Scouts are great. My grandmother hold one that I used to move with a trailer for a new job a few hours away from home after getting out of the military. Had the 345 V8 with all power and A/C. Not sure what happened to it?

You didn’t finish a sentence. Door sag, that means….. What were you about to say? I need that thought!
My drivers door has the beginnings of that sag. It looks like the bottom hinge pin or the hinge itself is wallowed out. Is that repairable?

I had a 74 two-wheel drive with a Jeep 258 straight six. I put on the newer Aluminum Intake with the Weber carburetor and an hei. It was two wheel drive with a granny gear four speed and a factory trac-lok rear end. Disc Brakes and p.s from the factory. I bought it from a garage sale for 600 and sold it six months later on eBay for 3500. They drove it all the way back to South Dakota from mn. It was the metallic bronze color. Vinyl jump seats out front and Grandma's couch material in the back

Every time I see anything related to Scouts, I get this feeling of regret for selling my '79 Rallye. It would have been sweet by now.

@@anythingscout I bought some parts parts from you back in '96 or so,when you were in Cali.. My '79 was originally a 345, but someone had swapped a 304 into it before I bought it. Thing went like a rocket clear up to about 65 mph top speed...... I needed a pair of air injection heads because I was stationed in Cali., and it needed to pass emissions there. It would be cool to get another, but now I'm pretty heavily into the XJ Cherokees.

If you have power on the negative side of the coil it just means the points are closed and power is flowing through the coil. When the points open there will be no power at the negative side. If the light doesn't flash while cranking the engine it means the points are not opening or there's a short to ground somewhere between the coil and the points. That's how you can set the timing. Set the points to the correct gap, put the engine on the timing mark, hook your test light from ground to the negative side of the coil, depending on the rotation you turn the distributor just until the light goes out, meaning that's the point where it fires.Tighten the distributor. If you put a timing light on it and I guarantee it'll be very close if not right on. For those that don't know the coil fires when the points open, not when they close. Wish I had kept at least one of the four scouts I've owned over the years. Bought 2 new. I know at one point power steering became standard equipment but I don't know what year. Had a 78 4 cylinder with power steering, but it still had the big steering wheel like the manual. The two different 80 models I owned had tilt steering and a smaller steering wheel.

A nearly perfect original interior, uniquely optioned and it runs. Yeah it needs a lot of rust repair but it can be brought back. My 73, with a similarly intact interior, is nearly as rusty but I'm willing to make the investment to save it.

We may decide to save it! I’ll get it running and driving and make that decision!

I owned one of the rarest if not the rarest models of the factory made Scouts from 1974. It was a six with an automatic and two wheel drive. A custom order for a vineyard owner. It was fully restored before I bought it. In mint condition and having only 37,500 original miles, I drive it for a fee years before the two wheel drive left me in trouble. Decided I needed four wheel drive and sold it for what I got it for. Now $100k easy. The one that got away, albeit for good reason.

That one that is "beyond rescue" is still in better shape than my old beater scout, lol. Mine has so much rust you can practically fold the fenders into the bed. And I had it stored somewhere for a while, without the transmission & cover, and some animal crapped all over inside. Also, some tweakers got into it and started a fire I assume from their crack/meth pipe. They left some clothing and alcohol for me.

A few years ago most people would walk away from this. Today as these become more rare people are willing to take on the rust.
