This was amazing to watch! Sixty years ago, starting my senior year of high school, I was a band geek. We did a lot of moving drill, because the stands were too low for formations to be recognised, and drone-mounted cameras were not a thing even in sci-fi. We did not march sideways or backwards. All of this is just to say that these kids are beyond amazing. I remember just how diligently we rehearsed each of our football half time shows. ( Football at Seminole High was so that there would be half time for the band, you realise.) This performance is galaxies removed from what we could do.
Intriguing. Music sounds great for being so early. I hope the director/design team add the traditional phantom kick, kneel + kick out, and the chevron at some point!
I can definitely see the need for more visual work- there seems to be a lot of down time where things are not moving but it's a great start. We all know what we see now and what we see during finals week are very different things.
@@ZeroEditsWeightlifitng Yes....that's much closer to what Regiment did. 83-84 Garfield...I think 03, THOSE are Z-pulls for me. Hell...we even did one in 86 Dagenham Crusaders in the UK (although I was on cymbals and the Z was in the brass)

The quality of music is stupendous. But the routines.... how in the world do they put this together, memorize their steps and play music at the same time?! Amazing.
Love the recording and video quality. Years ago, we could have only dreamed about something like this before finals. Horns are sounding good already. Lots of parking and blowing instead of playing while marching, but I'm sure they'll add more stuff to the show. Judges during my years would have destroyed our scores if we only mostly played while parked, but I know times have changed and now the shows are more like modern dance/theater.
Holy fucking shit I haven't seen a show as good as this in a fucking decade No superfluous props or extra distracting instruments or prerecorded audio The stage props are minimal and entirely functional and placed out of the way when needed instead of taking up tons of room with big thematic billboards Just raw drum corps at their finest I cannot wait to see how they push this through the season Holy shit
Phantom 03 - being classic... today is a weird time... while I harkens a strength of the thousands PR, thay certainly wasn't their "classic" heritage lol
Keep in mind that this is an early show. Things will doubtless be changing in the visual department so y'all who get something out of it, (I can't being blind and all) will appreciate the final product. Good music though although a lot more electronic than usual I have to admit.
No, it's not are you kidding me? This sounds NOTHING like the Phantom Regiment that I remember from the 2000's. That being said, it's a heck of a lot better than last year.
I tend to like the early 2000 to 2010s DCI shows and I think the narration and props have been over used recently, but Phantom has gotten it right this time! For being so early in the year, they already sound great and the props really enhance rather than distract. It still has the classical element that is distinctly Phantom and yet the jazz parts do not sound out of place at all. This can be a top five show by that time. Great work!
Such amazing complexity, so many things going on at once yet, all coordinated and none of it "normal" by any standard I can think of. Whoever choreographed this is a brilliant madman. These people must have worked on this many hours a day for many days to the point of exhaustion and perfection. There must be a sense of Comradeship they will remember and compare to everything else they do, for the rest of their lives. Good on them all!!!
Nice Phantom! Way to go. This is a strong start and I like that this is a very Avant Guard show. Really reminds me of Santa Clara 2018, but in its own unique way. I like the drill throughout but especially appreciate the rotating box that spins out and then closes with what feels like a mini z-pull. Not sure if this was a tip of the cap to The Cadets, but it's great writing. The battle of the 2 soloists is fantastic, and those two play incredibly well. There is a LOT of potential in this show. It's not a classic Phantom Regiment show in the Tchaikovsky sense of Romantic music from the late 1800s. It feels modern and cutting edge. Interested to see this with the uniforms. Keep pushing Regiment. This will go as far as you want to take it. Just on a first read I really like it. Looking forward to seeing this live.
What familiar and cohesive show music the crowd can enjoy. Not muddled with a bunch of talking, whispering, and props. Can't wait to see them by finals! They should make top six. Definitely creates a mood.
