- After 10 days in space, Dragon and Axiom Space’s Ax-2 astronauts Peggy Whitson, John Shoffner, Ali Alqarni, and Rayyanah Barnawi, returned to Earth, splashing down off the coast of Florida at 11:04 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 30.
Falcon 9 launched Dragon and the Ax-2 crew to the orbiting laboratory on Sunday, May 21 at 5:37 p.m. ET from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Ax-2 was Axiom Space’s second private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, and the second of four missions SpaceX will launch to the space station on behalf of Axiom Space via SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles.
It gets so routine now that we have to remind ourselves that every single mission without a failure is an extremely impressive feat. The precision needed, the tech, all these countless heads and hands working together here, that just shows what we are capable of when we pull ourselves together.
Better human payload success record than NASA. Not too long before a larger record than NASA as well.
Absolutely. Even down to the sanitation crew in all of the facilities play an important role for what we do at SpaceX 👍🏽
The reentry sequence (blackout, parachutes , splashdown) has always been an emotional moment, since the Mercury program ...
@Elon Reeve Musk No !
But maybe the Mercury was one of the most spectacular from an era and technological point of view.
This splashed down about an hour and a half from me. Thank you SpaceX for waking up my entire neighborhood 😂😂
Ahahahahahahaha
Yeah same. Too bad they didn’t tell us. It’s because the first time they told us all the red necks got out on their boats and went to the capsule 💀.

Thanks for "dude jumps off a capsule". Would have missed that 😊
Thank you !!❤😊
Glad that they made it home. The end of a historic mission!
👏🚀💛 "Hats off to SpaceX, NASA, and the entire team for yet another awe-inspiring launch, booster auto-landing, docking, undocking, and splashdown sequence! It's incredible how they make it seem routine, but the level of skill and precision involved is mind-boggling. These missions never cease to captivate and impress. Keep pushing the boundaries of space exploration! 🌌🌍🌠"
I watched the returned of AX-2 and i cannot hols on my tears, what a beautiful movement of the support personnel and crews. I saw 2 female support the retrelieval of female crew. What a respect... nice job.
Fantastic, may the Force be with You

Congratulation to four crews of AX-2 for the job well done.
@Elon Reeve Musk hello Elon, your personality is so good, but your thinking going to Mars, i think waste of time and money.
Our mother Earth is so beautiful, only need some innovation to live a good life without fighting and killing. Innovation how to imcrease food production.
Again, congratulation to job well done.

Are they using VLC? The buffering logo at 1:03:15 was definitely the VLC logo... lol😂
Yes, you're watching a recording. That light hadn't moved during that, so it's definitely not live. Fakery as usual
@@insaneprincess4706 well, I use VLC on lots of devices to live stream security cameras, so it's not impossible. I just figured they'd have a more "professional" set up for that type of stream. Its more of a security thing, its an interceptable stream.
LOL - I thought the miniature was a fancy wristwatch x-D 😀
I hope to have a chance to Space in my life.
The thumbnails always get me good, don't no one (average RUclips viewer) wanna watch no 2 hour uncut video albeit, it's phenomenal footage I just don't have the patience lol

I am genuinely curious why we can’t see inside of the capsule and crews reactions as they go through the atmosphere, e.g. liftoff and re-entry. Not even after its done. There have to be recordings.
perhaps the crew is very disheveled and might be thrown off by a camera? or they'll have to doff their clothes or space suits in certain parts.
I was wondering the same thing. They could put a camera inside during re-entry to watch later. I don't get it unless they do and withhold it for some reason.
Amazing 😮😊❤
Fantastic work congratulations.
Thank you Elon Musk and SpaceX for bringing manned spaceflight back to US soil. Another amazingly perfect mission.
What G forces do the astronauts feel when the Dragon thrusters firing for deorbit? How can I expect that. Is it like activating the brakes of a bicycle or braking a car? Or is it harder or softer?
Crew members,
welcome back to the world of 1G.💫🌎
This is so awesome! I want to space. Hopefully, with tech improving every second.
@Elon Reeve Musk LOL. You're so funny Elon bot. 😁
It's weird to me that the 1st drogue chute doesn't even pop until the capsule is already 1/3rd the way below Mt Everest's height.
Maybe the top of the mountain is the ideal place for launch facilities to cut down on fuel costs?

Why did commentator continually talk about hyperbolic fumes???
Hypergolic means, typically of rocket propellant, that it ignites spontaneously with another such substance. Usually, and especially in the case of Dragon's use of MMH (monomethylhydrazine), these compounds are extremely poisonous. Because the propulsion nozzles on Dragon open into the atmosphere (since they open into space when in space), residue is very likely around those nozzles when the capsule is newly returned and bobbing in the ocean. In order to avoid contact between these residue fumes and any crew, a thorough check to ensure their absence is required. This check takes a bit of time, and because commentators must always commentate, you hear what might be repetition to you, but not necessarily to someone who just tuned in. :D
This is my amateur explanation. Any experts are welcome to add information!
Watch the landing of the Boeing X-37B mini-military spacecraft. There, the service technicians are fully dressed in protective suits. They even drain the rest of the toxic fuel from the ship.

I can't believe the recovery is not much faster
They have to be a little more careful, the fuel for the RCS is super toxic so they have to make sure nothing is leaking.
я думал от туда Рогозин еще вылезет ))
Why now the astronauts who travel to the international space station, when they return to earth, must help them walk when they leave the capsule and when they went to the moon and returned, did they walk without any problem? it's too strange🤔😒😒
You know the answer
They are a little weak. Even the moon walkers were shaky on their feet. They recover quickly.
Most Astronaut who came back from ISS stayed at least 6 month there, compared to the few days of Apollo missions.
For Axiom 2, they stayed only 10 days, and as you can see, they are not that much weak and can perfectly walk (I guess they still had to be helped for safety reasons).
Qué chapuzón tan agradable❤❤❤

@Elon Reeve Musk soy fan desde el 2016. Por?

Do they lift off their chairs when they decelerate at that rate?
No, they get pressed back into them.

How long does it take astronauts to go thru immigration?
cool video, commentary not so uhhh, um much umm, uhhhh... bittersweet, uhhhh, ummm. Glad they are home safely.
Space X can send humans to space and back to earth safely meanwhile a company fails to make subs that can survive to go deep to see titanic and comeback without exploding.

the same technology 50 years ago
No, same method. There is a difference.
Here's a question -- Do astronauts have to deal with jet lag after returning to Earth?
Yep! The ISS is on UTC/GMT, so when astronauts come back to earth, they have to readjust to whatever timezone they go back to.

Awesome return! Congrats, SpaceX and Axiom!
Makes me happy to witness our fellow human kind working together for common interests between separated countries, companies, etc. I can only imagine things taking off 3 times as much in the next 5-10years than what was done in the last 3. Huge achievements are going to make the space frontier much more accessible. I hope Nuclear space-tugs and other propulsion systems are harness for wide range of transports in space. I cant imagine once we perfected AI to assist in Teleportation pads/ beaming, of where things will go beyond using huge crafts or burden of series of reorganizing resources for direct power.
Disembarking is just as painfully slow as a regular airliner.
GG SpaceX, NASA & Axiom Space!!!!
I actually forgot to watch this LIVE; I was in a group call with my friends; doing a little movie night.
Anyway, welcome home to the 4 astronauts/tourists!!!!
I heard the sonic boom in Pensacola Floriduh! It echoed for nearly 2 minutes! I missed the live cast though😢
I wonder when NASA will allow SpaceX to do propulsion landings. Parachutes and splashdowns are so 1950s.
I live near the landing area. The whole area heard the sonic boom and everyone went outside thinking someone was outside their house.

a complete show
Strange, that those coming off a trip to the moon and back, in the 60's, did NOT need any assistance to get out of the capsule or meet the press.
They actually did. Also this is simply standard for a return which usually comes after 6 months on the station.
They also didn’t meet the press. Those are photographers
1:54:16 yes, people were crushed. They are already being taken out on medical carts. These are not brave warriors for you - officers of military fighters from the 60s. Perhaps these space tourists in their lives did not hold anything heavier than a smartphone in their hands. Ahaha!
The Apollo missions were only up there for 8-10 days, whereas usually ISS missions last several months.
That said, this AX2 mission is only 9 days, so probably what you are seeing here is just the effect from being strapped in to a fixed chair for 12 hours.
And then probably a standard NASA policy, that astronauts are not allowed to walk by themselves after landing, just to make sure no mishaps are possible, in case they would trip or something due to the unusual sensation og gravity.
Like how some hospitals in the US will insist on patients being driven around in wheelchairs, even when they are perfectly capable of walking.
Great coverage, really enjoyed the expanded look at recovery team, much appreciated
