Dear Dr, thank you for your wonderful videos! If I may ask: my husband has ADHD and hyperthyroidism (so L-tyrosine is off the table), what would you recommend for him? Low dopamine (depression), low energy, struggles to focus, mind jumps like a monkey, difficult to fall asleep and wakes up mid sleep (so he uses cannabis right before bed which I guess doesn’t help his memory but helps to sleep (he has the license, it’s legal here)…Mucuna p. 500mg/morning doesn’t do anything unfortunately.. Rhodiola stopped working… Gingko biloba doesnt do much for focus… Highly appreciate your time and help, thank you 🙏
Juliana, Mucuna Pruriens provides a low dose of L-DOPA which is not a reliable way to increase dopamine. L-Tyrosine 500 mg twice per is better. My full protocol for ADHD can be seen in this video: pulse.ly/ogmycuoeg3. Go to my website for the transcript of that video as well.
hi! glad you left the comments open! Is there any product from your list that can be taken in the late afternoons when there is this drop in the motivation but you still need to work until late. thanks!
I’ve been trying to supplement with various vitamins and nootropics to deal with my many chronic symptoms, from lack of motivation, insane weight gain, stiffness, depression, sluggishness, etc. I’m taking l-tyrosine along with l-theanine in the morning thinking that will help me with alertness and motivation but I get sleepy and will go back to sleep after a couple of hours of being awake. Then I thought maybe I’m not taking enough l-tyrosine so I doubled the dose this morning and the same thing happened. I slept like a log from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm! I ordered iodine, alphic gpc, fish oil, aniracetam and pramiracetam and will get them by Monday. So why do you think is happening to me? Btw, I’m getting miraculous results sans the motivation. I can finally sleep at night, zero body stiffness, zero irritation, zero depression, zero anxiety. (Probably from the other supplements I’m taking. Ashwagandha, B6, zinc, probiotics, D3 + K, magnesium oil).
Diane, L-Tyrosine is a potent way to increase dopamine. And L-Theanine also helps your brain release more dopamine so it sounds like you are using too much of either or both of them.
I like your videos very much as they are very informative. I already taken liquid iodine daily but the 11 others chemicals you mentioned are new to me. Where can I get them ?
David, the original transcript for this video is here: nootropicsexpert.com/hacking-motivation-with-nootropics. That page includes links to each nootropic supplement and every one has a section near the bottom on what to buy and often where to get it.
So. I just bought some aniracetam., because I have bad anhedonia. I also have L-tyrosine, Sam-e. As well as vitamin B complex with Magnesium and Zinc. So, would I need Rhodiola? Aniracetam should be a one stop shop, with the activation of the AMPA receptors, Correct? Am I missing any supplements? What would you recommend? Btw, thank you for all your hard work on your videos. They are so well done. Every one of them!
Go back to 04:36 in this video where I talk about activating AMPA receptors. You can do that with anyone of the racetams, Resveratrol or Rhodiola Rosea.
I just changed career,,, I started doing trading ,,, although I understand the subject while I’m studying it,,, I can NOT get myself to actually start on my computer to go through it. Everyday I postpone it to another day ,,, what product do you suggest I use ? Thanks

Hello, thank you for the amazing video! I have the following question: I'm new to nootropics and so far I only use caffeine + l-theanine. I would like to add l-tyrosine to it for the dopamine boost, what else can I add, to activate Glutamate AMPA-receptors? I wish to stick to natural sources for now, I'm kind of anxious to start using synthetic nootropics like racetams and noopept.
Petar, your caffeine + L-Theanine stack needs L-Tyrosine and a B-Complex to provide the most benefit. And you can use Rhodiola Rosea at activate AMPA receptors.
you're good.Ii can't take adderal anymore because I had a heart attack a few years ago, 4, the Maharishi Ayurveda stuff is all great and the rasayanas do make a lasting change , as they say. noe I take bacopa and gotu kola daily for my brane. L theanine works good too and helps me get to sleep if I take it without black tea. stared taking sam-e, calmer. cool glasses, cool hair, vatta type ?
I cannot suggest anything in particular when using antipsychotics. Because of contraindications between some nootropics and the drugs you are using. But the principal remains the same. You need to activate AMPA receptors as well as raise dopamine. This is the original transcript for this video: nootropicsexpert.com/hacking-motivation-with-nootropics/. Choose a supplement from that page to activate AMPA receptors. And then a couple of others to boost dopamine. Then use the drug interaction checker here: www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html. Search for each drug you are using. And look at the list of drugs and supplements that you should NOT take while using the drug.

@@shonasaror90 the only way to boost motivation from a neuroscience perspective is to increase dopamine levels in the brain while activating AMPA receptors. Which I try to describe in this video. The simplest way to do that is raise dopamine with L-Tyrosine and activate AMPA receptors with something like Rhodiola Rosea. But you need to check and make sure neither of those are contraindicated with the meds she is using.
Addrex, Adrafinil is a prodrug of Modafinil. So it takes longer to work. It appears to be safe but it is a prescription drug in many countries. And it's one the list of banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency. So I consider Adrafinil and Modafinil "smart drugs" and not natural nootropic supplements. Which is why I've not done a full review of them. We have natural alternatives available which work. And any one can buy them in most countries without a prescription at their local vitamin shop.
Scott, none of the racetams have been shown to help with Bipolar Disorder. But NAC and CoQ10 have shown to help. There's likely some others as well. I suggest doing a search of NootropicsExpert.com using the search function above the top menu bar. And search for the keyword "bipolar". See what else turns up.
Because a malfunctioning thyroid which is often caused by not enough iodine results in poor cognition, difficulty learning, problems with recall, depression, anxiety and certainly a lack of motivation.
Are you referring to a racetam-headache? If so, it's a very localized headache in certain brain regions from not using enough of a choline supplement when using any of the racetams.
Scott, there have been no reports of toxicity. But it's likely because when used at recommended dosages they are safe. And there is no point in overdosing any of them because it brings zero benefit if you try it.
Rohdiola helped my bipolar type II depression 80 percent. With 200mg to 1500mg a day usually 600 to 800mg a day
I'd love to see you and Dave Asprey on a talk show....
