more control for lighting your subject. Always subjective tho! much love man.

you can also use a BRIGHT flash then move the subject out of the photo quick and then paint, results in some cools things.

Nice work. Something i found out while doing a similar experiment last year... if you hand sand your rubber pipe, the light from your torch will have a brighter spread and make the intensity more even. Also consider blocking off the other end with a pipe cap and inside the cap have a piece of aluminum foil. This will also help even out the light.
    Good work.

If you up the iso the light becomes brighter. That will probably help the motion with your subject, but the drawback is the excessive grain at night.

For long exposure shots with a person included, use a strobe flash and just hit the button to trigger it manually. You can put a gel on it to give it a certain colour cast as well. That way you can fill anything you like and freeze it.

Seriously good stuff guys. I really like the musical interludes when you are playing the time lapse images. Here's my one criticism . . . the music is great but too loud relative to the speaking audio in the rest of the video. Remember, the music is a filler, and you are not making a music video. When I must continually toggle the volume up and down between speaking periods and music periods, then the volume levels need adjusting. Really hate to nit pick, because your stuff is great, but if you can correct this one minor thing you'll hit it just right . . .

Actually, you could've used the flash on first curtain....that way you don't need to stand still for that long time.
just mark the spot where you are going to stand, take your position, press the shutter, leave the position after the flash happened, and lightpaint away xD

"Everyone has a different aesthetic and preference for photography. When I paint Light-panting portraits, I don't like to draw too much concrete patterns (such as animals, flowers, boats. )In my opinion, the effect that can be achieved with Ps,which is unable to sublimate the work and convey emotion. The perfect combination of light painting and portrait is actually set off by light painting to show the hearts and emotions of the characters. Therefore, light painting portraits should have their own artistic expression.
If portraits photography is to express the current emotions of the lens, then light portraits express the emotions under the mind.
Its surreal visual effects seem to give you an unknown power. Maybe it appeared in your dream, but I can take you back to that moment through the image and record it. Creating a good work requires ability and imagination. It's also because abstract patterns erase more imagination.
So,I personally prefer to combine abstract images with portraits to express people's mood and artistic conception"
