- On June 12th, 1988, CSX Train #54 moves past the UP Diamond in Mt. Vernon, IL and Precision National Corp's Facilty. PNC is now NRE-Mt. Vernon. This line is the Former Louisville and Nashville's Louisville to St. Louis Line. It lasted as a through route for CSX until the early to mid-90's, when the Oakawville-East St. Louis section of the line was abandoned. The Remainder of the line, from Evensville, Indiana to Oakawville, Illinois, lasted under CSX ownership until 2006, when the Evansville and Western took over Operations.

That brings back childhood memories. My favorites were the Uceta GP16 rebuilds.
Nice video! Love the old school CSX lashup and the now fallen flag freight equipment especially the B&O grain hopper at 2:56! Absolutely love that!
Mount Vernon is also historic in that the operator there copied the last train order issued on the NS. Order #33 which annulled order #15 on April 4, 1993 at 12:01pm CDT. This was the end of timetable and train order operation on NS. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Nice seeing railroading as I remember it.
All those colors, roads, 4-axle road power, and caboooses. The glory days.
Even by 1988 cabooses were rare..
Did it have a caboose because it was going thru a state that still had a caboose requirement law?
Trains looked so much better with cabooses.
I miss the old l,n seaboard lines 😢😢😢😢
Now THAT's what I grew up railfanning! Keep the great old videos coming!!!
I miss the old Chessie kitten logo. Nice seeing it here!
Suzanne Gillespie in Athens Georgia there's a chessiesystem high hood still in chessie paint
Man, that brings back memories. Used to live near there and railfan there frequently.
That second geep is losing her turbocharger!
You hardly see and EMD lash up like that now a days, all GEs!!
Great video! Always could see foreign power on this line. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Very nice. You don't see cabooses on trains nowadays. Also, I used to live in Mt. Vernon until I was about 3 so it was cool seeing this video.
nice vid jim! the quality is really good being from 1988
there is a nice lashup Jim!
Nice to see the MRS beer cars. I miss the Manny!
I saw a Thrall all door car! Those are rare!
holy crap awesome!
Sweet RS3L
this train came of the Alton&Southern 😁😁😁
Erik Max Q - Mcc Actually, this train is westbound to St. Louis.
is there any footage of the L and N line thru Belleville I'll???
6:04 Was that ATSF car a regular autorack or a Vert a Pac car?
How many cars long was this train?
so sad i really hated CSX GOT RID OF THIS LINE TO FORGO THE OLD B &O LINE the L&N SEABOARD LINE THE HAD MORE TRAFFIC AND MORE SENEREY
They had too much main line capacity and too little traffic to fit the demands of the number crunchers down in Jacksonville, sadly.
Even The ex B&O Line Was Downgraded When CSX Acquired Conrail's Indianapolis To St. Louis Line And Diverted All Traffic West Of Evansville From Using The Old B&O Line West Of Vincennes, IN To The Old Conrail Line West Of Terre Haute Due To The Latter Having Centralized Traffic Control.
cool vid
Did you happen to work at Precision?
It looked like the SCL autorack had the top ripped off.
