- In this video I cover all the kit for an overseas wildlife photography trip from camera gear to backup equipment. Traveling by plane throws up some challenges, in this vlog I cover the compromises needed in terms of photography equipment for a wildlife photography trip abroad.

Congratulations mate on reaching 5000 subscribers - well deserved. Sounds like you have booked yourself a fantastic trip and I hope that you get lots of great shots / videos. I have a Lowepro 400 AW 2 bag and that is just allowable on most flights with my Z8, 180 - 600, 2 pairs of binoculars and camera accessories. Have a great time Steve .

@@SteveHedgesPhotography Look out for Jonathan they are a bit sporadic but apparently they have trail cameras everywhere and dump you in the nearest hide . Good luck don't get eaten.
Good stuff Steve..Just for your information, with the Z8 you can charge the battery in the camera with a phone charger with a USB-C cable.. Happened to me, I forgot my charger on a trip 🙈, saved the day..🤣 Have a great trip, watch those bears...Cheers, Robert.

I had a trip to/from (overland by train so no restrictive weight limits) and around Slovenia from 18th May to 3rd June this year (2024). It is an unbelievably stunning and beautiful country with its huge mountains and extensive forests 😍
My trip included a 3-day photography package with Miha Mlakar’s Slovenian Bears (you didn’t say who you were using) and we had amazing and extended views of Brown Bears of various ages, including a mother and 2 tiny cubs, on each day from 3 different locations 😁. I had seen Brown Bears previously on trips to Finland but my Slovenia experience was easily the best for the number of Brown Bears seen, the lengthy views and the easy photography opportunities.
Us Essex folk don't see too many Brown Bears on our local patches 😂 so, like me, I hope you have an incredible and rewarding time .... I look forward to seeing the video to prove it 🙂

Yes it is Slovenian Bears we are going with, fingers crossed we see as many bears as you did. So looking forward to the trip. You're right bears are a bit thin on the ground in Essex. Thanks for getting in touch. All the best Steve.

I am pleased to hear that you are with Slovenian Bears. I can not recommend them highly enough. In my opinion, the package is very good value for money with excellent accommodation, 3 meals per day and 3 x 6 hour sessions in the Brown Bear hides. You will be well looked after by Miha (the business owner), Lenart (one of the other guides) and Hana (who cooks, serves and drives!)
Although it is not included in the package price, I would also recommend the reflection pool hide at Mlakar’s Guesthouse, both evening and morning (Miha charged us only 30 euros per session, somewhat lower than the website price). I had exceptional views/photo opportunities of Hedgehogs, Red Squirrels, Hawfinches, Willow Tits and commoner woodland birds …. plus a very brief sighting of a Stone Marten.
If you want any other tips or advice, please ask.

Yes all the staff here are wonderful, what a great set up.
We were able to include the reflection pool hide in the package and that's been brilliant too.

@@SteveHedgesPhotography I was a little tempted as I was by the Lumix S5ii but those full frame lenses are bloody expensive and then I would have to change all my kit too!
@@JoeMaranophotography Hi Joe, yes the problem isn't it? We've all got loads of lenses which would need changing as well. That's one of the reasons I stuck with Nikon to be honest.
Good luck for your trip Steve. Out of interest, which camo cover set did you get for your 180-600 and would you recommend it?
Thanks very much Alan, really looking forward to it. The cover is a Rolan Pro Realtree Max5. I would absolutely recommend this cover. It's tricky to fit because it is a very tight fit but that is a good thing because it really does stay in place. All the best Steve.
