When you collimate your primary mirror you better loosten the white locking screws first because if you don't you could warp your mirror cell. Also when tigthtning the locking screws just make them snug not tight

I just bought this 8 inch telescope, used.
It seems new. The quality looks more like a Cadillac than my 10 inch Orian.
I can use some advice. The 10 inch Orian I used to have seemed lighter than this 8 inch one here. Added to this, without moving the base of the Orian, I was able to grip the whole assembly to move it over curbs or rocks. At some point, a tree branch blocks my view. I don't want to remove the telescope from the base, if it's just a few feet here and there.
Is it possible to buy a used or new lighter base, easy to grip for this telescope. Would a base from a different brand be Workable?
Or, with this base, if I cut the central areas of the sides, would the base still have the integrity to not cause the telescope to shake?
How are you able to move a short distance the whole assembly?
A separate but minor issue. I need an adapter for the eyepiece to be extended further out. This was not an issue with the Orian.
Is this because the focal length is fast.
I prefer a long slow focal length because there's more leave way in not having to culminate.. I might not be using the exact terms.

Great video. I currently own an 8" dobsonian. But I am upgrading to a 12"inch dobsonian in a few days. 8inch Dobsonian are very good sized reflectors they provide great views of the planets, star clusters etc, from an 8inch dob the stars become amazing because you can now use a "wide view lens" becomes fun. Although I am very intrigued as to what my 12" dob will reveal in a few days. This should be very interesting.

I know this is a very old comment on a very old video but did you get the 12”? How much better is it?? I currently have an 8” as well and I’m thinking about an upgrade.

Along with the collimator the other selling points for me was the right angle finders scope, 2 speed crayford focuser and the roller bearing base plate and not a friction like all the others I looked at.

I didn't know about lining up the finderscope, so thanks for that. That's why we couldn't see what we were looking at in the finderscope. My question is do we need to buy a Barlow lens to see Saturn and Jupiter, or can you see them with the 9mm lens? If I need a Barlow lens, which do you recommend, the 2X or 5X?

Just purchased this after nearly pulling the trigger on the sky watcher thanks to this video. I like the concept of a truss scope, but more bang for your buck in this kit, although i'm not sure the moon filter is included anymore. Thanks

Amazing video man. I'm currently looking into astronomy and its so fascinating and interesting. I've been interested in telescopes recently so this review really sold me on the Zhumell Z8 Dobsonian Telescope.
    Thanks again!

Apertura, seems to have the best overall base motion. Zhumell is the best bargain, and Dobs are you know... Dobs. Can't go wrong with either of these just depends on what you're looking for and how far into Astronomy you've gotten.

  • @genogeno1234

Love the Zhumells, I have owned all of them at one time. One thing you should be careful about is the laser collimation technique. Take the cheapest barlow you have in your collection and stick the collimator in it. You will see a ring in the window (albeit a lot larger due to the barlow and also out of focus) that you will want to center on the dot in the 45 degree window. This is "barlowed laser" technique which will take care of focuser slop and laser beam miscollimation. You will be spot on with your collimation. I would also recommend getting a cheap cheshire to check it.

  • @acasasc

These telescopes are really good, I barely have to collimate it after 3 or 4 trips to my dark site by car (I use some gravel road) and the optics are awesome for the price, I have easily outperformed 8" and 10" catadioptrics that cost four times as much

I am still trying to make up my mind on which scope to buy. I will have to transport it most of the time, so I am wondering how sensitive are these to the vibrations of driving, and especially down a rough gravel road. Will that be really hard on it and the alignment of the mirrors?

I recently purchased a Zhumell 8” Dobsonian and I cannot get it to focus. I have collimated the scope withe the laser and believe the problem may be with the focuser being blocked from it’s full movement. The focuser will come out to where the number 4 is displayed on the smaller scale. Is this the full length or should it come out further? Thanks.

    • @crusherfire1
      @crusherfire1 5 лет назад

This may be a bit late, but yes. The max the focuser can extend is to the number 4 displayed on the smaller scale. If you are having problems focusing, it can either be:
      1. Poor collimation (best way to test your collimation without tools is to center your scope on a bright star and go out of focus until you can see the web and secondary mirror inside the star. They should be centered. If not, you must recollimate. I would also check your laser for its collimation, and there are some good videos on youtube that explain how to collimate your laser)
      2. Pinched optics (the 3 clips that hold the mirror in its cell are tightened down too much and need to be loosened)
      3. Incorrect focal length (the 3 black knobs used for collimation can eventually push up the mirror in the tube, thus messing up the focal length. To fix this, tighten all 3 black knobs while you have the 3 white locking knobs loosened, and then rotate each black knob to loosen them 1 full turn until all are equally backed out. From there, you can start your collimation)
If none of these work, I would recommend talking to the company you purchased the scope from as it could be a problem with your mirror(s).

+aaron I found an Orion XT-8 almost brand new with a bunch of eyepieces in a Celestron case and upgraded finder scope locally for only $150. I almost felt like I stole it! Have not used it yet, but plan on spending plenty of time exploring the sky this winter. Thanks for asking!

Gage 2k5 wow what a nice deal. I have the same one in this video, it was around $400 about two years ago. I haven't used it much lately, but once it gets nice and cold out I cant wait.

I’d personally recommend highpointscientific.com. Right now you could get the z8 for 529 usd, and the z10 for about 729 usd. Keep in mind though you will either have to watch the video on how to assemble it or download the pdf on the website. It does not come with instructions. But there is also telescope.com and optcorp.com
