- A former head of the standards watchdog is urging for a thorough police investigation into the tax dispute involving the sale of Angela Rayner's council house ten years ago.
Sir Alistair Graham, who chaired the committee for standards in public life from 2003 to 2007, supports Greater Manchester Police's recent decision to reinvestigate whether Rayner, the deputy Labour leader, violated electoral laws a decade ago.
The controversy revolves around the tax obligations related to Rayner's sale of her home in Stockport, Greater Manchester, in 2015, particularly regarding capital gains tax and her residency status at the time.
Initially, police stated they wouldn't investigate Rayner, but James Daly, a deputy Conservative Party chairman, criticised the decision, alleging that relevant documents weren't considered and witnesses weren't contacted.

She was already investigated a few years back over her expenses and they found she had kitted her self out with all new Apple products including phone ,I pad ,laptop and ear plugs and she said she was entitled

This is all about 'Integrity'. Politicians, particularly those in a senior position, need to be as white as the driven snow otherwise they leave themselves wide open. Rayner has taken a clear stand in relation to the activitiess of other politicians and thereby created a standard by which others AND HERSELF need to be judged.
I am frankly surprised that HMRC are not invovled. They don't normally mess about.

Like a lot of politicians she is so stupid. It is a relatively small amount of money involved, what she should have done is as soon as the story broke was say "really sorry, I'm not a tax expert, I didn't realise, how much do I owe and I'll pay it immediately". That would have quickly diffused the issue and she would have come out of it with her head held high. But no, like a lot of politicians, she is incapable of taking responsibility and doubles-down, thereby creating a bigger mess for herself.
