    This was a fascinating interview with great info. I'm a Messianic Israelite but I study ancient/ eastern Orthodox church history, very intriguing!

    Great topic and Dr. Salim Faraji offers an illuminating and intriguing account of the roots of Nubian Christianity that has unfortunately been relegated to the marginal periphery of historical and archaeological studies. The interviewer however, could have done a much better job by actually reading the entirety of the book which would have helped him structure his questions and the discussion. Nevertheless, super interesting.

    Commending this interview that enlightens the Copts and the world on the Golden era when Nubia (land of gold) was the diamond in the Alexandrian ecclesiastic crown. the only other book which elaborates on Christianity and Nubia is "Christ in Christian tradition Vol 2, Part 4

    "Nubia had a reputation for very good Archers"
    Well I think it's about time we saw some Nubian Archers in the Fate/ franchise.

    If you interview the man about his book, you should at least have read the book. 300 something pages isn't nothing, but you can do that in a few days.

    To the interviewer Coptic means “white” and Nubian means “black”. He may not now about the miscegenation of Egypt under so many different ruler ships.

      The words Coptic and Nubian have nothing to do with race or color. These are geographic, linguistic, and cultural identifiers. The Copts spoke Coptic and lived in Egypt, having an Egyptian culture. The Nubians spoke Nubian and lived in Northern Sudan, and had a unique culture now mostly extinct. This has nothing to do with race or color.

      flower1921 Hi, there is no difference really. i dont know about the syrian church. but as a coptic, i know we are brother and sisters in one church.
      ethiopians/eritreans and coptics share the same church and faith (being the oldest christian churches in africa.

      +flower1921 Syriac church is very close to the Coptic, in the perception of monophysitism. Both were outlawed by Byzantium because of their belief in the nature and person of Christ as God in one and the same time. Ethiopians I think have both Coptic church and Greek orthodox present. The same is for Syria as the majority are Greek orthodox. But the Syriac orthodox are also numerous.
      Syriac church still have the language of liturgy as Syriac which is the same as Aramaic, which is the language of Jesus Christ. They still speak the language as well, which is not the case with the copts.

    the title should've been " Nubian Civilization " not Coptic civilization , Nubians were NEVER coptics , Nubian kingdom of Makuria didn't follow the coptic church.

    • @amarosea
      @amarosea 5 лет назад +11

      Well in this context Coptic doesn't just refer to Egyptian ethnicity but also to the Christian Church. Nubian Christianity developed alongside Coptic Christianity over centuries was influenced by it and shared many of its beliefs and practices. In fact the Coptic language was one of three literary languages that were used throughout Christian Nubia alongside local Nubian languages and Greek. As for Dotawo (Makuria in Greek) it initially adopted Byzantine Christianity but by the 7th century it adopted Coptic Christianity and came under the spiritual authority of the Coptic Church of Alexandria. This doesn't mean that the Christian Nubian states weren't politically distinct and independent from Coptic Egypt, but was a 'sister' church much like the Ethiopian Church.

    the title should be, "the Coptic religion." that's like saying the Catholic civilization, or the Islamic civilization, or the baptis Christian civilization. etc.. I just sound dumb.

    Christianity or the name Christ did not come about until 500 years after Jesus died! The Bible says that the name christ was first mentioned in the city of Antioch in Rome. Constantine forced all of Rome to believe in the concept of Jesus being the son of God rather than a Prophet of God in order to stop the internal fighting that had the Empire split down the middle. Christianity is not an African Religion, never was! So it would be impossible for Nubian to be Christian before 1,500 years ago because the name didn't even exist then! And like it was said in the video the Nubians converted under Rome for protection from the Islamic Empire, so it was out of fear of being overthrown lol.

      Any one who can read beyond a first grade level knows that Africans we're amongst if not the first Christians.
