This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thinking about picking this game up and wanted to see/learn some of the more nuances as to how the game is setup and how it plays. Thanks! Will be buying this.
I haven’t played for 1 year and so came back here to remind myself how to play. This is the best explanation I’ve seen. (I do want you to play thru a campaign - you may have done this already as this is a 5 year old video!
Excellent tutorial, I've been on the fence about this game since it came out. Especially since there weren't any good tutorials. Thanks for making this. I would be interested in seeing a full campaign. As I wonder if it would be a good intro for new roleplayers.
+1 for the campaign to be run with expansion! I guess you can have at the beginning of the game Gorm to replace the Antelope and Spidicules at the 5th year
Nice tutorial ! But there's a mistake on the nemesis encounter, it is NOT a special showdown, and it's not an extra fight on that year, it replaces it.
I don't believe that is correct because if you look at the settlement board- the nemesis encounter takes places DURING the settlement phase BEFORE the survivors head out for the hunt phase. So if we say one year is made up of 3 phases (hunt, showdown and settlement). A year with a nemesis encounter will have 2 monster fights; one during the showdown phase and one during the settlement phase. Unless you can point me to some spot in the book that corrects me on that
Page 85. Quote: Complete the settlement phase normally. Departing survivors skip the next hunt phase and consult the story event for the nemesis monster to setup the showdown phase. It also talks about special showdown, that can come from events etc.
Board Games & Chill yep. During an ambush, the monster activates twice. When the players ambush the monster, they act before the monster does, then the rounds proceed as normal (monster then survivors)
Gamblers chest is just a large expansion of extra content and modules. Not an update to the ruleset or game balance, so you’re safe to nab 1.6 if you really want it and then gamblers later when it releases
one thing that I'm finding hard to understand is how the 2 dice for events work. I understand that white = tens black = first numbers so basically if I roll an 8 white and a 3 black its 83, so event 83. but how do I get 100 and 1? since the dice have 10 faces if I roll a 10 white and a 2 black is it event 102? but the max is 100 so is the number 10 on the white dice a 0? so its going to be 02, so event 2 but then how do I get 100? if I get white 0 and 10 black its going to be 010 if I do the opposite 10 white 0 black its going to be 100, but then 101 could happen. so, yeah I'm just having an hard time figuring this simple thing out somehow
"if I roll a 10 white and a 2 black" That would be a result of 2. When using two d10 to roll a percentile (1-100) the values on the dice are considered 0-9 with a roll of 10 being a 0. Then just plug in the white die value for the tens digit and the black die result for the singles digit. So white roll of 10, and black roll of 9 is a result of 09 or more simply 9. If both dice roll a 10 then the result would be 00 and since you can't roll a zero the result is 100.
This seems like a really interesting set up, but is very complicated. I wonder if it would be better suited for a phone or console based game, even a movie or series.
Just for you, I have re-rendered the video with no background music. It's a private video, so here's the link: ruclips.net/video/6ODc6hvCCRM/видео.html

How's the buying this journey going
This is a fantastic introduction. Thank you. I will be watching again. Subscribed.

Yes, Campaign please! As for expansions, your call mate!
Best guide I’ve found. Thanks!
Beautifully made tutorial. You made it very easy to understand. Thanks a lot!
Such a helpful video, thank you so much !
Thanks for this! Our channel is painting Kingdom Death live this Sunday and playing the game for the first time so this is really handy.
No problem. Good luck on your campaign. Will you be doing the default people of the lantern or the dream keepers campaign?
been a while since i have played KDM glad you have this video im ready to teach some new people the darkness that lays ahead
Amazing tutorial! Thanks for the video.

This was awesome
Bravo! Great tutorial!
I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to a campaign!

Awesome... now all I need to do is rob a bank in order to pay for this...
And yes, a play through would be cool!
Also I would love play through videos.

o0o0o0oo, you are totally right. I always took special showdowns and nemesis encounters to be synonymous, but they are not. Good catch
@@CynicallyAwesome It's easy to miss rules :D there's so many of them
Yes I would definitely like to see a campaign playthrough and me as one of the survivors :-)
wooooooow
Any planned playthrough? that would help a lot !!!
Does the monster always go first? I thought it was only on ambush. I could be very wrong I’m pretty new to KDM.

Great video. I’m think about getting 1.6 but I keep hearing about this gamblers chest thing, will this be a 1.7 or am I safe to buy1.6?
Gamblers chest is just a large expansion of extra content and modules. Not an update to the ruleset or game balance, so you’re safe to nab 1.6 if you really want it and then gamblers later when it releases
@@CynicallyAwesome Good to hear, thank you!
one thing that I'm finding hard to understand is how the 2 dice for events work.
I understand that
white = tens
black = first numbers
so basically if I roll an 8 white and a 3 black
its 83, so event 83.
but how do I get 100 and 1?
since the dice have 10 faces
if I roll a 10 white and a 2 black
is it event 102? but the max is 100
so is the number 10 on the white dice a 0?
so its going to be 02, so event 2
but then how do I get 100?
if I get white 0 and 10 black its going to be 010
if I do the opposite
10 white 0 black its going to be 100, but then 101 could happen.
so, yeah I'm just having an hard time figuring this simple thing out somehow
00 = 100, 01= 1, 10= 10
There is no “10” on a d10 (at least not when rolling for events), you treat it as a 0.
"if I roll a 10 white and a 2 black"
That would be a result of 2.
YES! KD! campaign to be!
Does this still work for 1.6?
yes. 1.6 is more of a rebalance of locations and items, not a change of ruleset
This seems like a really interesting set up, but is very complicated. I wonder if it would be better suited for a phone or console based game, even a movie or series.
More kdm please.
great GREAT vid. can you reload it with no background music? I have difficulty separating out out background music from other sounds. thanks.

Nice work. Well explained.
