I only have one child, he is autistic nonverbal and I’ve been having the same struggle with myself over my sons communication. I could not do the pecs, I was overwhelmed, and were now working on signs only, and I’ve finally realized that I’m actually not a bad mom and I do way more for my son than some other autistic parents do, and while I don’t do a lot of functional play with my son, I do sensory play with him which still counts. It’s really hard. We have to remember that we’re not typical parents, we’re an autism family and it’s not comparable…
I love watching your videos because you keep it honest. I’ve been feeling completely exhausted between my stressful job and caring for my severely autistic daughter. Last week I had to leave work early because she got an eye infection and her school called me to get her asap. Long story short, after doctor appointment plus medication plus still having to work I literally felt like giving up. But somehow I find the strength to keep going.

You’re not the only one who over thinking things. I do all the time! I’m getting private speech, ot and a different ABA company. My son needs intensive therapy. He has the potential to succeed. But his current company has been not helpful really these past few months. I’ve been with this company for 5 years! I’m stressed, and just want a over night break! It’s been 3 years since I’ve had an overnight break. Feeling like you’re drowning and not doing anything for yourself is just crippling. If I lived closer I would totally would want to hang out!!!
I hope you can get a break soon! Mentally when I’m exhausted I’m so on edge I feel bad for the kiddos 😔 thanks for letting me know I’m not alone in this. Good luck with the new aba center! 💙
Take the time you need for family! We all have been there and understanding. Medical stuff with children is always overwhelming! Glad you are squeezing in time for yourself at the gym.
I can really relate! We've had a lot of doctor appointments for my son and both my kids are in therapy so I feel like I'm constantly on the go. In regards to PECS and AAC, PECS is not a prerequisite for AAC. Young children, like Sebs age, have been given AAC only have picked it up! It's like a new language, it takes time and exposure. ABA will often look for mastery in an area before moving on and that is one aspect I'm not a fan of. Just make sure the device is always available and model when you can. I know it can be a lot! Medical care is so hard for us because doctors don't really have much compassion and don't understand our sensory issues. They just think we are intentionally misbehaving.
I completely understand i have been in that rut and exactky what you said feeling like it is so much to do and I have been so overwhlemed I have not had the capactity to tackle any keep your head up you are doing awesome i always love your videos thank you for sharing!❤
I have to been feel overwhelmed son does not eat well and does not like school has level 1 Autism my daughter level 3 Autism she has a lot of l indigestion problems. :) understand a little a least the overwhelming thing. Some days not much time to myself to . :)
Most days it’s not too bad but then it can buildup to make me feel maxed out and with low energy 😆💙
Can you pls tell me what kind of tests are they doing for your ur son. I am on the same boat with my kids GI issues.
X ray to check for bowl obstruction, blood work,stool sample so far.
Im going to be making an update this week as there was some things that came up concerning.

No, he tolerates showers and hangs there by himself but I do all the work. I’ll be working on that with him soon with help with how to go about it with his aba team.
