I love how small, niche businesses thrive in Italy, and Europe in general. In Canada, all the small independently owned businesses are being pushed out, while big franchises and corporations are taking over. It's really sad. So many of our main streets have empty store fronts and shopping is done through Amazon, or in a one stop shop area with big box stores. I haven't felt joy while shopping for a very long time. And the small businesses that do manage to stay afloat have to charge so much for their goods and services because real estate, rent, taxes, interest rates are all through the roof. You guys are really lucky. And watching you shop brings me joy :)
Same in the states, higher rent, food and almost everything.😢 But, we the people are the guilty ones because we buy everything on line, we don’t want to go outside and look for it, we want the easy way. So, in the end less people buying things in the small stores that some of them have to go out of business.
Becoming like that in the UK as well.
Yes, Canada has become colourless,boring, and expensive.

Lighter, more subtle colors on the cushions are perfect. Looks elegant way more expensive! No more ugly!
Softer, gentler painted wood colors and fabric cushions for a transformation. Wood is structurally studier with comfy cushions as well. D.I.Y. is the best!

The ugly furniture turned out to be marvelous...the entire house is becoming very charming.
The 'ugly garden furniture' now looks great! Seriously - it has far more personality than a contemporary garden furniture has. I think the colous of the wood and reupholstered cushions are very classic, cal, welcoming and will feel very cooling in the heat of the summer. The furniture is a delightful mix of your personalities and while it was initially somewhat unattractive, it now a delight. Cheers to the two of you on making your patio so inviting.
It’s just gotten so crazy, the price of patio furniture. Even my parents said their last set was as much as their first formal dining room set 😮

Shows the difference between the way men and women think. Nicki wants it more hidden so it doesn't ruin the aesthetics of the room and Carlo wants it to be very visible so it can be found when needed 😂

I don't think Carlo appreciated being screamed at by Nicki, who shows their dogs more respect than she does to good-natured Carlo. All she had to do was quietly let him know that she would prefer the flyswatter remain where it had been.

My parents would speak to eachother in the same way and so do my husband and I. We both have logical but different ways of doing things. It's done more in humour than in anger.
A perfect example of the fact that men think about practicality & women think about aesthetics.
Carlo, you were SO right to buy the ugly furniture. It looks absolutely fabulous now. The new upholstery and chalk paint makes it look much more expensive than it is. Very classy & elegant, and the perfect set for your beautiful patio! ❤

Hi Nikki and Carlos. 😊 when changing out your cushion covers , take a large black plastic garbage bag ,put the cushion in it , with the opening of the bag going into your cover first ,feed into the cover,once in just pull the bag out. It stops the struggle, as it makes the cushion slippery. 😊

My husband and I look forward to Sundays when we watch your latest videos together. He's a Carlo fan and is interested in watching Carlo's projects. My husband also relates to Carlo which is part of his enjoyment watching your videos. Watching this video a bit ago, my husband said "what's wrong with where Carlo hung the fly swatter?" I replied, "I agree with Nicki. Nobody wants to see a fly swatter in plain sight." My husband asks "why?" It's true - men are from Mars, women are from Venus! Thanks for our weekly chuckles!

It’s better than Chelsea, this is the entire community bringing flowers and food . What happiness! Look at Carlos face, he wants a truck to take it all home.
I saw some videos of Chelsea flower show with Josie, which was stunning.
It DOES appear that Carlo is loving life in Tuscany doesn't it? But then he strikes me as a joy seeking being! It will be interesting to see if they start spending more time in Tuscany than in Positano. I'm sure they are missing friends and family but not those steps!! 🙂

Hard to leave such a beautifully accomplished house and surrounding Tuscany landscapes and activities, even though your Positano palace, and 500 stairs, is a beauty too. Enjoying the contrast immensely!
I think the old couch set turned out beautiful! Color and cushion made all the difference.
I think the furniture is quaint and very charming, very inviting. I totally see why Carlo got it. It was extremely inexpensive; very comfortable, and had potential. You said the outdoor furniture was very expensive there, so it was very practical to get a temporary, inexpensive set until you were ready to invest in your ideal, permanent set. Being flexible can open our eyes to possibilities that we would never have considered, but end up wonderful opportunities!
I will bet you that while you are gone, those former owners come for some of their things- not because they need them, but to be nosy. I wish you could put some trail cameras out to watch them if they show up. They are like a pimple on your a$$ that never goes away, but you know the possibility of them popping up to get their stuff is always there. Sorry, but I don’t trust them. They are shady and extremely inconsiderate.

I've been taking magnesium glycinate and riboflavin to keep away the migraines - vision and pain. Haven't had a pain or an aura in the year I've been taking these two supplements.
Wow the patio furniture came out beautifully, and the lamp shades are gorgeous, the weather is changing here also, starting to get warm and humid but that’s what is good about summer to warm up some old bones….until next week guys!

Oh my goodness, I have fallen in love with Italy, particularly Tuscany. My late brother lived in Rome, and he took beautiful photos of various areas of this beautiful country.

As nice as some more 'modern' pieces of furniture are, you have good, solid, wooden furniture that, hopefully, will last, and has been well loved before. Good buy Carlos I knew they had great potential, here that set will cost thousands of dollars especially real wood, those seat will last you a lifetime. For those persons who said you should have burnt that furniture set, they obviously have no imagination for you have transformed it into something really beautiful. I wonder what the bagpipe players were doing in your neck of the woods. Whatever, it was sweet music to my ears perhaps because I'm Scottish!. As more proof, I've just baked a batch of shortbread well you're going to have to take my word for it. It's amazing what you've done to your house in so little time, it's starting to look absolutely gorgeous, just goes to show that with great taste and hard work what's possible.. It's wonderful seeing the dogs out and about enjoying so much space to run about in. You made, in my opinion, a great choice. Have a great time in Positano.
Luckily Nicki was willing and skilled enough to take on the work to transform it.
I like how the chalk paint soften some of the dark and heavy carving and yet the wood frames still give the impression of loving room rather than garden furniture. The woven reed rug still gives the rattan suite look that Nicki was originally hoping for. So an effective melding of your choices that don't come across as a compromise. Your lampshade choices will really dress up your bedrooms and kitche. Well done!

My parents had this set in their log cabin in the eighties. If my mother could have known how great it would look painted and recovered! This furniture lives on in my brothers log cabin. Definitely built to last. You did a great job.
