- A look at the approval process of each Bentley Mulsanne prior to sale. The detailed checklists which each Mulsanne must pass prior to departing the Crewe factory in England.
This series has been most informative and interesting. It's nice to see behind the scenes and the people that contribute to making one of the best luxury vehicles on earth. Really quite an amazing process. It's not all sideways action and loud screaming exhaust.
hey its boring process.. but im boring and i love processes so I enjoyed it very much, especially as its real people talking about it not some slick 100kpa smooth talking exec who spends less than 1% of his career on the factory floor. Also the slow pace of editing and hd finally came together and the cars looked great! Was a hard call for the interviewer as it was ultimately a simple but laborious subject, so he just let the lassie speak, nothing wrong with that.
My heart jumped up in my throat at 03:30. That car is a thing of beauty. They all are really, but that particular deep black, with the blacked out windows, and chrome in all the right places... wow.
So basically they check it, check it again, check it a third, fourth, and fifth time, and then sell the car. I normally enjoy these Bentley videos but this one was boring as all get out.
This is INSIDE BENTLEY. This is nothing about being fun, interesting, boring or noisy. It's about how they make Bentleys.
If you don't understand this, you are missing the point of those videos.
Adnane Rabah I found it very interesting.
laservader1 To me, it was more than that : it was instructive. :-)
Adnane Rabah This isnt how they make them, this is the assembly line. I have not heard one engineer or designer talk about the car yet.
***** Right make and assemble are two different things. But we get the point of what they are implying.
Wow! Very impressive! If only every company was that particular about their product.
Bentley's attention to detail and equal precision for each and every car is one of the most admirable qualities in their automobile production line.
Great video again. It's such a privilege to get this type of look at so many legendary automakers.
This is stunning, the attention to detail at the end & good to see the beautiful final product. Would've been good to see it being delivered and received by a client.
This should be very informative about why quality cost. Some people always go on about why their car is better because it has the same performance as another car costing 2 or 3 times as much. Maybe they now know why. The answer is quality always cost extra.
Would be awesome to see them test a VW Golf with their quality requirements, just to see what they would improve/change! :D
Everything is so shiny.... I'm being hypnotized
This came up in my subs right after a Vice video on Bolivian children working in dark, dirty unsafe mines. The contrast couldn't be more stark.
My dad has always wanted a Bentley but cannot afford one.....It's my dream to make enough money to buy him a brand new Bentley every father deserves their dream car.
Not just every father. EVERYONE deserves their dream car :)
I would be down to live in that word haha
You can buy a used low mileage Bentley for under $30 k
fantastic to see the lengths at which they go to confirm in their quality control program! If only more auto manufacturers were this prudent, there would certainly be fewer dissatisfied customers
Stop hating, if you don't approve just don't watch it. /INSIDE is one of the best series /DRIVE has ever made. Keep it going!
Not sure why I'm watching this when I'll never buy one lol..
such a gorgeous car. If i could own only 1 car, it would probably be the Mulsanne.
That horn scared the shit out of that lady!
PLZ we need an another series of /INSIDE for an another luxury name in the car world .. I did enjoy this series & I look for more >>> to be honest it was better than some documentary car shows ;) thank u
So it takes longer to inspect than to build. That's pretty cool.
I love this Inside series. Hope you guys come out with even more exotic car manufactures in this series
Many exotic car manufacturers are so stringent with their technology copyrights, that cameras (other than security needs) arent even allowed on the premise.
I'd also like a wrapped Mulsanne for Christmas...
this guy gets under my skin..his lack of asking question's the main thing..he seems so cold
I completely agree with you, his hands in pants attitude is just so painfully uninteresting
Would it shock you if I told you that HE is the creator of /DRIVE (JF Musial), because I just found that out
How did he manage to do that??
True true, I better get started right away
*****
JF may not be the best host that /Drive has, but he is the force behind the channel. Without JF, /Drive would fall flat. So you're right, maybe he isn't the best on camera, but he rules behind it. And as for "How did he manage to do that??", he was the producer of Fast Lane Daily for quite a few years.
So I have read on Wikipedia
Not too sure as to that Drive would fail without him, someone else would probably fill the vacuum, but it doesn't matter
I would just wish to see someone else do these kinds of videos
I actually enjoy this guy over the other Driver personnel. He listens instead of interrupting and trying to hard. I like watching these from an educational standpoint, I don't need infotainment like Top Gear viewers.
Some nice color
Combinations featured here. The white interiors especially are beautiful and decadent. I've always been a Bentley fan.
AMAZING! Love it, the attention to detail is outstanding. God I want a Bentley!! Nice one JF Musial great /INSIDE series.
My compliments on this series. I was skeptical after watching the trailer, but it's been very detailed nevertheless. Good job Drive team!
Thanks for looking after my FS
Too bad that most people who own these things couldn't give two shits about the painstaking amount of labor that went into the car, the only thing that matters is the prestige that comes with the pricetag.
nice generalisations there
murmaider2 That's not true at all.
Instead of criticizing the series, be sure to know that if:
1) your numbers come up on a lottery
2) you inheret vast sums if money (can you really appreciate quality without putting in the effort to pay for it?)
3) you build your business and reap the rewards
4) or become a home horticultualist
....you will know that YOUR Bentley will be amazing when it turns up. Boring? I say you are boring if you can't appreciate quality content.
Fast food restaurants sell their burger wrapped also. Does that mean they check the quality 5 times??
What is Debra rambling about?...
Beautiful, very much enjoying these videos.
God i love the mulsanne... Hope to order one one day
It takes longer to check the car then it takes to build it. That's dedication.
"It takes longer to inspect the car than to build one." Seemed as though that was a question also it seemed as though the inspector dodged the question. I think they may be inspecting multiple cars at once to make up for the amount of cars they build in the course of an inspection.
that white mulsanne with the sporty rims was shiny & class
few lucky people, most manufacturers don't care about that much attention to detail, speed and production efficiency matters :p
When you live next to this factory as i do, bentleys are an everyday thing.
Me too mate! Nantwich (Y)
Don't know why everyone is hating, I like these vids...
Because, always, haters are gonna hate.
1-2 weeks of QC, which is longer than the production process. Seems like the production process could use some improvement from a quality perspective, to reduce the incredibly costly continuous rework process.
So basically it take twice as long to go through the quality control process than it does to build!.
Good Morning, I just fan face of the channel, which are worth watch videos that has subtitle, remember your viewers who do not speak English (ps: google tradutor )
Thankful.
When did they fix the "Inside Bensley" to "Inside Bentley"? I kept skipping the intro in the other episodes, until I noticed it just now.
Great work. Now stop by Caterham before you come home
It's all very nice and rich, but they still brake down, I first hand seen 3 Bentleys on the side of the road!
Such attention to detail only to be be repainted to candle apple green with some 24" rims
Do you need such a lengthy quality control measures for being a perfectionist? or having a terrible manufacturing output?
2:20
Tesla: Write that down!?!
Thumbs up for hindy
/Drive: any idea how long this particular quality control process takes for the Continental line? I would assume less, but just curious if you found out. Thanks.
What's the name of the song from the beginning and the end?
is it just me or does the mulsanne have a smiley face in the front? The grill is a big nose. The lights are the eyes and dimples. The bottom grill is the smile.
1-2 weeks in quality control ... That means there are issues with the manufacturing process
Do you really believe that an S class, or a 7-series, or an LS could take a week or two going back and forth in quality checks? All what I mentioned have the same or almost the same fit and finish.
Wael Al-Rihawi Really doubt Mercedes goes out and drives every S class for testing. They may drive a couple here and there to check for consistency.
LSG Drizzt If every F150 is driven on a specially designed course to pass quality control then I am sure it is going to be the same for the S class. Moreover, I don't want my new car to be driven for 40min!
ultrabaiter That is what I meant with my comment! You are paying for the badge and rarity; otherwise, it is almost the same product class.
Wael Al-Rihawi "...almost the same product class." Key word is, "almost." They are not the same product. A Bentley has better quality than a S class.
anyone know the music at the end of the video?
How do they sell it new with 0 miles on it if they give it a 40 minute test drive?
Once the car is signed off for final sell as they say they could just set the counter to 0 so it just marks driver miles. Or they could sell a 0 mile car with a few miles that correspond to the manufacturing process. Any "new" car can have a couple of dozen miles on it corresponding to the manufacturing and delivering process without impacting its value.
Can I ask one question if you pick up a stone chip on the test drive what happens
They fix it?
lol the car beeping its horn in the background while she's talking
I would love to have one wrapped all the time and drive it that way
Wow, that lady in the beginning talks in circles.
I do this to my normal car, check, check check, check again, then check a final time haha
got it!
Worth buying it!!
Got it got it got it got it
Why at the very end of this fill we see that headlights are not covered?
I presume it needs to be driven, also why the drivers door is not covered
That doesn't make any sense if windows are covered
darek4488 The cars will need to be driven on to and off of transporters, sometimes at night, hence the door, parts of the windows and headlamps are left open.
she talked for almost a minute and a half at the star and literally said nothing.
When I look at cars like Bentley, I ask myself, "How many of these cars that are built get sold rather than being left as displays in dealership showrooms for months at a time?"
They're all built to order. So all of them.
*****
That pretty much explains it.
DZone Motorsport TV Almost none.
Thats what I call quality
They spend less time building the car right and waste huge amounts of time fixed their mistakes
Jordan Evans "Waste"...what? I think they know a bit more than you do about building fine luxury automobiles.
Bentley Luxury cars , but still notice a henry the hoover XD
Attention to detail, sure, where are her gloves? That's one detail that she overlooked.
I know i'm being petty, but Its a Bentley.
This segment is the most uninspiring thing /Drive has put out to date. I know it's free programming and that you've got to pay the bills, but this advertising packaged as a 'how-its-made' piece, with the awful intro, doesn't do the rest of the channel justice.
Explains the price
So basically you could say their medieval production prevents them from reaching the quality the very same production is supposed achieve! If I bought a Bentley before seeing this I would feel cheated...
Two weeks of quality control?
There is something to be said about that...
Amazing video and amazing series, although that ending was VERY anticlimactic. Left a lot to be desired.
She said flags a lot.
and if they have guys making the stuff that aren't competent to flag it themselves what does that say??
Potential career, test driving Bently's.
It doesnt gets better than Bentley Mulsanne...
"Attention to detail" - Almost rips the break peddle off in the intro.
Would have been great if she just lost her S and started screaming to shut those damn bloody horns up at the end... oh well. Maybe in the blooper reel.
I wonder how inexpensively Toyota could make these cars with exactly the same quality.
With zero heritage and soul.
proababy about $110,000-$150,000. the Hyundai eqquis and Kia K900 are $70,000+ and it's still no where near as nice as this. but still 110-150k is 1/3 of the cost. but then you'd have to go around saying you drive a Toyota, and that's something I would never do
is it me or this factory has a lot of problems? it takes 2 weeks to check and repare one car?
The Conti GT won't have anyway near as long being checked because the body panels are machine made. When you are hand crafting each piece, it takes longer to check and get absolutely perfect.
Koenigsegg was so much better
It's not better, it's just different. And why is it better in your opinion? Because they're faster?
omfgwtfbbq90 It is better because it's MY opinion. Christian von Koenigsegg was very giving and detailed in the processes, allowing greater detailed shots of the car and how/why they actually made it. The speed of the car has nothing to do with it.
This is worse than "How It's Made"
Checks for quality but leaves stickers on tires- Bentley logic
these bentley vids just don't have the same charm or attraction that the Koenigsegg videos had. I suspect it's to do with the car, the quality is still great but the factory (namely the people in it) seem like they're there for a job, not a passion like Christian Von Koenigsegg
Koenigsegg has cutting edge internal combustion engineering, custom electronics, an ex fighter squadron base factory and test track and a hypercar that can take full input steering at full throttle. And the boss of the much smaller company to take Drive through the process. Yes, it was a better series but not because of Drive, because Koenigsegg is more interesting than a Bentley. A segg costs as much as how many Mulsannes? Driving a Mulsanne every day is probably more relaxing and versatile though. The Pagani series was also interesting. Building a hypercar like Pagani or Koenigsegg is a more intimate process. The videos reflect this. I still find the Bentley series interesting despite this. It's cool to see car manufacturing done right.
I wonder how many of those employees can afford to buy one of what they build?
Why does that matter? People build things they can't afford all over the world; houses, trains, planes, spacecraft, ships, skyscrapers, heavy machinery. Should Boeing and Airbus only employ billionaires on their shop floors? You don't get a job based on your ability to afford what you build, all that matters is whether you can do it.
Those are made by children and they shouldnt have cell phones anyway.
keensweep
There is so much wrong in this whole discussion.....holy fuck O.o
every worker in a car company deserves to have a car they build.... I hope car company give them a plan to have it...
My mates dad is production line manager and they get 18 days a year to take them home. He earns 36k.
I HAD TO DO THIS FOR HOMEWORK YOU BASTARDS!
Loving the inside Bentley episodes, however I have to agree, the interviewer is shocking.
Great vid, horrible guy. Hands out of your pocket when talking to a lady, stop saying "got it" every 3 sec and "ok".
How about asking some questions?
I always enjoyed "behind the scenes" vids and this one is great!!!
Tweak the guy a little bit and do more vids like this, please.
Hahahaha hahahaha
Watch to the disaster at 5:10. (the light is wavered). It is such a kid toy.
Actually it's an effect from filming camera.
Read more, and blow shit up less, might learn something useful.
Debra Harris(on) Cars
Audi bags the cars the same way. I've seen them come through with the bag almost black from the road dirt and grime. You don't see GM, Ford, or Chrysler do that, except only their high end corvettes, Cadillacs, Maybe Lincoln and Shelbys and Vipers. But 1 week to build and 2 weeks for inspections, now that's top end. If you want to see something really stupid Motor Trend has a comparison test between a Bentley and Rolls-Royce and You Tube where they do a 1/4-mile run and a slalom test. Really dumb.
They also transport them differently, we have Bentleys delivered here one per truck and they're totally enclosed with a hydraulic lift to get them in and out so there is no way they get dirty or damaged during transport.
minnsminns We have 1 or 2 Bentleys in town. They're owned by the Oland Family who own Moosehead Breweries. I see them around every once in awhile.
We have enough demand for them here that there's a Bentley dealership 2.0 miles from my house.
minnsminns I think the closest dealer to Saint Jon, NB is in Montreal, Que.
Wow. Just wow.
Fucking Jay Leno in the back ... :P
Is it actually?
v11o Idk, but he doesn't have the same outfit... who knows
Let me guess,- Musial got it...
No shit Sherlock I thought they would just leave it I want to know the process. Because I would not want to buy a Bentley with a stone chip repair.
being an interviewer you cant keep your hands in your jeans! as well as wearing jeans being invited to Bentley!
Hand in pocket...come on man.
Nana
id lose my paycheck in tires :D
