    Fun fact about John Brown: While John is most famous for fighting for black rights, he was also a big supporter of women's rights as well. Since John believed that all people, regardless of race or gender, were equally loved in the eyes of god and thus needed to have equal rights under the law. He traveled miles to listen to lectures from prominent members of the women's suffrage movement like Abby Kelley Foster. He made no distinction between men and women's work in his family's household, expecting everyone to do any work they could to help the family. And he allowed his daughters to play pivotal roles in his fight against slavery, acting as spys and lookouts.

      John Brown just keeps becoming more based.
      I'm kinda pissed that my class was never told about him. (Grew up in Illinois, so I can't even blame southern propaganda.) He needs to be taught about.

    • @PonianYuptar
      @PonianYuptar Month ago +616

      Perhaps the most ironic thing about John Brown's capture is that several of the people present (namely Col. Robert E. Lee, 1st Lt. J.E.B. Stuart) would themselves commit treason against the United States, and one man present, a VMI professor named Thomas (Later more famously nicknamed Stonewall) Jackson, would later attack and capture Harpers Ferry himself during Lee's invasion of Maryland in 1862.
      And this isn't irony so much as sheer coincidence: the Sharps Rifles John Brown used were stationed in the town of Sharpsburg, Maryland, which would later be the site of the bloody Battle of Antietam, which occurred 3 days after Jackson's capture of Harpers Ferry.

    • @TheAmerican102
      @TheAmerican102 Month ago

      Lol no it's not He was just a self-hating white man who was corrupted and twisted through Christianity feeding his own self righteousness which is literally how most crazy white liberals are today. Racism is across all racial groups including by the way white liberals encoded heavily in both our conscious and subconscious behaviors How many studies have been done to show such things which is why there was a massive push years ago to rewrite the definition of racism into a race that holds power and hierarchy rather than what its original definition meant which was you and your own racist superior and others as inferior and every group does that. All he was was a self-righteous self-hating man who was racist towards his own kind as studies have shown with white liberals so no, social hierarchy and racism is hard-coded into kids and humans in general John Brown is simply just a perversion of that.

    • @existentialbunny1408
      @existentialbunny1408 Month ago +18

      Yep, kinda surprised nothing has been occuring wide scale.
      The protests of the 60s to 70s over social and civil issues/injustice was successful purely because it was aimed at the masses, the general public, not the government. Changing sentiments of the populace, not for actual government reform or restructuring.
      Protesting against this system of government literally won't work.
      Especially considering the whole individual state & federal infrastructure, so even if you happen to successfully hold a peaceful protest in a state that manages to sway the local government/ win the favor of the senator, it won't carry over to the other states. And that sole single state cannot change the entire government infrastructure of other states and the country as a whole.
      You'd have to really target federal, government, and police institutions in order for things to really make a change.
      And that is just the beginning pathway to a civil war

    • @queequegtheater6093

      @forklift21 every single Confederate leader, officer, and soldier were fighting for slavery first and foremost. Southern politicians literally made speeches about how the North was coming to free their slaves, specifically to gather support for secession.

    • @drlbjizzrespect
      @drlbjizzrespect Month ago +28

      The war was fought in the North to preserve the Union, as Lincoln did not inherently want to free slaves. It wasn’t until 1863 did Lincoln proclaim Emancipation of all Southern slaves still under the control of the Confederacy. In the South it was only fought for slavery. Also slavery basically continued, instead just being known as “sharecropping.”

    • @naomie6090
      @naomie6090 Month ago +123

      Recently learned that the notion of calling the civil war “a war of state’s rights” is a southern thing. It’s a narrative the South created to make themselves look like a victim of the war and the north as the aggressors. In a lot of southern schools, they don’t even call it the civil war

He did most likely have some mental health issues, but I’m ok with calling it God-given bravery. Nonetheless, he was not ever chill from everything I’ve read. But yes, he was demonized when people figured out they could just stop respecting civil rights in the big late 80s-early 90s conservative shift to religious values over a limited government, pro-business platform. I wasn’t a fan of the old GOP but this one is grotesque

      Announcement of Trump's defeat, a humiliating and disgraceful defeat, in this coming war, by the will of Allah, the One, the Irresistible
      Quote: “O lying fox Trump, stain on the history of the United States of America. Your fall with a resounding worldwide defeat is near. And you will know that I am the awaited Mahdi, Nasser Mohammed Al-Yamani, the fiercest enemy of the devils among jinn and men, who hate the pleasure of Allah.
      Have you not looked at the ends of the frozen earth, how the heat of the summer of Saqar has melted the ice? And if you do not see Saqar until it comes upon you suddenly, then you do see its maneuvers and indirect signs in the frozen polar regions and the devastating climate war, confirming the word of Allah the Almighty:
      بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ وَآبَاءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعُمُرُ ۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِي الْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ أَفَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ (44)
      (Surat Al-Anbiya': 44)
      The Caliph of Allah, the Mahdi, Nasser Mohammed Al-Yamani, is only an enemy to the enemies of Allah, who hate the pleasure of the Merciful and hate His Glorious Book. They are the allies of Satan. So fight the allies of the tyrant. Verily, the plot of Satan is weak. And hold fast to Allah, the Truth. Do you want to know the Truth? Glorified is He above what they attribute to Him. And Exalted is He with great Exaltation.
      We will await the execution of the commands of the Caliph of Allah, directed to the Islamic Republic of Iran. We will not abandon any Muslim, we will not abandon any peaceful disbeliever, we will not abandon any atheist Chinese who refrains from the war of the Muslims over their religion, we will not abandon the humanitarians in the world. On the contrary, we will take them as friends. We will not abandon the People of the Book who are closest to the Muslims in friendship. We will not abandon the peaceful Jews who wish to be safe from the evil of their own people and the evil of the Muslims.
      Was the Imam Mahdi, Nasser Mohammed Al-Yamani, sent by Allah except as a mercy to the worlds? Except for those who refuse the mercy of Allah; Hell is sufficient for them, and that is the worst resting place. Saqar is near to appear suddenly from the south of the earth, so that they cannot ward it off and they will receive no respite, confirming the word of Allah the Almighty:
      { وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ (٣٨) لَوۡ یَعۡلَمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ حِینَ لَا یَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ (٣٩) بَلۡ تَأۡتِیهِم بَغۡتَةࣰ فَتَبۡهَتُهُمۡ فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ (٤٠) }
      (Surat Al-Anbiya': 38-40)
      Concluding this my statement, I say: O community of Muslims, you have no choice. Either you go forth for jihad in the way of Allah to defend yourselves, your religion, and your land, or He will punish you along with those upon whom wrath descends and the disbelievers, through the passage of the planet Saqar from the south of the earth, confirming the word of Allah the Almighty:
      يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَا لَكُمْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمُ انفِرُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ اثَّاقَلْتُمْ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ ۚ أَرَضِيتُم بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مِنَ الْآخِرَةِ ۚ فَمَا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ (38) إِلَّا تَنفِرُوا يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا وَيَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلَا تَضُرُّوهُ شَيْئًا ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ (39)
      (Surat At-Tawbah: 38-39)
      And confirming the word of Allah the Almighty:
      وَإِن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا نَحْنُ مُهْلِكُوهَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ أَوْ مُعَذِّبُوهَا عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا ۚ كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِي الْكِتَابِ مَسْطُورًا (58)
      (Surat Al-Isra': 58)”

    Just so we’re clear, John Brown’s reaction was NOT an extreme reaction. Chattel Slavery is unimaginably horrific. We weren’t just overworked, starved, and beaten. It’s called chattel because we were treated like cattle but far worse. They tortured us, ate us, turned us into furniture, “bred” us. Killing racists especially during this time was the right thing to do. Being shot is mercy compared to what the enslaved experienced.

      For terroristic murders who kill people THEY deem to have moral failings? Brutha please! It's not a good road to start down.
      Yeah yeah American slavery was a whole big thing that deserved to be ended ( as per Jesus freeing slaves ) but not the way he did it. With that logic, would somewhat not be justified in going into @bort1on clinics and shooting everyone inside? Should they also get holidays? The lense of history and current attitudes is a murky, greasy, shifting thing. Just follow the teachings of Jesus and everything will go well.

      @alyww Month ago +60

      @blackerstone literally wdym.. there is NO morality behind slavery or colonisation.. don’t think you understand the degree to which slavery and colonisation were conducted or upheld.. comparing this to abortion and bringing religion into your argument is tone deaf

    • @blackerstone
      @blackerstone Month ago +1

      @alyww Well, let me " take the bait " and break down my comment so that you and others don't misunderstand my meanings.
      For morality to be subjective rather than objective, it has to have something outside of man made thought and trend to ground it. I believe the Christian bible, with catholic interpretation to be that beyond human standard. Anything else would be objective, where any random individual or groups ideas of right and wrong are just as valid as anyone else's because they're both literally making it up as they go. That is why i MUST bring religion into a comment on morality.
      That then leads to the abortion comparison. intentionally Killing unborn children for your own convenience, by the catholic standard is wrong, as is being a slave holder. However in America only 1 of these is seen as problematic due to current culture trends that could shift within a generation. Is it not obvious then why i did it that way to show the error of OP's train of thought?
      Oh, and you're only half correct anyways. There is no morality for the concept of slavery However, individual slave holders COULD be moral. It's a lot more complicated than " you owned slaves, you're inherently evil and destined for hell-fire "
      Even more so with Colonisation where the concept is actually base moral and just, but that execution on the part of individual colonizers was frequently bad.
      TLDR?
      BOW YOUR HEAD HEATHEN DOG TO THE NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES!

    There’s something really comforting about Gary’s story. When I told my dad that his best friend’s son had been molesting me for years every time they came over, my dad acted sympathetic, but made excuses for the boy. Most likely because he didn’t want a falling out with his best friend, and my dad was also caught doing some horrible shit of his own with his students. It’s nice to know that many dads would’ve had a stronger, more protective reaction.

    During his trial, his lawyer attempted to plead the insanity defense. In response, John Brown offered to take as many tests as needed to prove his sanity because he would rather die then have abolitionism be considered proof of insanity.

      He was an outright hero and we should all be following his example with the racist trash of today throwing people in concentration camps and murdering for their color or disagreeing with their cruelty.

      Africans should be glad that John Brown did not go to Africa in the past several thousand years. He would have seen how much slavery existed there with black people enslaving black people since the beginning of time.
      Half of that continent would have been eradicated.
