  • Israel’s spiritual deliverance - vv. 10-14
Holy Spirit falls upon God’s people (v. 10a)
Response in sorrowful repentance (v. 10b)
    The national revival (vv. 11-14)
During the last half of Daniel’s 70th week (9:24-27; expanded in Rev 4-19), the “little horn” (Dan 7:8), “the prince who is to come” (9:26), “the man of lawlessness” (2 Thess 2:3), “the antichrist” (1 John 4:3), a man, who will be controlled by Satan, will determine to annihilate the nation of Israel. In fact, every believer who names the name of Jesus Christ will be targeted. God will assemble “all the nations” against Israel (Zech 12:3) and when all hope seems overpowered/crushed, Yahweh will “strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness” (v. 4; Rev 19:11-19), then “I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of supplication” (v. 10a), individual repentance and national revival, “then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts . . .” (v. 5), “in that day I will make the clans of Judah like a fiery laver . . . and a fiery torch . . .” (v. 6), God will save the “tents of Judah first” and the “house of David” (v. 7), “Yahweh will defend/shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem” (v. 8), and God “will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem” (v. 9). The “house of David” and the “inhabitants of Jerusalem . . . will mourn for him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn” (v. 10b,c).
