    So I just pulled the trigger and bought a 2021 KLX300R and read all the comments. Thank you Nick for showing how this bike actually handles and performs, you are an excellent rider. So I read in the comments about power commander what exactly is this? Thank you again for the awesome demonstration.

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! So the pc5 is a fuel programmer. This bike is fuel injected as im sure you know. I explain everything in my pro circuit exhaust video, but the short story is this. The computer on the klx doesn't compensate for intake air or exhaust air. It's called a closed loop fuel injection system, which isnt like you or car which has a mass air flow sensor and O2 sensors to read that. This bike comes lean from the factory to pass strict emissions standards. The pc5 tells the computer to make the optimal fuel to air ratio for more power and reliability. Lean engines run hot and you will reach your valves faster that running the proper ratio. Hope this helps

    • @TheStephenspann27
      @TheStephenspann27 Год назад

      It’s actually “open loop.” Closed loop is when engines run off the 02 sensor feedback

    I finally have the (full) ProCircuit T6 exhaust on the KLX now, and I have the Power Commander in there also... Still some pops/backfires, but I think overrall it glides more, smoother.. if you know what I mean. Feels more free.. Can't tell if it's any faster yet but, definitely seems smoother.. I dunno, maybe it takes time to settle in..

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  3 года назад +2

      The popping isn't the result of a lean condition. It's the pair valve . Even if you don't notice the power difference, sleep good knowing your engine will last twice as long now that the fuel air mixture is correct. That's what really matters.

    I have an impossible question for you...I currently ride a 2009 KX250F. I have been looking at the KLX300R for a few months now and asking myself, "Why not"? I mean, come on...E start, EFI and less than $6k?!?! I mostly ride single/dual track, hilly kind of terrain. My question is, will I miss the power of the 250, or is the longer stroke and torque make me ask "what lack of power"? Keep in mind that if I do get the KLX300R that I will do the air box mod, Power Commander and FMF exhaust.
    Thanks man, great videos, keep 'em coming!!!

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  4 года назад +2

      Great question. Here is how I have been explaining this. The klx300 is a bike for people who leave their ego at home. If you are the type of guy who rides with his guy friends and you all go hard, this bike will work but not as good as your 250f. But if you are using this strictly for fun on the trail, and maybe riding with your family then this is far better than your 250f. You just have to be honest with yourself about what you want . But with all the mods you will be doing, it will keep up with a 250f on most rides unless that ride is a race. The klx300 is not as powerful as a 250f no matter what you do to it and you will notice that, but it still has plenty of power to have fun and get serious from time to time.

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  4 года назад +5

      Yes it's much better with slower technical stuff but still not the best because of its weight. You could race it in enduro with some stiffer springs for sure. You wouldnt need stiffer springs if you are small or the course is smooth.

    Looking for some feed back very impressed with the way that bike handled on a track wanting to buy the wr250r but this bike is cheaper and looks like can take a beating what year is your bike and would you say it handles better than the Yamaha 250

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  3 года назад +3

      If you remove the throttle stop and other bs on the wr it will beat the crap out of the klx300 . Its lighter, More powerful and better suspended. You have to be honest with yourself about what kind of rider you are. Leave the ego out of it. The klx300 is no slouch in power once the pc5 is installed, and the suspension is great for trail riding even at a fast pace. It corners very well, but it is heavy. The wr can win a hare scramble in the expert class, but the klx cant. The klx can win in the intermediate class with an expert rider at the bars. But if you are just trail riding and even getting after it and pushing your limits the klx can do it. Here's is the selling point. The klx engine design allows it be be ridden with not only way less maintenance, but it can run the same for far longer without a rebuild. The wr rebuild will run you 3000 dollars after only 200 hours give or take. The klx will run a 1000 amd not bat an eye if you take care of it( and intall the pc5 to fix lean running). Even the wr requires a remap to make it run properly. The wr is a high rpm race engine with a short shelf life, hence the power you get. The klx will just keep trucking along.

    • @smeggysmeg2837
      @smeggysmeg2837 3 года назад +1

      I think you mistook his question. He asked about the wr250r not the wr250f. All of what you said applies to the f, but the wr250r dual sport is a heavy underpowered piglet compared to the f. And the klx300r would be better off road than the wr250r. That aside, nice riding in the video. Too bad about the goon taking you out at the end.

      Thanks man. I'm not lean anymore with my fuel tuner and it still backfires a little bit. It's just the bike at that point. Unburned fuel exits the engine into the exhaust and ignites inside the header pipe causing a pop.

      I have the same bike, and brand new...mine did that a LOT too. Thought it was an issue but, it's not. I actually took it in to Kawasaki and they told me "YOU NEED TO RIDE THIS THING ! AND OPEN IT UP ! Higher revs." And honestly that's what I've been doing. • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  3 года назад +1

      I weigh 200 pounds with gear almost. My sag is set at 110 mm with 30 mm of static sag. Which mean I am almost to heavy for the stock spring but it works fine. If you are running 110 mm that will put less weight on your front end which is good for high speed stability in a straight line. If you decrease you sag to 105 mm say, that will put more weight on your front tire maki g it corner better. You can adjust your sag for your riding conditions between 100 and 110 mm or you can set it at 110 and forget it. That's what I would do because the klx300 chassis corners incredibly well without the help of less sag.

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  3 года назад +2

      When a bike runs lean ot means that there is too much air entering the engine in ratio to how much gas is present. Running rich means there is to much gas in relation to air, so the opposite of lean. The problem with running lean is it makes the engine run hotter than it should. The problem with that is that a hit engine not o ly produces less horsepower, but it also wears your engine out much faster. Your valves can loose there temper and hardness and wear out among numerous other things that will cost you a ton to fix. The only thing you need to fix this is the power commander v from dyno jet. It makes the fuel to air ratio perfect which is around 13:1. If you don't want a little extra power but want your bike to last for years then you still want the PC v. Hope this helps
