    Thank you for sharing your skills with us, Mikko! I am using the splicing with a footrope knot to make the loop end of hanging cords for pictures. I unravel the tails & comb them out for a tassel. I'm really pleased with the way they are turning out. Thank you!

    I had to come up with this on my own years ago and it’s VERY reassuring that a professional does nearly identically the same thing. Only thing I do differently is a crown knot before I start splicing the hand loop. I can pull everything tighter and keeps the line from idling through and bunching up. (By NO MEANs saying mine or yours is better or worse, just differences).

    Very nice Mikko, and practical too. We have a pair of rescued greyhounds who will be at the end of these leashes when I make them. Perfect, and thank you for this timely tutorial.

    I have made a few of these. It's a great pattern to follow. My dog likes a slip lead, so instead of the back splice finished with a Matthew Walker, I made a small eye splice, finished with the MW, and pulled the body of the leash though. Works great. I have also used this pattern to finish a monkey's fist heaving line: splicing the ends of the monkey's fist and finishing with a MW, and then adding an eye splice on the other end, finished with a footrope knot. Thanks Mikko! I look forward to getting the line, tool, and kits I ordered.

    Happy New Year Mikko I am 81 yrs old and I felt that I was pretty good at tying knots, but I purchased an ipad awhile ago and I was browsing around and I came across knot tying by Mikko Snellman I am amazed and flabbergasted at what I have seen you do and that I am Long way from knowing how to tie knots. I watch your knot tying for about six (6) hours almost every day. Keep up the magneficant work it leaves me in awe every day. Where do you buy all your working tools. And also where to purchase your book.🏡🌲☃️🏘️

    Is there a simple way to do the math of how much rope you need to make a certain length leash? And to know how much to unravel for the splicing and knots?

    • @mikkosnellman
      @mikkosnellman  Год назад

      No, there isn´t. It all depends on your dimensions of the rope, loop and length of the splice. As rule of thumb for me is the length of finished leash + 1 meter for splices and knots.

      You can tie any kind of stopper knot for decoration. Here I showed just two alternatives. Depending on your rope material it can be a good idea to do one more tuck after the knot and tie whipping before cutting the strands.
