  • We take a bus ride too the small town of Whittlesey….
Whittlesea or Whittlesey? Before the Fens were drained, Whittlesey sat on the edge of Whittlesey Mere. An island town, it was known as Whittle by the Sea - the wash coming in all the way from North East Anglia and surrounding it.
Whittlesey was significant for its brickyards, around which the former hamlet of King's Dyke was based for much of the 20th century, although only one now remains, following the closure of the Saxon brickworks in 2011.
Whittlesea Railway Station serves the town of Whittlesey and is the first Fenland station along the Hereward Line. It is located 5.5 miles from Peterborough and has direct services to Ipswich, Birmingham, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
    THE EMPORIUM
Was built in 1914 as a cinema and over the years it’s been an indoor bowling alley, supermarket and there is a gentleman’s club upstairs.
The emporium is now an indoor market and people can bring there items they want to sell and you can pay for your own spot inside the building.
